Xbox briefing @ Gamescom 2015 - Was it any good?

Neil writes "Gamescom 2015 kicked off in style with Xbox taking to the stage to bring us the latest news, videos and demos covering Microsoft's most powerful console. But did Phil Spencer and friends bring us what we wanted, or have Xbox gamers been left needing more?"

It was okay, nothing earth shattering.

I wonder about studios developing crack down - regant games a new studio that really haven't released anything (it's good that it's helmed by jones) the team is also made of ex Real time which is good as they did the original and not ruffian that did the awful crackdown 2. And also supported by sumo that largely does game ports like Disney infinity and fora horizon for 360.

Ex realtime devs need to prove they still got it after the fiasco with All points bulletin that pretty much caused the company to go belly up.

Kind of like the PS4 then.

Sick of fanboys fighting over their systems when NEITHER has any games worth shouting about after almost 2 years.

Pathetic.

This was a great show, and IMO better than their E3 show (I'm a bit worn down on their main IP's).

It was new games, and some great features like DVR (not huge since most cable subs come with one, but nice to have nonetheless).

Crackdown and Scalebound look very early (but both look like they have the potential to be very good games).

Tomb Raider has become more and more like a Naughty Dog game, but I can't say that's a bad thing considering Uncharted 2 and TLoU were the most critically awarded games of last gen, but this is not they Lara we knew.

Quantum Break looks amazing, and is everything I wanted out of it, and by far the best looking XBO game IMO (my only complaint is that you seem a bit overpowered). And the main character looks a lot better than the old model. Remedy is hands down the best Xbox developer, MS Naughty Dog. Quantum Break is probably the most interesting IP I've seen so far this generation.

Good job MS.

2015 is a good year for XB360 fans to jump on board, but 2016 is a much better year for gamers like me who aren't huge fans of Halo / Fable / Forza / Gears (although I do like Forza and Gears). Crackdown, Scalebound, and ESPECIALLY QUANTUM BREAK look like great games (QB looks amazing), and if you're looking into buying an XBO then this holiday or 2016 are the best times to jump in.

MS laid the challenge, now we'll see what Sony brings to PGW / TGS / PSX. Bring your A game PS, MS has brought it.

@Dirk Desperation is a Stinky Cologne. MS pulled a Hat Trick today, give credit when credit is due.

The conference was good but it felt like a run off from E3 rather than a well put together conference. Recycled allot of the things from June and even reverted back to the holiday line up.

Obviously since its approaching fast and Phil had to advertise each game with care and make sure each game is getting allot of attention coming up to its release. So its understandable.

No real new Ips like they said which is fine with me because I been craving to see Quantum Break, Scalebound and Crackdown. I've even complained MS could be going new Ip overboard.

A very good indie focus again I can't wait to play something like Yooka Laylee on X1 next year.

Gears 4, Scalebound, Quantum Break, Recore, Crackdown KI Season 3 and Halo Wars 2 (which was a requested game mind you) plus the great indie focus. WIN10 X X1 functionality, Elite controller, Chat pad BC and a new faster dash.

It was a good Gamescom. Not perfect but expect and I'm satisfied.

dirkdady990d ago

Probably because it was. Msft isn't used to doing gamescom and with both e3 and GC only a few weeks apart it can only feel like a run off rather than a standalone production.

donthate990d ago

Judging by the number of articles here and elsewhere and the overall very positive response (except for the usual fanboys) I would say MS did an excellent job.

MS still managed to announce a lot of games coming in 2016. That is just amazing in my opinion.

Others are just talking about things that generally years in the future, and MS keeps delivering.

Very happy to be an Xbox One gamer right now! Good job Team Xbox!!!

spicelicka990d ago

Hahaha follow the disagrees down for comments, there's the same 5 disagrees on most positive comments. It's funny.

Pogmathoin990d ago (Edited 990d ago )

It had games, games and some more games to boot.... Thats what it is all about, right? So yes, something for everyone, a top class show..... Nothing the earth shattering, but still great....

Edit: for me, Halo Wars 2 was omfg! 😃

0to100990d ago (Edited 990d ago )

if this was a sony event the title would already be biased to 'conference was the best & better than everybody else'

*cough* dualshockers *cough*

As far as Quantum Break goes, I cannot wait! Great cast and the concept of tv in game could work superbly.

TheGreatGamer990d ago

The 3 big hitters (QB, SB and Crackdown) all blew me away!

Rookie_Monster990d ago

Me too. The Halo Wars 2 announcement really made my day a complete success. :)

_-EDMIX-_990d ago

Agreed. Can't wait to pick it up on PC. Scalebound also looked really good, the rest were meh.

Not even due to being bad showings, merely not a fan of Crackdown and didn't care too much for QB.

