Hardcore Gamer: All the games we used to squint at on our tiny smartphone screens and tablets will now be able to stream through Apple’s little black box, but will this Wii inspired apple hybrid be anything like console gaming?
People are bound to upgrade to smart tv's. When they do products like Apple TV and chrome cast just become useless. Now a days everything does everything. Consoles do games, movies, music etc. so as a smart tv, console owner this isn't impressive what so ever.
Not really... smart tv's not only have horrid software backing them, but there's no real upgrade cycle. Smart TVs are honestly a waste of time and resources for the companies producing them.
How are smart tv's a waste of time?? They honestly do everything that products like Apple TV does. My LG is wonderful and the UI is crafted so well that it's easy to interact with. I'm able to watch Netflix, Hulu, add my server and play all my media on it without needing any products attached to it. Smart tv's are the next upgrade especially seeing how that's what the companies are going for. What do you mean there's no upgrade cycle?? There sure is since every yr that passes these products have to be capable of doing more and more.
Apple TV in JP will dominate Xbox ONE in JP though sadly:/
Truth hurts though.
Obviously. You go into the console market or you don't. What you shouldn't do is hover between two different audiences. I wouldn't even call this a console....just like the Steam Machines and even the OUYA
nobody is calling it a console except for weird media stories like this one. not even apple. the games capability is just a bullet point in the features list.
i don't think its trying to. its not even the same class of device. its a media streamer that can play games.... not a console that can stream media. its basically an iPhone for your tv... and if you are like me and have macs and iPhones and iPads, its handy to have one because you already have the ecosystem set up and it has useful features, apps and functionality etc... if it plays games, thats just a perk. i still have a ps4 and x1 for proper, more capable games and even with an appleTV (or 2) i don't see them directly competing, if at all. i don't think console owners should care or even indulge this type of fire starting.
Well said. I don't need/want it personally but I like the mention of the ecosystem. I try to avoid websites that say that such in such is, "the future", "will replace blah blah blah", "is a <blank> killer". They are annoying, misleading, and unethical.
if it has more powerful hardware then yes it does. give it 1080p 60fps with next gen graphics then games like cod & bf would be amazing to play on it. apple is a very popular platform so it certainly has the potential in future.
Something like this works for me , as I have an apple account with 100's of dollars sunk into it . But I won't buy a new iPad as there too expensive to keep replacing the damn things . I have broken mine and it costs more to fix the piece of crap than to buy a new one .
This is another failure for Apple in this space. They shouldn't have done it.
