The PS TV hasn't been the success that Sony had hoped for, but the latest offer on the micro-console is sure to get a bit of attention - it's practicaly giving the console away once you factor in the added extras.
This could sell a lot of units if Sony advertised it more. There're heading in the right direction by bundling it with the 1TB PS4.
The PS TV is so gimped that it borders on useless. It literally is a streambox for PS4, PS Now and ability to play a minor selection of Vita games. Can't use Netflix, Hulu, or any other streaming service including YouTube.
Sure does serve its purpose with me since I hate playing on actual handhelds. Every game I want is compatible too. My only gripe is that I can't watch Netflix but then again, Netflix is already set to go in literally every room that has a TV from some sort of console or different device already.
Minor selection? Doesn't it play most Vita games and only a few are excluded?
Minor? It plays most PSVita games and all digital PSP games (or most of them to my understanding) also plays all PS1 games too. I'm looking to get a PS TV for the same reasons I got a Gameboyplayer back in the day (seriously pissed that Nintendo never made another player for DS or 3DS!) This is a nice way to play PSP digital games and most PS Vita games on the big screen. I still have tons of JRPGs I wanted to play on PSP and many more I still want to play on Vita, ie Parasite Eve Third Birthday, Ys 1 and 2 along with Final Fantasy III (never got to play it on DS and might and want to play it on the big screen as suppose to handheld, I'm old damn it, my eyes are not what it used to be LOL!) Also Person 1 remake, Persona 2, Patapon 2 and 3 http://vitareviews.net/play... This is basically a Vita and PSP for your TV. (I should legit just get this now as its a great deal and I want to take advantage of those free PS Plus Vita games). If you have bad eyes, like playing on the screen and not a handheld and missed the PSP and Vita and love JRPGs......its a great buy! Mind you, those games don't take up a lot of space and you can still use the regular Vita games instead of downloading them if you feel just. Funny thing, I was never getting a PS TV for PS Now or for PS4 steaming lol I'm not even sure I'll ever even try either features. Side note, damn I want a DS and 3DS player!!!!
I'd like if remote play worked away from home. You go on holiday you only take the PS TV and leave PS4 home
abzdiine: For some the experience of remote play at home is so terrible that a remote experience over the internet would be just catastrophic. You think PS Now is bad? It will be just like Share Play In short horrible!
I bought one for 40. Its awesome but gimped to hell. The best games don't play which sucks but the main thing stopping it from being a must own is no media apps. I would buy one for every tv if had Netflix, amazon, and crunchyroll just for a cheap streaming device and games. Sony blundered the vita and this device even worse. Still p4 Golden on my tv is cool. Wouldn't pay more than 30-50 for a single unit or bundle though. I honestly think Sony purposely held back media apps so people wouldn't buy this over a ps4. Now its a ps4 companion so people buy both.
The best games don't play? Such as?
I thought gohastings charge alot on shipping? Making the deal useless.
in UK at moemnt u can get 1tb console, batman and obviously ps tv comes with it too. all for £330,odd places have it for less.
I bought one when they were $89. Just to stream ps4 to the kids room. Pretty cool, and saved me from buying another ps4. I got spoiled having multiple ps3. Playing the free ps+ vita games is just a bonus.
Omfg, that deal...
That's even better then the $69 sale Wal-Mart had a few weeks ago. It's a shame I already have 2 and don't need another one. This is a steal. When I bought the bundle for $69, I then sold the controller for $25 to help with the cost because I didn't need another one.
How is the streaming on it? I mean really. I have a vita and 100% i prefer to play it on the Ps4 directly. Does it work well on Ps tv ?
Yes because: 1. It doesn't play all Vita games. 2. It sells like crap. 3. Games don't look good at all upscaled to 1080i, and it doesn't do 1080p. Not a fan of jaggies. 4. It doesn't support Vita apps. I mean come on no Netflix? 5. It will soon be bundled with PS4's. I haven't used my PSTV in forever. At least it looks pretty small and doesn't take up much space. Worst console ever... If it can even be called that.
thinking it was a console is the biggest problem to begin with in your statement Sony didn't intend it to be that they wanted to basically be a way to play your ps4 in another room without moving your ps4 and some people find that useful sure it supports PSP games PS Vita and few other platforms but there's reasons why it doesn't have support for every single game because it wasn't designed for that I mean it's in the name its called PlayStation TV but you are definitely right about the whole TV asking if you're going to call yourself PlayStation TV man what are you expected to support some sort of TV content mean like Netflix or Hulu or YouTube
Taken from the Sony website: "A sleek and compact console with a universe of PlayStation games available to stream and download." Even Sony position it as a console so you can see why consumers may see it as such. If it had Netflix, supported ALL Vita games and streamed from PS4 in 1080p then you'd have a killer product. As it stands its value proposition is pretty much nil if you dont have a PS4. And based on its sales to date it seems to have a low value proposition even if you do have a PS4. Do some find it useful, of course. Does it have wide consumer appeal...not in the slightest.
