Divinity: Original Sin II Interview with Swen Vincke – PAX Prime 2015

New Gamer Nation was quite excited to get their hands on a demo of the newly Kickstarted sequel by Larian Studios at PAX Prime this year. Larian Studios CEO Doesn't See GenAI Replacing Devs; Wants To Use It For NPC Dialogue

Larian Studios' CEO Swen Vincke recently appeared in an interview and clarified that he does not see GenAI as a replacement for developers.

If you're hiring less writers to write the dialogue that AI writes instead...isn't that replacing writers?

bartfart25d ago

Exactly he doesn't see it replacing devs... Immediately mentions replacing writers hahaha

It also means the same amount of writers can now produce more dialogues with the same amount of budgets, game development doesn't have infinite budget, AI when used correctly, can help generate some dialogues, and then still need writers to have another pass through to make sure those make sense in the game world.

Not really, its a different role. Now you're scripting ai on how they should respond, keywords, language, etc

If anything, you'll need to be a good script writer to direct ai npcs.

Its a new field for them!

anast25d ago

They'll out outsource that job.

anast25d ago

This is the thing. First AI will be used to get rid of all the low level repetitive task and as it evolves it will be used to get rid of more people.
