Why Bioshock Is The Greatest Game Series

For most gamers (including myself) games are a way out, an escape from reality, a hobby to pass the time. Where some play football or go down the local, gaming is a medium for which we spend our hard time to beat that next boss, socialise with our friends killing others or just kick back and enjoy casual game time. Bioshock is much.more than that for me.

Bioshock is amazing but as a series, I don't know. I personally didn't like that Infinite was more of a linear FPS than the open exploration of the original. I do venture to say Bioshock 2 was a good game but Rapture was such an incredible setting.

Laughed so hard a tear rolled down my cheek.

Agreed. Bioshock as a series is FARRRRRR from the best, its not even in my top 10 as the "best" as it has a bad entry ie Bioshock 2. "best" to be is all entries being amazing, only a very small select few really deserve that title and Bioshock unfortunately isn't one of em.

darren_poolies1180d ago

Bioshock 2 is no where near "bad". I personally liked it more than one.

_-EDMIX-_1180d ago

just when I thought I couldn't laugh any harder....

UnfathomableOne1180d ago

Why didn't you mention Infinite? If you don't like Bioshock 2 then you surely thought Infinite was a disaster. It's practically worse in every single way.

fanboysmackdown1180d ago

Bioshock 2 was a very good game, not as good as the first but still an excellent title. You speak for everyone around here do you? If you didn't like, great, your opinion of it really means squat.

_-EDMIX-_1180d ago

@icheer- "You speak for everyone around here do you? If you didn't like, great, your opinion of it really means squat"

Could that not be the same for anyone's post? I mean...do you not get that the entire concept is subjective? What exactly did you expect when the title of the article was "Why Bioshock Is The Greatest Game Series" and not why I "think" Bioshock is .... lol.

Welcome to the interwebs. lol

B2 had the best combat in the series. Spent so much time setting up rooms for big daddies. A few years later I'm in a shooting gallery opening portals of....water while some worthless bag is tossing me coins...and it's so depressing how bad that game's gameplay was compared to the other games as well as the reveal gameplay.

No chance. The Mass Effect series is way better than Bioshock.

Summons751180d ago

The first game and the second started to slip up....but it complete falls off the list when you add in ME3...

_-EDMIX-_1180d ago

Same area, Both have bad entries.

Mass Effect 1 is far from a great game, its "good", but doesn't hold a candle to 2 and Mass Effect 1 just feels so unfinshed with so many ideas left undone.

Mass Effect 2 stops trying to be something its not and focuses on being a 3rd person shooter as suppose to forcing the RPG concept. Mass Effect 3 I always feel is lessor then Mass Effect 2.

Gatsu1180d ago (Edited 1180d ago )

I agree, even though the ME3 ending wasn't quite what I hoped for. But still they're all amazing with great characters and I love scifi. ME2 still stands as one of the best games I've ever played.

For me it would be maybe MGS or Final Fantasy, but it's hard to choose really what series is the best, because I love so many.

ArchangelMike1180d ago

I'm not saying Mass Effect is the best game series, I;m just saying I think it's better that the Bioshock series, that's all.

SolidGear31180d ago

I love both the BioShock and Mass Effect series though :(

ArchangelMike1180d ago

Exactly, I love them both. But for me MAss Effect just had more... everything!

Bioshock was an amazing game with a epic story... Bioshock 2 improved some gameplay mechanics but the story wasn't all that.. Infinite was infinitely bad for a bioshock game...

JamesBroski1180d ago

My thoughts exactly. Infinite was a really good game on itself, but it fell short to the original.

fanboysmackdown1180d ago

Agreed....I didn't care for Infinite and really enjoyed the first two and Bioshock 1 is still one of my all time faves.

The first Bioshock was an amazing experience with a horrible final act, the second Bioshock was solid from start to finish and arguably better than the first in some areas, but was also comparatively unmemorable.

Then there's Infinite: beautiful art direction and soundtrack, beautiful concept, but everything else about it is an outright failure.

If you haven't yet watched this critique, you may want to: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I consider Infinite one of the most disappointing games ever. Wish it wasn't so.

darren_poolies1180d ago

This is also very good if you ever get a chance to watch it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc15Kg fNJsw

But, although I agree with some points. I actually loved Bioshock Infinite but wasn't a fan of the first. Each to their own I guess :)

I feel at home in rapture..

Bioshock is timeless..

I can return as many times as I like and it feels brand new, still.
