Week recap: PS3 80GB; Xbox 360 60GB; Wii Controller

Sales for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 fell further in Japan following the June debut of Konami Corp.'s Metal Gear Solid 4. The hardware ranked No. 4 in overall sales.

Sales for the PS3 80GB MGS4 bundle rocketed this week upon availability at The bundle SKU ranked at No. 3 in Fri. sales data.

The 20GB Xbox 360 Pro SKU this week held increased sales following a price cut in July. Microsoft will retail a new 60GB model this fall.

Amazon this week began pre-orders for the 60GB Xbox 360 SKU. The model will replace the discontinued 20GB model and retail for $349.99.

The Wii Classic Controller may see a retail ban following a ruling of patent infringement in favor of Anascape Ltd. The Wavebird controller and GameCube controller were also found to infringe on Anascape's patents.

Nintendo said this week that it will increase Wii shipments to the U.S. amid sell-out status of the hardware nationwide. The company added it cannot promise availability of the hardware this holiday.
