Time Magazine released a photo Thursday of the cover for the new issue, and it’s about VR. But what it is depicting is pretty stupid and not at all what VR is really about.
If VR is so fragile that it can be doomed by one photo, then VR was never going to succeed anyway...
Why is this [email protected] even posted here? What sort of idiot approves stories like this? Who else looked at that picture and thought VR is doomed other than the guy writing this stupid article?
According to your profile, you've been a contributor for over a year. This is N4G... Have you learned nothing?!?
Yea, a photo seen by the majority of Americans which will be there first impression of VR..... I dont think it will ruin VR but it makes a bad sterotype for gamers using it.
No majority of Americans reads Time, first of all. Unless you've got some study or survey that proves otherwise, that's just you making something up. And it's FAR from our first impression of VR. Media depictions cover most people too young to know any better; the rest of us can probably remember one venture or another from the 80s or 90s. Time may be somewhat influential, but there's little chance it can generate a stereotype all on its own, and just from one image.
From my experience that photo is pretty accurate. But then again who cares how stupid you look. #isurvivedkinect1.0
That picture is the next big meme.
Absolutely! In fact, I'm going to post it on my FB wall with some sort of quirky, anti-society 1800's transcendentalism quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson or James Fenimore Cooper!
Time magazine is a joke. Always has been, always will be. They are part of the oligarchy and shouldn't be taken seriously. Guess who was their Time Man of the Year in the 30's. ADOLF HITLER. Look around at some of the other morons and tyrants they've made 'Man of the Year'. Stalin, Khrushchev, Queen Elizabeth II, even Ayatollah Khomeini. One year they even made the green fascism of the oligarchy it's man of the year...Endangered Earth Planet of the Year. Let's see who else...Henry Kissinger, King Faisal, Yuri Andropov, Ted Turner, Newt Gingrich, Ken Starr, Rudy Guiliani, George W. Bush...no really...and they did it TWICE just like Nixon, George H.W. Bush, Obama (twice), Bernanke, Mark Suckerberg, even the green fascist captured Pope Francis. Even to pump up the illegal and idiotic Iraq invasion they had the U.S. Soldier. If it's in time, you can bet your butt it's skewed enough to not be reality. They put a few good ones in to make it look not completely rigged, and then put in their propaganda pieces in subsequent years. Time magazine, rewriting history since it was formed. It's propaganda. If you read it, don't. Ditch it. It makes you dumber. British Empire propaganda. So, now they want people to believe VR is for 'nerds'. Masters of propaganda, unless you realize what they are ALL ABOUT. ...and yes you can open up propaganda arms all over the planet to do your bidding.
You seem to have some valid concerns but also serious issues...
To be fair their "man of the year" feature never meant the person was somehow noble. Only that they had the biggest impact that year (good or bad)
I'm going to be a Day-1 Oculus buyer! With that said, I love the picture! I find it hilarious and absolutely realistic!!! This is really what a lot of people are going to look like... in their bedroom or grandma's basement.
Hey Palmer... Don't look now but someone's stolen your shoes. One of the many pitfalls of VR. Shoe nabbing.
Lol it probably helped given that most gamers don't read time so the casual gamer or "old person" might think to themselves vr is like an escape lol.
Personally, I don't think it has doomed VR gaming, but it does appear to reinforce some of the negative stereotyping surrounding gaming with the 'what is this fat kid doing, nerd LOL, waste of time' image.
