Naughty Dog talks PS4 increasing Uncharted 4's resolution, plus advanced shaders

Naughty Dog has been on the cutting edge of gaming visuals ever since they released the first Uncharted iteration and with the four one upcoming, it's amazing to see the progress the series has made. The Last of Us Remastered was a helpful first foray into working on the PS4, but the studio believes they are now able to do even more with Uncharted 4.

Seriously next level stuff. They make 1080p 60fps look so easy.

SuperStatePro1206d ago

You're joking, right? Uncharted 4 is 30fps.

donthate1206d ago

I would take more on fx and such over higher fps or resolution in Uncharted's case. I also would want dedicated servers on the multiplayer part.

I'm assumign UC4 will have multiplayer?

Since Uncharted trilogy will not....

FamilyGuy1206d ago

Uncharted 4 at 1080p 30fps is great to me, if anything they could lower res or something for higher fps in multiplayer if they want but I have no problem with it the way it is.

Brazz1206d ago

single player > 30 fps.

multiplayer > 60 fps.

extermin8or1205d ago

The single player is 30fps multiplayer will apparently be 60fps. (I'm hoping splitscreen is back in and just plays at 30 fps but we shall see...)

Ezz20131205d ago

You are right and wrong at the same time
Multiplayer is 60fps and single player is 30fps

TedCruzsTaint1205d ago (Edited 1205d ago )

Only on N4G would disagrees almost match agrees when stating a fact.
At least when speaking of what is looked at as a negative when talking Uncharted.

And I am speaking of single-player. Nobody ever discusses the series and then brings up the multiplayer. It's all about the single-player, apparently.
Not saying that the multiplayer is bad. I hear the opposite, actually.

alti1206d ago

it's 60 fps now? I believe it was last clocked at an established 30 fps.

ABizzel11206d ago

30fps single, 60fps multi

miyamoto1206d ago (Edited 1206d ago )

One of the things I really love about developers is how they can do cool stuff exceeding expectations on a console hardware's limitations by technical mastery.

For Example:
1. GunStar Heroes for the Sega Genesis by Treasure
They created pseudo 3D polygons and scaling them just by using 2D sprites!

2. Uncharted 2 and 3 for the PS3 by Naughty Dog
The train levels and completely procedural ocean levels were just unheard of level designs on console!

Developers squeezing the last drop of juice from my console power and capabilities makes me feel every cent I paid is worth it. Really makes this cheat skate gamer very very happy.

PC_601206d ago

If it was so easy why is the single player running at 30fps?

CantBeStopped1206d ago

Look at it, you should be able to answer your own question.

Taero1205d ago (Edited 1205d ago )

The thing is, there will ALWAYS be a compromise no matter the console/pc/specs/date, jump 10,000 years into the future and people will be complaining that a machine can only simulate our solar system in photorealism with all 5 senses in VR with everyone on the planet logged in and if they wanted to leave it they'd have to stream in extra solar content and why can't [insert game company] do it, it doesn't feel next gen!

Lower res = increased fps
Lower fps = increased res
Increased res + fps = increased hardware (cost)

Remember, you can have it cheap, high quality, and quickly, pick 2.

IamTylerDurden11205d ago (Edited 1205d ago )

Bc 60fps isn't as important in sp, they'd rather stunning textures and visuals and a truly incredible looking detailed world which is easier to achieve when u aren't devoting resources to 60fps. I doubt Uncharted 4 sp could look that stunning AND be running at 60fps, maybe on a super computer.

60fps is better for mp bc it's fast paced chaotic action where ppl need that extra fluidity rather than more beautifully textured trees which they won't even be paying attention to - hence why Uncharted 4 mp is 60fps. 3rd person sp games are rarely at 60fps unless it's a remaster, like the Nathan Drake Collection.

TedCruzsTaint1205d ago

"super computer"

Or just a moderately up-to-date gaming rig.
Just saying.

You started what became this conversation. I'm just adding to it.

Sokol1205d ago

@SlapHappyJesus - No, a moderate PC would not run Uncharted 4 on same visual quality at 60fps.

Then again, depends what "you" consider moderate lol.

TedCruzsTaint1204d ago

There's nothing I've seen here that tells me a build of, say, a 770, paired with a solid i5, wouldn't be able to pull it off, honestly.
Build like that could be had around the 700 - 800 mark. Which is what I consider on the low end of mid-range.

Except Uncharted 4 is 30fps...

LegoIsAwesome1205d ago

Sighh. Idk for you guys, but I think they should dump sa MP so that they can focus so much in the SP and *possibly* make it 1080res 60fps.

