Microsoft must love Rare’s Nintendo games as much as the rest of us

The release of Rare Replay brings to mind the history of Rare, one of the greatest game developers of all time. Most would argue that Rare's best days were with Nintendo, on the SNES and N64, with titles like Donkey Kong Country and Killer Instinct. It turns out that they Microsoft must love those old Rare / Nintendo games as much as the rest of us.

Sure. They love it. That's why they forced Rare into a company developing some Kinect crap. Recently they admitted that the reason they entered the gaming market was just fear of loosing the livingroom space (multimedia, movies, non-gaming electronics overall) to Sony.
Please. More. So many laughs. MS loves games as much as gamers. Comedy gold! :D

I don't know how much they love Rares Nintendo games, but once that money starts rolling in from Rare Replay, I know how much they will love them then.

Def. do not love them more than me, DKC is the reason I m a gamer today.

I tip my hat to you good sir.

DKC is one of the greatest games ever made. I hope you enjoyed DKC Tropical Freeze as much as I did- for me it's on my top 5 list of all time favorites.

Sony entered the market cause Nintendo blew them off , every company has a motive nothing new .

Look into Rare's Microsoft history. They had a ridiculous number of projects/prototypes cancelled through lack of direction or Microsoft not wanting to continue development when they were bought. Thats when they dropped all development in favour of Kinect they managed to refocus and ship games that sold really well, excluding Rivals.

The list of cancelled games/prototypes: Banjo Kazoomie/Banjo Karting, Kameo 2, The Fast and the Furriest, Urchin, Quest, Sabreman Stampede, SoulCatcher, Cascade, Arc Angel, Conker’s Other Bad Day, Ordinary Joe, Perfect Dark Core and a 007 remake.

Troll much. It's a business and releasing this collection is to sell.......any problem with that?

"So it’s a little weird that Microsoft has decided to remind the entire world of how good Rare were under Nintendo."

No. They acquired the company! That was the obvious flashing neon sign and certainly not anything that we needed a compilation release to tell us.

That being said, I'm looking forward to Rare Replay!

Nintendo should have just fully bought Rareware back in the day instead of only buying 49% and allowing Microsoft to buy it all from them. But I don't really care anymore since Retro Studios is doing pretty good too as its replacement for Nintendo.

Like Microsofts passion for Tomb Raider this gen all of a sudden lol

OhMyGandhi1145d ago

everyone blames Microsoft, but if Rare's "vision" for next gen was Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo, they were doomed from the very start.

While neither one of those games are terrible, by any means, Kameo in particular, fell FAR short of what he know Rare is capable of.

Muadiib1145d ago

Kameo was pretty good mate, certainly a lot better than PDZ.
