Shenmue 3 publisher says PC coming to new funding campaign in "the near future"

PCGamer:
Supplementary crowdfunding campaigns launched in the wake of successful Kickstarters are neither new nor all that unusual. At least a few of the games I've backed over the years have offered one, and the biggest crowdfunding success story of all time, Star Citizen, made the vast majority of its money after the Kickstarter was over. What makes the Shenmue 3 "Slacker Backer" campaign that launched last week unusual is the absence of the PC version of the game in any of its reward tiers.

The story is too old to be commented.

Very shady that they would rewrite the details after it's successfully received backing. It's not just them though, Japan has been producing such bad reputation with the pc community.

I'm just going to say as an indie developer working on my own little project. From my perspective, IF i list a platform be it lead or as part of a stretch goal and the funding is successful; then it is my business duty to honor my backers, with their purchased incentives.

Now, you can of course have good reason for delays when polishing data. I would just remember that backers are waiting and expecting reasons to be valid upon arrival. There are no excuses when you agree to do something and it becomes successful.

I think they specifically mentioned that the PC prizes will be coming soon. They said that they just have to work out the details. They reminded everyone that in the beginning the same thing happened for the PS4 physical copy prize.

I think your comment is a bit premature. If they end up excluding PC then of course i would agree with you. But as of right now the article specifically says, they are working out the details with the parties involved regarding the PC version. Nothing shady here. Not yet.

I'll just wait for the final release and pay $60 when it's a full game.....for console.

The funding of Shenmue 3 has been very shady.

Two-Face1182d ago

Indeed. I'm a huge fan of both Shenmue games, but I'm glad that I didn't back them on Kickstarter. I will gladly pay full price if the game is good when released, but I have my doubts that it will be the game everyone wants it to be.

it was always announced as a ps4/pc game. we will find out soon enough if they are true to their word but this is one of the issues with crowdfunding projects. sometimes the game itself isn't what was promised.

sony should have just secured the title and made the whole thing more easier.

Spotie1182d ago

More easier, huh?

Hey, moldy, got a question for ya:

What has this game failed to deliver on? How is it not what was promised?

How could Sony have secured it if their monetary involvement wasn't a sure thing until after the kickstarter was successful? How could they have done so if their involvement was limited from the start by the series creator?

Why don't you find a game you're actually interested in to comment about, rather than spreading constant negativity about a game you obviously don't care for? As you'd tell me, your obsession with making everything about this game look bad is unhealthy.

gangsta_red1181d ago

Why do you always have questions but never answers? Especially when it comes to this game.

How come Sony funds indie titles and other games through their pub fund, games that are new and have no brand recognition but not this game that supposedly has this huge legendary following, enough to have the creator come out on stage during a Sony E3 conference?

And please provide evidence of the creator purposely limiting Sony's involvement especially since it was known from the beginning this would be on PS4 and PC.

iceman061181d ago

If that was the case, then 2 things would have happened. One, there would have been guarantee that the game would be made. (Sony has even said that itself) It was a risky proposition to begin with. Two, there probably wouldn't have been a PC version at all.

Yu wanted this to be a fan service project. He wanted fans of the game to be able to fund a vision for the continuation of this vision. This is still the idea. Now, he is trying to lock down what prizes to offer to the PC side of things. That's it. Nothing else has changed.

@Spotie,
"What has this game failed to deliver on? How is it not what was promised?"

where did i say it failed at anything? i said a ps4 and pc version was promised.

"How could Sony have secured it if their monetary involvement wasn't a sure thing until after the kickstarter was successful?"

by greenlighting it from the beginning like they have done with many other games. they also have a program called pub funding that helps studios and in return sony gets exclusive rights (timed or full)

"How could they have done so if their involvement was limited from the start by the series creator?"

i don't believe that for a second. he wants his game made, why would he turn down sony to fund it?

"Why don't you find a game you're actually interested in to comment about, rather than spreading constant negativity about a game you obviously don't care for? As you'd tell me, your obsession with making everything about this game look bad is unhealthy."

give it a rest. all i said was to temper expectations. where did i say this game is bad? where did i say this game will fail?

now do the courtesy to reply instead of your constant drive by comments.

People demanded the Paypal option. A lot of misinformed persons and gaming websites are spreading false news that Ys Net is greedy, shady etc.

S2Killinit1182d ago

Let them, most of them are fanboys who are upset that its not coming to their preferred console, they wont support Shenmue anyway.

Ristul1182d ago (Edited 1182d ago )

It's just sad that what was supposed to be this great return of the Shenmue series with diehard fans from the Dreamcast era gets this poor and unfair coverage. People have begged for the return of this game for over a decade, this game would not exist without those people. Haters will hate, simple as that.

ScorpiusX1182d ago

That's a lie am waiting and donated for the PC version.
