Video: Battletoads' infamous turbo tunnel revisited

Rare Replay is a collection of 30 retro games to celebrate the 30th year of beloved British game developer Rare, the studio behind Perfect Dark, Viva Pinata and Banjo Kazooie. If you dig into the Rare Replay bundle on Xbox One you will also find Rare was the outfit behind stone cold classics Snake Rattle and Roll, Digger T Rock: Legend of the Lost City and Solar Jetman: Hunt For The Golden Warpship.

I'm assuming it's still hard as sh**

I never actually played it (was too young at the time), but I absolutely cannot wait to find out for myself. Stating something obvious here, but difficulty can really make a game shine.

This is why Rare Replay is such a great addition to the X1 library because there are many like me that never got to fully experience the joy of some of these gems =)

Like me, this is my first time playing any game from this collection and I actually cant wait. Battletoads will be first and I will definitely be playing it co-op :)

Good luck. Battletoads is seriously f*cked up in difficulty. Most people never got past the turbo tunnel, and that's only the third stage in the game (I did, but didn't advance that much after that).

@StrayaKNT: Battletoads actually is much, much, much harder in co-op than playing it alone, believe it or not. :P

Best game or Games of the Summer!!!! How can you beat 30 clssic games for $30? That Battletoad tunnel level is like almost impossible, LOL.

I actually finished 'Battletoads' back in the day, took me all day too. With a great deal of cursing, gnashing of the teeth, throwing the controller down and screaming..

Actually the tunnel sequence isn't that bad once you've memorized where everything is and you can get by it, in a relatively short amount of time BUT of course, back in the day, no, it was a painfully point of total frustration.

poppinslops1147d ago

Respect... I must've hired it out 8 or 9 times, but I never beat the 3rd stage and it still haunts me.

So, I've gotta know - What was the rest of the game like?
Did it revert back to the platformer/beat-em up style or did it keep mixing things up?

Is the Rare collection worth my buying just to face my demons and try once (or twice) more to beat this motherfrogger?

barb_wire1147d ago

Oh god, now you're asking me to rack my tired old brain!!

Well, it's a mixture of the 2, although i should warn you that the later levels can be brutal (even worse than the tunnel one, timing is everything!), level 10/11 gave me so much grief.. can't tell you how frustrating it was back in 1992 (when i played it).

UnHoly_One1147d ago

I finished it once, too, but I have almost no recollection of the game any more at this point.

Looking forward to playing it again.

I hate this tunnel with a burning passion, cost me a SNES controller and about 3 hours of my time.

I never got past that tunnel. I do remember playing the battletoads vs. Double dragon game that came out. That game was awesome!
