Interesting interview. So basically they let out they were making a new home console so we wouldnt all panic and think Ninty was abandoning the home experience for a mobile one. Im cool with that. Now tell us what the NX is!

* They need to give developers time to make games so the NX can ship with a large library of games to play.

So I'm guessing it will release in 2017 or Holiday 2016 at the earliest.

Show off NX in 2016 and reveal it and gameplay of some NX games at E3 2016.

* I really hope NX gets Dragon Quest 11.

Iwata said that day one. But no nobody listened to him.

I expect NX to release in 2017

No91026d ago

I totally agree, many sources expect a 2016 release, but reading between those lines, they will introduce the system to the public next year for a 2017 release.

Activemessiah1026d ago

I think they're getting confused with the announcements and details which they said would be 2016 and mistook it for release... or just jumping to conclusion I guess.

ABizzel11026d ago

2017 is what I expect, but 2016 would be the wisest thing for them. The longer they wait the closer they get to PS5 / XB4 release, which would be a nightmare for them.

rdgneoz31026d ago

Exactly. They wait too long and release it, the next generation of PS and XB will overtake it in terms of hardware power (unless they want to pump out another new console just a few years after NX releases which would piss off Nintendo fans).

2016 would be disastrous for them.
It would be too soon, a mere 3 1/2 or 4 years rather than their standard 5, and would be a sign that they won't support a system all the way through.
That would make them more enemies than fans, and current fans would abandon them in flocks.

Past statements from Nintendo say that they are not abandoning the Wii U.
This article's statement and many others, have been made to SUPPORT that fact.

It'd take some strange yet serious reasons for them to pull such a move against all reassurances to their fans.

We won't see it till 2017 if Nintendo plays this smart.
Also, who says it would be a nightmare?
They could make a killer competitive system if they did things right; releasing in 2017 would not guarantee its failure.

At this point the 5 year cycle is a useless. The Wii U is selling horribly each year it struggles to sell 3m. The argument of it would hurt the Wii U fanbase is useless as well considering it's barely over 10m at this point. Only the most core Nintendo gamers have jumped on Wii U thus far, and the semi-fans have set this one out. The core is going to buy NX regardless and dropping Wii U 4 years (holiday 2016, not summer like the rumors say, which you said you don't follow) instead of the traditional 5 isn't going to ruin anything.

It's time to wrap it up and call it a gen for the Wii U, which was about 5 years too late to the party, and focus on the NX.

If Nintendo's feeling remorseful then they could let you trade in a Wii U for $100 off the NX at launch, and considering I think the NX is going to cost $299 max, that's not to much of a headache.

Statements mean nothing, and support can come in various forms. Support for Wii U could very well come from JP games and the 3rd party games that are always everywhere to begin with. As far as 1st party support it looks like Wii U has 1 more year at most, and maybe some ports down from NX, which again is "support".

Upcoming Wii U games

Only n4g fans care about Wii U have a long life cycle. People already know NX exists and that's reason enough for many people to not even consider buying a Wii U. And for those people the NX is the chance for Nintendo to finally get things right via hardware and services, something they're a generation behind the competition in.

And if they wait until 2017 they're pushing this console closer and closer to the PS5 and XB4 which would not be wise from a technological standpoint.

2016 is the better release. It'll be 4 years after Wii U, 3 years after PS4 / XBO which means a good portion of those gamers will be looking for a 2nd / 3rd console, and that's their time to strike with a capable console and a fair price.

2017 could work as well, but if I were Nintendo I'd be dropping it holiday 2016, not 2017.

GordonKnight1025d ago

Right after E3 in 2017 Nintendo should release the NX. There is so much hype around E3. To get a new console at the same time would be amazing.

pcz1026d ago

next year is going to be excruciatingly painful for the wiiu

GordonKnight1025d ago (Edited 1025d ago )

We will see. Things can change. Let see how the public takes to Mario Maker. I can see that game selling Wii U's. How many who knows. If Mario Maker can do what Wii Fit did, then I could see it having a better year in sales than 2015.

In the end I really don't care, but it would be cool to see the Wii U prove the D & G gamers wrong.

Fullmetalevolust1026d ago

The way I see it, I think investors and game developers need to be told in advance that a game console is being made in order to provide finance for development and games for launch titles. Even if Ninty kept it under wraps, it would've been leaked.

deafdani1026d ago

Not necessarily. Nintendo is one of the, if not THE, most secretive companies out there. Very rarely are there any leaks when it comes to them. Most of the time, people learn about Nintendo related news when they (Nintendo) decide to, not before.

GordonKnight1025d ago

They're good at keeping secretive about most stuff, but they do have leaks. Ryu was leaked for super Smash Bros.

“Normally, we wouldn’t have taken that step of telling people we are working on the next system, but we wanted people to know we remain committed to the dedicated game device business”

- In other words: "We wouldn't have told you about this until next year."

NOW can we call agree that the NX isn't being released next year?! [As if that wasn't obvious already]
