New Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Trailer

It's the second day of Gamescom and with it comes a new trailer for one of the most anticipated games of 2015 Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The trailer shows new scenes, areas, story elements and later on the day we'll see a gameplay trailer as well.

Konami can try as hard as they like, but everyone knows this is Kojima and his Team's game, it'll never be Konami's and without Hideo they'll never make anything as great as this is going to be!!!!

It was just weird seeing the Konami logo at the end of the trailer. It's like they're trolling us now.

But... that trailer looks absolutely phenomenal! I still can't get used to Keifer's voice - even after hours of playing Ground Zeroes. That aside though, I so cannot wait for this game.

Agreed, Konami are disgusting, how they treat their staff, like they're living in some 3rd world country, with no Human Rights and they're trying to take recognition for this game coming into existence, when every gamer that actually has gaming in their blood knows it's only happening because of Kojima and his Team.

Kojima will take that spirit with him and he'll be hired in an instant to manage whatever studio he wants, any publisher worth their salt will give him the resources needed to make his next masterpiece or he'll just build his own studio, under his own ownership and it'll be his outright, the way it should be.

I can't wait for MG5, I have no bones about buying it, because it's Kojima and his Team's game, but after this I'll never buy another Konami game unless they change their ways.

The place on which I pre ordered this game took my money over a month ago. It makes the wait just that little bit harder. But it did only cost me £34.85 and they always dispatch games on Friday which are released on the next Tuesday so usually have the games a few days early. Which is nice.

I really want this game after playing ground zeroes but I haven't played any of the other games. I heard this was a prequel. If so would I understand the story?

I think that there will be lots of elements related to the other iterations of the saga.

I really recommend you to play the other ones in order to get the full image.

If you can't do so, at least watch some videos on YouTube, that are made like movies with cutscenes and the most important moments of gameplay,and which summarize each entry of the saga.

The full MGS timeline with this game would be (in chronological order)

MGS3
MGS: Peace Walker
MGS: Ground Zeroes
MGS: The Phantom Pain
MGS1
MGS2
MGS4

The original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 will slot in there somewhere, I believe between MGS: The Phanton Pain and MGS1 but I haven't played them so not 100% sure. I believe they follow the story of Big Boss (main character from MGS3-MGS:TPP).

Tbh, you would probably understand part of the story, as it is quite early in the MGS universe. I would advise at least playing MGS:Ground Zeroes as it is effectively the 1st level to MGS:The Phantom Pain. If you can play MGS: Peace Walker you will understand the Mother Base concept as well (as that was the first game to have fulton recoveries, recruiting soldiers to your base to improve your weaponry etc. It is in the MGS:HD Collection on PS3, should be able to pick it up pretty cheaply now if you have a PS3) but personally I would say you should be ok without it.

I think the 40min gameplay video was jaw droppingly good, this trailer was great but not as good as that.

Although, was there another Psycho Mantis-esque character in there? Looked like he had a soldier hovering in front of him...