Nitro, just don't tell Sony. According to them it is "A sleek and compact console" with "Unparalleled streaming capabilities" ... In 1080i only... Without Netflix... Or YouTube.... Or the ability to play hundreds of Vita games....
You know in a form factor that small you would think it would at least be Sony's answer to Roku or Fire TV. But it completely fails to compete with those, maybe by design? It's possible Sony doesn't want the PS TV to have good feature like Netflix as they want you to buy a PS4 for that.
it fails because its way too limited.
1. It supports hundreds of Vita games, but not every Vita game can be translated into the DUALSHOCK3. 2. It sold poorly bc ppl don't take the time to understand what it is. 3. Obviously games made for a 5in screen will look less crisp on a 60in TV, the upscaling helps and certain games look better than others. The appeal is being able to play Freedom Wars ect on the big screen and with a DUALSHOCK3 or 4 controller as well as streaming your PS4 to another tv when the kids/wife ect are tying up the main tv. 4. U have no device that can run Netflix? 5. 1 limited PS4 Bundle will include PSTV, not every PS4 is coming w/it. That's what u fail to understand, the PSTV is many things. PSTV is a Vita without a screen meaning u can spend 30$ on a PSTV and play most of the Vita games u might've been interested in without having to drop 170$ on a Vita. It's a streaming device that allows u to stream your PS4 to any other tv, if the kids are watching Ren & Stimpy on the main tv where your PS4 is connected u can use PSTV to stream your PS4 to any tv in the house. U can access your ps+ games as well as the ps store through PSTV. U can use the DUALSHOCK4 with PSTV and utilize the touchpad as u would the Vita touchscreen, kinda the best of both worlds. PSTV also supports PSP, PS1, and PS Now.
"It sold poorly bc ppl don't take the time to understand what it is." Sounds like MS announcement of their DRM scheme. It is Sony's position to explain what it is especially something as convoluted as this. There is a standard set, and this do not measure up. "4. U have no device that can run Netflix?" Sure, but I expect a small device like this to be able to. A device that can do multiple things is worth more to me. I have a PC, does that mean I do not want a smart phone to check my email because I can on PC? I think for what it was at $99 MSRP and the requirement of buying a controller, and then a memory card it was an extremely poor value. Even at the $50 point, I am not sure it is worth it, because future support is sketch. Of course $50 at launch with the pad and memory card, ready to start out of the box sounds like a reasonable value.
@donthate Why ru answering my response to Mikledemi as if ur him? Is this a secondary account? Lol at "of course 50$ at launch with the pad and memory card, ready to start out of the box sounds like a reasonable value". "reasonable value"??? 1st off u get the PSTV, a new DUALSHOCK3 controller, an hdmi, an 8gb memory card, and Lego Movie game as well (some retailers include Sly Cooper TiT also). That is an insanely spectacular value, don't downplay it too much...Doesn't a new DUALSHOCK3 msrp for 50$ by itself lol. It's a difficult device to advertise/explain, but i agree that Sony should've explained it better to casuals. In general Sony makes fantastic products but is awful at explaining them and promoting the benefits. Even God of War 3 Remastered wasn't at all promoted well, ppl claim it simply has 1080/60 and u get nothing new, no new content/features, no extra graphical work was done, & that u get nothing else w/the game - wrong on all counts. New weapons/mounts, dynamic lighting & shadows were added, some texture work/graphical refinement was done, filters/better anti aliasing, photomode, improved camera, free dynamic theme, God of War 1 and 2 are free on PS ow for 90days w/purchase.
tyler: I do not know mikle. This is a public comment section, so I respond when I see fit. It's a discussion isn't it? "That is an insanely spectacular value, don't downplay it too much...Doesn't a new DUALSHOCK3 msrp for 50$ by itself lol." I would never pay $50 for a DS3 these days, nor would I pay even half that. I would buy a DS4 on sale personally. "In general Sony makes fantastic products but is awful at explaining them and promoting the benefits." Sony makes good products sometime, and a lot of time way overpriced. "Even God of War 3 Remastered wasn't at all promoted well, ppl claim it simply has 1080/60 and u get nothing new, no new content/features, no extra graphical work was done, & that u get nothing else w/the game - wrong on all counts. New weapons/mounts, dynamic lighting & shadows were added, some texture work/graphical refinement was done, filters/better anti aliasing, photomode, improved camera, free dynamic theme, God of War 1 and 2 are free on PS ow for 90days w/purchase." I cannot speak to that GoW 3 remaster, but it isn't that great of a value compared to say Halo:MCC. Then again GeoW:UE isnt' that great value either, but as a fan I will buy it and enjoy it. Uncharted Trilogy is better value, but man did they gimp the multiplayer! Anyhow, I digress! Why are we worried about what Sony (or MS for that matter) should or should not do. That is their problem. I only comment on what is offered to me, and PS TV is a decent deal for the $50. Why? Because it is essentially similar to a gimped Android gaming device! With most Android devices I can still play games, but also get all the media apps and then some. All this content is far cheaper than Vita games.
