Outside of PS3, Blu-ray Uptake Struggles

Edge Reports: "An abstract for the research brief "Blu-ray: Consumer Survey Results" called the PS3 "a bright spot" in the Blu-ray picture.

"While you might think gamers purchase fewer movie discs than others, we didn't see any significant evidence of that in our results," said ABI principle analyst Steve Wilson. "PS3 console shipments will go a long way to help bring down manufacturing costs and drive down Blu-ray player prices."

Outside of PS3, however, consumer adoption of Blu-ray players is slower than the industry would like, ABI said."

But, the general public is learning about it more and more. (when I talk to people atleast) This Xmas should be the season for Bluray to really make it`s push, cause HDTVs are going to be the "thing" this year.

O_o...so it's slower than they would like but still a far better adoption than DVD? I fail to see the problem here.

Didn't the PS2 do the same thing for the DVD where more people were actually buying more PS2's than standalone DVD players in the beginning? Correct me if my memory is wrong on that one, but I remember the PS2 being kinda pivotal in DVD adoption.

Blu-ray is win-win for the PS3. People who want a Blu-ray player buy a PS3 since it's future proof, they also buy a shiit load of movies and they also buy some games. People who want a PS3 for games buy loads of games and they also buy Blu-ray movies.
