Video games still fighting for respect

Niagra Gazette writes: "The video game industry makes more money than the movie industry. "Grand Theft Auto IV" made more than $500 million in its first week of release earlier this year, which makes the recent record-breaking opening week of "The Dark Knight," checking in at more than $200 million, seem rather tame in comparison.

Sure, video games go for $50-60 a pop while movie tickets aren't nearly that expensive (yet), but the numbers still speak loudly. And considering the current state of the record industry, it can be argued that the growing video game industry is the healthiest entertainment business around.

Yet video games get little to no respect in the mainstream media. I suspect there are two main reasons for this lack of coverage."
