Square Enix CEO says PS4 and Xbox One have given consumers 'more confidence'

Flashback to 2013 and 2012, before the PS4 and Xbox One had been released or even announced, and you will find the common message among industry pundits that consoles were a dying breed. Console sales of a generation that was over six years old were declining and not showing signs of improving, but then things changed: Enter the PS4 and Xbox One.

I agree consoles are NOT a dying breed.

RuleNumber51161d ago

Totally agree. Always resented the doomsday talk that existed back in 2012 and 2013. Consoles are alive and well!

Frostbite Technical Director did say PS3 CELL retarded last gen. Then X86 came and saved console gaming, everything got a lot better.

A processor had nothing to do with sales, last gen lasted too long that's why sales got stagnant

Yet PS and Xbox fans always wage war against each other whereas PC fans just sit back with a bag of popcorn and watch them kill each other.

Not only they insult each other over AMD and Nvidia, but they hate on console gamers.

Im shock, they mention xbox, cause xbox does not make them money anywhere beside some NA territory. so happy bloodborne dlc in nov 24

Yeah SE makes very little from Xbox but he was just speaking generally about the industry, both together as a whole. The last gen lasted too long and when PS4 & XBONE came out, people were really ready for a new system.

Xbox is the best supported console ever. Cant go wrong. MS' is on their game. Kudos.

Justiceleague1161d ago

How about just consoles period. But there's a reason why you have one bubble.

You cant say that right after Sony's TGS conference. Or do Japanese games still not count?

Actually that title goes to the Ps2

You can say that with a straight face after how barren this whole damn year has been?

gangsta_red1160d ago (Edited 1160d ago )

Barren how? Are you saying there hasn't been any games for the Xbox One? I could have sworn I told you that you were a main culprit that always says there's no games for Xbox and your reply was, "it's in response to xbox fanboys who say there's no games for PS4.".

But reading Martin's comment I don't see that, so why is it you feel the need to constantly bash the Xbox and here claim it's barren?

On Topic:
It's great to see that both these consoles are doing well especially with the rise of mobile devices and mobile gaming. I remember not too long ago there were articles about mobile being a huge "threat" to consoles.

But seeing these sales and game sales it's obvious that isn't true.

magiciandude1160d ago (Edited 1160d ago )

Whole year? So you mean the holidays and the early months of the year don't count?

Square-Enix CEO is right on the money though. Now that this generation is heating up, I think Xbox One and PS4 has given developers more confidence as well.
