Rumor: XBL Silver Now Allows Free Online Play?

OK, this is hard to run down exactly, because there's a Live Weekend going on right now, which means you can play online for free on Xbox Live. But reader Draco, a Silver level gamer, says that he's been playing cross-platform multiplayer games for free since Wednesday night, which precedes the Live Weekend (which started at midnight Friday.)

pwnsause5745d ago

cross platfrom multiplayer games are free.

Kleptic5744d ago

yeah I thought MS stated that when the game released...would probably piss some 360 owners off that are paying to play PC gamers that are playing it for free...unless it required that joke Windows Live service too...

fufotrufo5745d ago

if true..the end of the poor PSN

Jackthepwnsaur5745d ago

why poor PSN if the games that arent cross game multiplayer still needs a fee to be played on live? stop being ahead of yourself.

Aclay5745d ago

NO, if this is true it's not the end of poor PSN, the people that have already paid $50 bucks for Xbox Live Gold have gotten ripped off, that's what.

mikeslemonade5745d ago

No, if true... microsoft gaming studios will go out of business because then everyone would cancel the $50 subscription which is a key driver for their profit. How else can they afford getting FFXIII and GTA4 exclusive content?

Sayai jin5745d ago (Edited 5745d ago )

It will not end the PSN, but it will make XBL even more appealing and give 360 owners an excellent free service.

Yeah, I mean no! MS Game studios will not go out of business. MS has money to throw into this division.

mfwahwah5744d ago

it works for Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition and Universe at War: Earth Assault, too.

jaysquared5744d ago

Sony will probably go out of business before MGS(Microsoft Game Studio) goes out of business! C'mon Halo3 sold 1 million the first 10 minutes it came out. The biggest game on the PS3 which isn't even a 1st party game to come out (MGS4) only sold 700k the first month. The other BIG PS3 game FF13 is going multiplat.. When KZ2 flops it would only guarantee that Sony will be selling all of their first party studios. A game like KZ2 thats taking $50 million to develop and would probably sell only 1 million throughout its lifetime because of the bad reviews its going to get will just be icing on the cake!

How will sony go out of business if the sell TVs, Home theater systems, walkmans, have 2 movie studios(Columbia and MGM), sell BD players, burners etc.? did you forget this? did you also forget that the PS2 have sold over 140million consoles and counting? did you forget that the PS2 is helping Sony profit in its gaming division while the PS3 is attempting to become profitable, which it will by march 2009 since it doesnt have ridiculous defects that the 360 has with its RROD issue, in which Microsoft payed 2 billion dollars last year to attempt to fix the problem?

did you not see what KZ2 has going? look at the KZ2 fact sheet and come back to me when you talk about KZ2 flopping because theres no chance in hell that its not. Guerilla Games have smacked the doubters in the face by showing visuals that are only possible on the PS3, not to mention the gameplay and it multiplayer counterpart.

and before you talked about how they spent $50 million dollars on making Killzone 2, go look at Halo 3, a game that looks almost exactly like halo 2, with the only difference in lighting. not to mention they had to degrade the game's resoution because they wanted to make the lighting right. all that took 50 MILLION DOLLARS TO MAKE, and it was a very disapointing game and a very disapointing ending, with a multiplayer that actually played the sameway halo 2's multiplayer played, just with the differnce of adding new weapons.

and when you talk about FFXIII going multiplatform, just go back to all those articles and read on the PS3 version will sell more than the 360 version.

GarandShooter5744d ago

If this is true the X-onlys should be thanking PSN. The competition drives improvement.

Pretty stupid of them to post it on the Official Xbox forum.

name5745d ago

After reading the forum it's only for cross platform PC games that play with 360's. Since windows is free now.

Gam715745d ago (Edited 5745d ago )

This is nothing new.

I've been saying for a couple of months that some games are playable online through silver

Don't ask me which ones but someone at M$ call centre said.

ShadowRun - An Xbox 360 Classic Left to Rot

ShadowRun arrived in 2007 and is still played by a core audience on modern consoles and PC today, despite a bungled launch.

coolbeans111d ago

Played it a few months back. Not a stellar mp game at its time, but still genuine & janky fun.

Sciurus_vulgaris111d ago

I have never played Shadowrun. However, the universe of Shadowrun seems like a good setting for various game genres. The franchise combines traditional fantasy tropes with cyberpunk science fiction.

Rebel_Scum110d ago

Yeah since the megadrive game I’ve always thought how cool the setting and premise is but the game never really delivers on gameplay.

ocelot07111d ago (Edited 111d ago )

Really enjoyed this back on 360. Was one of the first pc games I played as well. Nice to see it's still online I'm going to have to see about getting a copy on pc again.

Edit: is this backward compatible with series X?

Gcayton1110d ago

Fun game... just not Shadowrun.

porkChop110d ago

The Shadowrun RPGs from Harebrained Schemes were great, but that IP is just begging for a massive, Cyberpunk 2077-style game. Open world action RPG epic with a healthy dose of immersive sim goodness.

shinoff2183108d ago

That could turn out really good for real.

The 7 Best Xbox 360 Games - Console Exclusives Win the Day

The Xbox 360 was a fantastic console in its day with some truly classic titles, but what are the seven best games for the console?

DrDoomer138d ago

I'm pretty used to these lists being bad, but this one is particularly s#ite.

raWfodog137d ago

I think Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon should have been added to the list.

BrainSyphoned138d ago

I'll go with,
Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Culdcept Saga, Shadow Complex, Ace Combat 6 with the flight stick,A Kingdom for Keflings, A World of Keflings.
Bonus Kinect Games: Happy Action Theater and Sesame Street.
*Skyrim was so bad on PS3 that it almost deserves to be #1*

Husker42c138d ago

I really loved Shadow Complex.

P_Bomb137d ago

Ah yes, Shadow Complex! Good indies back in the day. Summer of Arcade. I enjoyed Trials Evolution as well.

ChasterMies138d ago (Edited 138d ago )

Was this made by a.i.? No human being would put Shadowrun, Fable III, and Splinter Cell: Conviction into a list of the 7 best Xbox 360 games.

Abnor_Mal138d ago (Edited 138d ago )

Would love to play Ace Combat6 on PlayStation, but Xbox decided to buy exclusivity and keep it off a competing platform.

The only mainline game I never played except for one level at a friends place. Game sold less than any other in the series if I remember correctly.

darthv72137d ago

360 had Namco hitters AC6 and RR6... both quality titles. You should at least bust out the 360 for AC6 if you can score the flight stick. Its great.

Hofstaderman137d ago

When the current gen XBOX offering is so lacking people need to refer to games released two generations back....

Profchaos137d ago (Edited 137d ago )

It's a nostalgia peice same reason we get thousands of YouTube videos on sega genisis. Something people have fond memories for but the era is long gone.

It's xboxs golden year imo it was their genisis years the time where they stuck it to the market leaders Sony.

BehindTheRows137d ago

They stuck nothing. Sony screwed themselves giving Xbox an opening. They would have gotten the usual smack down if the PS3 had launched at $399 and was easier to develop for.

Shadowrun 2007 almost had a System Shock-style singleplayer campaign

But Microsoft said no.

XiNatsuDragnel250d ago

I'm not surprised I hope if Microsoft is more open to these things.

anast248d ago

That would have been fun, so they said no.
