The Ongoing Star Citizen Derek Smart Drama

It's always fascinating, and vastly entertaining, to witness an online gaming feud break out. Normally such actions involve your typical mmo players, but it goes to a whole new level when it involves developers throwing down with each other. The game in question where the brouhaha has erupted is Star Citizen, the upcoming sci-fi sandbox game being developed by Chris Roberts of Wing Commander fame. Hope everything works out with this game and we get a full release next year. Has the potential to be an amazing game.

I'm still not a big fan of MMOs, but I loved Wing Commander / Privateer / Freelancer. I'm a little torn with this one.

Squadron 42 is the name of the singleplayer campaign. Google it.

Random quote from a random article: "Roberts said he believes anyone who happens to be a “Wing Commander” fan will likely be very happy with “Squadron 42"

@Tibbers: Yeah... but that's like buying Call of Duty for the campaign. I feel like it would be a bit of a waste. Maybe once I see some reviews and have a sense of how fully fleshed out it is, it will be different.

"We refunded Mr. Smart’s package because he was using Star Citizen as a platform to gain attention as part of a campaign to promote his ‘Line of Defense’ space game. Our ToS (or in this case the Kickstarter ToS) allows us to refund troubled users who we would rather not have interacting with the community."
Sounds about right. What a douche, but it's not like that'll stop him. :/

I don't think it's that simple. He had some valid points, and in this day and age of high profile kickstarters, if something like this would turn out to be a dud, it could set back the crowd funding model significantly.