Rookie_Monster990d ago (Edited 990d ago )

@ EDMIX below,

Wait, I thought you can't wait to play all these xbox games in your recent comments just a couple weeks ago including Crackdown, Scalebound, and Quantum Break on your PC? What happened after Gamescom that changes your mind?

RiseofScorpio990d ago

Nice try but your still giving MS money.

AngelicIceDiamond990d ago (Edited 990d ago )

"Can't wait to pick it up on PC."

Wow, go ahead!!... Not just to Edmix but every person that wants to buy MS games on PC

I'll pre-order it and gift it to you next year, personally. In fact I'll rally up some Xbox fans on here and other places to gift Halo Wars 2 or any other game that's on WIN10 to anyone who says "Ill get it on PC". I know its mainly the same old fanboys that keep spouting that. Said it with TF, Deadrising, KI, Ryse etc. Really hope your not assuming your some how hurting MS by buying their Ip's on PC. Because your doing way more good then bad.

It was "good" but it just wasn't "exciting". I think with all the hype of it being "amazing" I was expecting something on the same level as E3. For me, it did not get there.

But, it's good to see them carry through on past items and announce Halo Wars 2.

-Foxtrot990d ago

I think the problem lied in the fact the 3 biggest hitters for them we already knew about. They announced them way too early. Quantum Break, Scalebound and Crackdown 3

Only things to be surprised at were Homefront and Halo Wars 2...games which we didn't have any idea were going to be there. The rest seemed like a recap of E3

Sometimes it felt like it was mostly about Windows 10.

Good show but not amazing surprise wise like we were lead to believe

Sora_1994990d ago

I'd even argue if they had kept scalebound, quantum break and crackdown for e3 they would have slayed the e3 stage. This kind of felt like a rehash in a sense of stuff we knew which isn't bad at all but that doesn't make the conference great

gangsta_red990d ago

I think it's more of we actually got to see gameplay for these games we all knew about that was the most exciting part.

Septic990d ago

It was solid and I was pretty much expecting the same games to be shown.

Cloud compute on Crackdown though; that massive destruction was just incredible. That's a game changer for me.

Quantum Break looked stunning.

KI Season 3 was dope and Scalebound looked great minus the frame rate issues in its pre alpha stage. 4 player coop was exciting.

Things like cross buy and that chatpad etc were amazing for me and then Halo Wars 2 smashed it.

A solid show and inspiring a lot of confidence in the Xbox One's lineup for 2015 and its arsenal in 2016

Sureshot989d ago

Ur comment sums up my experience exactly lol. Wish there was a smidge more halo 5 campaign though...

ThePope990d ago

I think MS did a fantastic job of not treating Gamescom as a second rate show. I mean the conference lasted 90 min, and I don't think they pulled any punches. I would have liked to hear more about the new UI but oh well.

The only real way to rate the show is by asking; Did the show giving you a compelling reason to buy an X1. The answer alone is a yes, and combine it with E3 and IMO the X1 has become a must own.

I mean just look at the value that BC has already brought to the table in a month! It makes PSnow look like a Sony cash grab.

Septic990d ago

Definitely agree. PS Now looks useless in comparison. I hope they really announce some ultra competitive pricing at the very least in their conference in France. Still...paying to play your old games will never sit right with me.

Letthewookiewin990d ago (Edited 990d ago )

I was expecting more. Quantum Break looks really good though. But the conference isn't going to sell systems like I thought it would. All in all it was meh. Man, Sony better watch out....

AngelicIceDiamond990d ago

"But the conference isn't going to sell systems like I thought it would."

MS through everything they got at us at E3 and Gamescom. But I wanna know what would sell YOU the console.

And I'm not gonna throw the F bomb I'm just curious what would MS have to do thats consider a buy in your eyes?

Letthewookiewin990d ago (Edited 990d ago )

I already have one lol. Gamer tag: TheUpsetWookie. I bought one specifically for MCC and Ori. I think it's a great system. I honestly thought the conference was just ok. Edit I love Remedy, AlanWake was incredible so I'm excited for QB that also helped plus GameStop was having a system trade in sale and got the X1 for 143$. Anyway why are you so upset?

AngelicIceDiamond990d ago (Edited 990d ago )

Not upset at all. I think MS has done more than they needed to sell the console. Last gen the only incentive WAS Halo, Gears, COD and new dashboard at the latter half of the generation at E3 or Gamescom, that was it and everyone ate it up every holiday, granted the 360 was a hot seller so naturally MS took the lazy approach.

Those were MS highlights at those showings last gen. MS went above and beyond they FINALLY talking about not only games for this holiday but the rest of 2016 as well. And thats not including new X1 functionalities.

I think MS sold the console very well imo.