That's thoughts anyway.

You guys cant see but I'm doing a little finger dance right now. Cant to play this.

Gamer4life131206d ago

Guys get ready to be blown away with UC4 being the best looking game ever on a console. Naughty dogs you guys are simply amazing and my opinion the Kings of devs then most other devs out there in the industry. I'm still bummed there's no MP on the UC collection but I'm happy that the beta is with it and I'm excited to play it once available.

donthate1206d ago (Edited 1206d ago )

Bummer about Uncharted trilogy not having multiplayer portion intact.

I'm hoping UC4 has dedicated servers. Only select few of Sony's first party games get dedicated servers with disastrous results like DriveClub.

KZ: Shadowfall a flagship game had degraded P2P i.e. Sony used a proxy in between the P2P to make it even slower than traditional P2P.

RocketScienceLvlStuf1206d ago (Edited 1206d ago )

Soo. You came in here just to troll. Clearly feeling threatened by how awesome UC4 is going to be. Looking at your comment history I suppose you had to find something to complain about.

CantBeStopped1206d ago

DriveClub was the first time Evo studios did multiplayer on a grand scale and they defenitly stumbled out of the gate but I've been playing DC a ton lately and it all works great now. Uncharted is a different deal all together as Naughty Dog has plenty of previous experience with multiplayer.

MysticStrummer1205d ago

"Soo. You came in here just to troll."

It's a pattern.

OT - ND is top shelf with their graphics and gameplay, so whatever they do is fine by me until they have a huge letdown. Some claim UC3 qualifies as a huge letdown but I think that's a huge exaggeration.

bradleejones1205d ago

I don't recall this thread being about UC trilogy. Or DriveClub. Or servers. Or KZ Shadow fall.... just bitching to bitch.

Naughty dog are the best video game developers on the planet right now. No other company comes close really

Lamboomington1206d ago

That just doesn't work like that... lol

They're amazing, yes, but your statement is... kind of pointless

CantBeStopped1206d ago

No he's actually correct, if anyone's statement was "kind of pointless" it was yours.

bouzebbal1205d ago

So is yours, commenting on other's opinions... can't be more pointless.

DoctorFry1206d ago (Edited 1206d ago )

I said it before and I'll say it again: Rockstar is better than Naughty Dog. I'd like to see Naughty Dog pull off an open world game like Red Dead or GTA V. Those games are more impressive at the technical level on their respective platforms.

Inzo1205d ago

"Those games are more impressive at the technical level on their respective platforms." Did you even play U2 and TLOU? Id like to see Rockstar pull of games like TLOU and Uncharted.

Aloy-Boyfriend1205d ago

So rockstar isn't any better until they make an action or post apocalyptic game with excellent storytelling. Right? Devs don't need to do what others do to prove anything. Open world isn't ND thing although Jak 3 was open world and it was great.

IamTylerDurden11205d ago

Ru kidding? Naughty Dog were basically the first (1 of the 1st) devs to pull off a seamless open world on console with no loading in Jak and Daxter.

Does this also make Sony Santa Monica less impressive than Avalanche Studios?

someOnecalled1205d ago

halway simulators is now technical marvels vs open world games til horizon comes out for ps fanboys.

tip: dont every say a ps dev is not the best or anything thats not stating sony is not godly on this site.

there games is good but if your not the type of gamer that like overly scripted gameplay you will not care for their games. i tried to get some friend into it the just didnt like it.

how much ps fanboys talk you would think uncharted and sold a hell of a lot like gt numbers or atleast half the number of console sold, but it didnt. hell uncharted one and two struggle to break a million at first but than again the sales didnt matter back then, right.

im glad this game is coming along well tho. still see no reason to invest in a ps4 right now. maybe in 2 years.

TedCruzsTaint1205d ago (Edited 1205d ago )

Max Payne 3.

TedCruzsTaint1205d ago

They are the kings of scripted action experiences. There's no denying that.

But they make specific sorts of games. They have only really developed 3rd person action titles, or platformers.

If they tried to make an RPG, they'd have to prove themselves.

Such a generalization is idiotic.

NeonEnigma1206d ago

You guys think there will be a supernatural twist like the previous games?

I_am_Batman1206d ago

I hope so. I really liked them in the previous games.

isa_scout1206d ago

I hope so. That's the one thing I felt was lacking in Uncharted Golden Abyss.

DLConspiracy1205d ago

They will probably steer clear of aliens. I mean it didnt work in Indian Jones...