Ren and Stimpy ? What is this the 90's ;)
@ MIKLE. can you post it to me then please. I'll use it if your not going to.
gravity rush is the only game I want to play from the vita and it doesn't support it. i'll pass.
I played mine a couple of times and never touched it again.
This doesn't have Netflix, Amazon, Hulu or YouTube?
Nope. But hey, according to Sony its designed for streaming... Oh wait. All it is, is a gimped Vita that I was stupid enough to pay $99.99 for at launch because I wanted to stream my PS4 games without buying another PS4. Having said that, after playing PS4 games in progressive, interlaced just doesn't cut it. So it's really a piece of junk that fails at everything it tries. If it was at least 1080P and had Netflix and YouTube, I could use it as a streaming box... But nope...
Nope. I don't really care though as I have a PS4, PS3, PC etc that can do those things. This is really for playing PSVita, PSP and PS1 games. I would play many, many JRPGs on this! lol. My eye sight isn't what it was when I was younger and I tend to lean towards playing it on the big screen. I feel this should have been promoted similar to the gameboy player adapter for the Gamecube. Many might not get its value right away, but all one needs to do to sorta get it is just look up the host of great JRPGs that are on PS Vita and on PSP. I know I didn't play every JRPG on that handheld and I still want to, but not really on a small screen lol. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref... http://vitareviews.net/play...
I hope they didn't make a lot of these...
They did... Even for free, I would not take this piece of crap.
Be honest, it sucks! Otherwise Sony wouldn't be giving it away. Stop with the love affair and call a spade a effen spade!
PSTV is for ppl who want to play their Vita titles on the big screen and/or with a DUALSHOCK3 or DUALSHOCK4 controller. Ppl who are interested in many of the awesome games available on Vita, or have amassed a gigantic collection of Vita games via ps+ and want to play them without dropping 200$ on an actual Vita. If u have 100 ps+ Vita games why the hell not drop 30$ and grab a PSTV, u now have a massive collection of games for 1/2 the price of 1 new PS4 game. Ppl who live w/someone or have a family and often have the main tv in the house in use by others, u can stream the PS4 to a different tv via PSTV and play w/your DUALSHOCK4 as normal. It's actually quite the interesting device and not as niche as ppl make it out to be. It fits in the palm of your hand and is obviously very non intrusive and portable. I kinda just think it sounds fun playing Freedom Wars on the bigscreen in 1080 with a DUALSHOCK4.
I'm tempted to pick this up, but I kind of want to wait until it's even cheaper.
50$ for PSTV, hdmi, DUALSHOCK3, Lego Movie game, and 8gb memory card is ridiculous, this is THE deal. I've seen the PSTV alone for 30$ but it's normally 40. This deal is stupid good, i wouldn't wait. To anyone with ps+ and no Vita who was smart and flagged all the Vita games each month anyway, this deal is for you, you now have 100+ new games at your fingertips for less than the price of 1 PS4 game. Awesome Show, Great Job! Hooray games!
This price is amazing!! If you're at all interested, pick it up now. For Remote Play alone its worth it.
Out of stock already :/ This was one heck of a deal! basically buying a dualshock 3 controller that came with a free pstv, memory card, HDMI cable, and game.
Won't even think about getting one until it can stream Netflix like most other streaming devices. Maybe bundled with the ps4 but still not getting one of those until the good aaa games get released.
I will grab one soon!
I hope PlayStation tv improves.it needs a lot of work.
I managed to sell mine on Craigslist for $30 less than what I paid for it at launch. Best decision I ever made. When i did play around with it, the games looked like crap and I couldn't use YouTube or Netflix on a box designed for streaming. Sony really doesn't know what to do with the PSTV, and that is why it will forever be just a mediocre PS4 streaming device. Although really, why woul dyou want to play your PS4 games in 1080I? Sony needs to update it to stream games in 1080P and then I will instantly buy one again. I don't even care if they update anything else about it.
The bundle is showing $84.95 on Amazon, not $49.99.
Sadly it could be free and no one would still care. Vita is done. Too many people these days say "I'll wait for more games" and because they don't support the hardware the games don't come. Good games like Phantasy Star Nova never get translated to English... and then add that to all the kids watching games online rather than buying them and you have an industry that's going to die a slow death.
the problem is it still requires you to buy the hyperexpensive propietary memory cards (8GB are negligible for Vita)
