The Significance of Razer's Ouya Acquisition

Marcus Estrada writes: "The Ouya Kickstarter is one which long-time crowdfunding fans may never be able to forget. Back in 2012, Julie Uhrman and company made a pitch which many gamers just couldn't ignore. They were an indie studio creating their own video game console which cost $100. Sure, it would be an Android device, but people were tremendously excited at the prospect of having a brand new console (of any sort) for such a cheap price. Of course, the saga of Ouya went all over the place, and by now it is no longer for sale officially and most developers have given up targeting the platform."

The story is too old to be commented.

I wish Sega had bought ouya and started out in the video game hardware business again. They could have supported the ouya as it is now by releasing a lot of their old games for ouya and release another console in 2016 or 2017.

I bought one, looked promising apart from being bundled with the most cheap arse controller ever

The significance is that Razer wasted money on what is basically a non existing market.

Nvidia Shield TV cannot be defeated. Why bother with the ouya?

Who cares? It's a DOA market.

"...perhaps we’ll even see that next venture on Kickstarter."

If you do walk away, the OUYA was a gold mine gone bad in the execution.
