Fergal Gara, the VP and MD of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, has resigned.
Such a good guy , wish him the best !
a good guy
Indeed, also, welcome to N4G
lol you signed up just to say that.
he's probably Fergal Gara lol!
This is a bit sudden and a little shocking. I wonder why he is resigning?
Might have been he was taken on a 4 year contractual basis? Or maybe he's been head hunted by another company and offered a better package. Execs seem to move around quite frequently these days - especially playstation and Microsoft execs.
He seemed to be doing a great job and I'm sure Sony wouldn't want him to leave. Could he be heading to Microsoft?
I agree. Every executive move a around a lot lately.
Everyone have move on with their life, I think.
Probably he's needed in the Sand Village
Nice Naruto reference lol
@SaveFerris "This is a bit sudden and a little shocking. I wonder why he is resigning? .....He seemed to be doing a great job and I'm sure Sony wouldn't want him to leave. Could he be heading to Microsoft?" That's a bit over dramatic, no? Dude, people move around in this industry, just like in any other high profile roles. Why does it have to be a bad thing, or that he has 'jumped in' with MS? Even if he has, so what? ...it's a JOB, not the End of the World. I've come to realize that some people might just be too emotionally invested in these Companies.
I was just curious. Four years in that position doesn't seem all that long to me but there could be any number of reasons for him to move on.
Okay...sorry if I came off a little rude...I just woke up, and your comment was the first I saw. Thanks for not being a Total A## about it )
@thatPSguy No problems. Upon reading my comment again perhaps I did appear 'too emotionally invested'.
Tenure for CEO positions in large corps averages about 8 years, but is shorter in the tech world. It says he is off to pursue a new professional venture. If he were joining MS or any other competitor he would most likely be on 6 months gardening leave - however in this case he is staying on to oversee the handover, so I think it's unlikely he'll join MS.
hmmm...sounds ominous - Microsoft bound perhaps? Well good luck to him where ever he goes. Did well for Sony.
I'll miss him. PS Who?
Shame, only big Irish name in Sony that I know of is now gone. Still Sean Murray of no Man's Sky will fly the flag for us in the gaming industry hopefully encouraging more Irish to take part.
does that mean they are taking applications? :D
If he played an active role in the deal Sony have with Hori which stops us getting third party controllers like the MK gamepad and made it so that only now are we starting to see Mad Catz fightsticks come over Europe, then good riddance.
