Have We Seen Any Instant Classics So Far This Generation?

Is there any game released yet this generation that might qualify as an "instant classic" in your eyes? Or are we still waiting on that special title?

All classics. Sometimes major game and classic aren't synonymous

But I do agree with those that say this gen is comparatively lacking to those before it in terms of classics in this timeframe.

My only console is a PS4 so I can't comment on Xbox or Wii games but yeah, Bloodborne is a classic in my opinion. I love the way the story begins to unfold later in the game and completely changes the way you view everything (introducing the Lovecraft themes), and the combat and level design is close to perfect. Brilliant game.

I got a PC copy of Titanfall and would add that to the list as well, definitely a classic in the multiplayer genre and it's crazy to see just how much it's influenced the industry already. It's almost as much of a gamechanger as the original Modern Warfare was.

I'd rank Bloodborne and Titanfall as the most fun singleplayer/multiplayer games I've played in a really long time. They're definitely classics.

Not gonna hate on Titanfall since i haven't ever played it, but it can't be much of a classic when the servers are off. I was thinking of games that people are going to be talking about in 10 years, that collector's will be wanting to add to their collection.

I'd define a "classic" by a game I'd still recommend even in 5 years. This generation that might be Bloodborne, Rocket League and maybe The Witcher 3 as well. I think that this year could add MGS5, Fallout 4, Persona 5 and Battlefront to that list but we'll see :)

Every canon Mario game, Smash Bros and Mario Kart are classics in my book. Definitely no exception with the Wii U entries.

Were only a couple years into this gen but so far games that I cant stop playing are:

Cities Skylines (PC games released in the last couple years should count as part of this gen too)
Rocket League
Depth
Insurgency
Forza Horizon 2.

Dont have a PS4 yet so I have not played exclusives like Bloodbourne, Driveclub and more. Still need to get Witcher 3 and MGS 5 and Fallout 4 will most likely be classics as well.

This gen it's Destiny (b/c it will be remembered), Bloodborne (though it will always be in a Soul's context), and TW3, for byielding a gorgeous world with unparalleled story and questing.

That said, it's new IPS or iterations that usually make the biggest impression...like Bioshock, Fallout 3, Lost Odyssey, Ni No Kuni and Valkyria Chronicles last gen. So, maybe we have yet to see a true classic yet. Even now, it's mostly sequels that most ppl are waiting for. MGS5, F4, Halo 5, Persona 5, FF15, Uncharted 4...Maybe Battlefront will be special...who knows.

Until then, I want my Bioshock...all 3 remastered.

For the PS4 and XBox1, the classics still seem to be on the way, but there are some promising ones coming: Recon, Scalebound, The Last Guardian etc.

Also, a couple of really overrated games in Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight, if you want to judge them as games rather than interactive stories. Gameplay-wise they are both balls.

I played Xenoblade Chronicles using Dolphin and HD texture packs and the game is outstanding. You wont be disappointed. Make sure you take your time and don't miss sidequests. They really make the game complete.

As a 40 y/I old gamer, I would say Forza Horizon 2 is the greatest driving game I have ever played. Killer Instinct is also a classic re-born.

Can't comment on Wii U or PS4 as I haven't got those yet.

Halo:MCC ..And Im probably going to have to explain my reason for this one. Its my own opinion. So here goes. If you disagree, thats fine:

Its had its issues. We all know what I mean. Had they never happened this game would have been king of the hill, critically speaking purely as a game. Its halo. But it was ruined by the issues for a long time. But when it drops you into an online match. Its the same halo we all played on Xbox 360 and the OG xbox. Only better. Just playing halo MP at 60FPS is enough for me. The only shooter I need. But certainly not the only shooter I want. But it is my favorite. BTB is still a riot. Slayer is still this tense ultra competitive, tactical-on-the-fly thing that is always was. But its smoother and tighter now. I love playing H2:anniversary slayer and BTB on any map. It still feels like the most balanced, most skilled based FPS out there, next to counter strike. Both games have another thing in common. They have been played billions of times over the decades online. Good MP never gets old. Ask anybody who ever played mario kart of goldeneye. They would pick up either of those games today and lose hours to them, effortlessly.

Im sure people here will disagree, but as I said, those are my games that I consider classics so far.
