Looking Backwards: Praising the Xbox One's backward compatibility

Now that the dust from E3 2015 has settled, many of us have begun the long wait for the holiday season. Games like Fallout 4, Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider were heavily showcased, but there's one E3 announcement that everyone's still talking about.

One of the best ads from E3 by announcing this new free resource made the Xbox this ahead of competitor as they do not depend on remaster the full price.

Along with the large AAA that will arrive this year:
Gears Remake
Rare Replay
EA Access
Early Access
Best servs- Live
Console Multi task
enter other ...

Surely Phil made the Xbox the best place to play in this and in the coming years.

Rookie_Monster1226d ago

Dang.. I was about to type that. Great minds thin k alike.:D

Agreed, the BC with the added bonus of using XB1 features like broadcasting made the whole year for me as a XB1 owner.

I can't wait to play Red Dead Redemption, Halo Wars, and Lost Odyssey later on this year!

Nosred1226d ago

Yes addition of new games coming, we can enjoy the Many great games that had the X360, is it very game for one person.

Your Joking right? They are relying on remasters just as much...Rare collection 30 remasters, MCC 4 remasters, Gears 1 another remaster....

They have just as many as Sony TLOU, GOWIII and the Uncharted collection are literally it...

90% of the remasters are THIRD PARTY PUBLISHERS skippy, so lets not pretend that MS is so amazing considering they haven't released a 1st party exclusive since list Novembers REMASTERED Halo collection...

As far as BC If you think that ANY game that is or is being considered for a remaster is getting BC your on some strong drugs...People keep voting for games like the Arkham games, yeah um its confirmed that Arkham remastered is coming in November...If MS decided to remaster Gears 2 and 3 yeah um they wont be making the final list....

umair_s511226d ago

Rare collection is not remaster

RiseofScorpio1226d ago (Edited 1226d ago )

Tearaway Unfolded, God of War and Uncharted all in 2nd half of 2015. Rare Replay are just BC games and Gears is a remaster not just an uprezzing.

NeoGamer2321226d ago

You may want to change your tag from deadpoolio316 to 100pctbitter.

You seem to miss a bunch of remasters... Flower, Journey, Flow, DC Universe, Unfinished Swan, and Hustle Kings. Make no mistake Sony is relying on remasters to double-gouge gamers. They have released more remaster than any other publisher this gen so far.

You complain about MS releasing nothing this year so far, but what is Sony publishing in the last half of the year other than Until Dawn, GoW III Remastered, Tearaway (another port/remaster), and Nathan Drake Collection? That's 3 ports/remasters and 1 new game.

Meanwhile MS will publish Rise of the Tomb Raider, Halo 5, Forza Motorsports 6, Fable Legends, Gears Ultimate, and Rare Replay. That's 3 new games and 2 ports/remasters.

Sony is weak in the holidays, MS is weak in spring. Both are weak in dead winter and summer.

As for BC, you are looking at it wrong. By including BC games with current gen games like they are doing with Fallout 4 and Rainbow Six Siege they are strengthening the brand. People will buy remasters if they add value. But, now rip off ports will probably decrease (hopefully).

GameForever1224d ago (Edited 1224d ago )

Tearawy is remaster and practically a new game, God Of War is more than just an uprezzing it has much higher rez textures and better lighting and runs a 60 FPS. Same goes for the Uncharted.

The same goes for Gear Of War it is uprezzed and has much higher rez textures, from what I gather the only thing remastered is some parts of the cinematics. It is not a fully remastered game.

As far as list go, I doubt everyone is excited about everything on it, for me theirs a couples of games that I care about. And a one thing on that list is not true, Xbox has a bad reputation for multiplayer not working well on release, particularly for first party multiplayer games. My experience with Multiplayer has been the same on all the system. PSN servers are just as good as Xbox Live servers.

I will bet that the PS4 will still be ahead of the Xbox one in US for the run of this gen.

Some of these you can do now but the big changes coming this fall... Please feel free to add if I missed anything.

whothedog1226d ago

Yes, the reason I bought a new system is to play old games that I could play on a system I bought years ago.

Nice feature but really, this is what gives the advantage over competition? Old games?

t-hall7851224d ago

well now we can get rid of our old system. save power and save space. That's a great advantage to me.

Summons751226d ago

Good move, now hopefully Sony can find a way to solve the problem.

ChuckTheIceMan1226d ago

I don't think there is a problem to solve. I own both so it's great that xbox is doing this, but it doesn't bother me that Sony is not. I still have both previous gen consoles if I want to play those old games but I never do.

RzaDaRazor1226d ago

You would play them if they were as easily accessible as clicking a button instead of turning on a whole other console, changing inputs, changing controller, etc. People don't seem to understand how convenient it is to have everything in one place.

whothedog1226d ago

I think people do understand it's convenient, but pretending like this is the best thing since sliced bread is stupid. Now don't get me wrong I think it is a cool feature, but that's it. Just that. If Sony decided to do it for their console I would say the same than, I don't want to play old games on my PS4, I really don't.

And come on, you act like it is so hard to play the games on the 360. OMG change the input !! Use the other controller!?! You have to change input for the Xboxone don't you?

Dewitt1226d ago

Sony spent 300 million on Gaikai, that was their solution. Maybe they will fix the pricing structure, but it will never be free.

iceman061226d ago

True. Plus, this wasn't just about BC. It was also about extending Playstation and it's games onto set top boxes, smart tv's, and potentially smart phones in the future. We'll see how this gamble plays out. (as you said, something needs to be done with pricing...but...options.)

TheLoCoRaven1226d ago

Not gonna happen. The PS3's architecture with the cell processor makes it impossible. Backwards compatibility is a little overblown anyway. People don't buy new consoles to play old games. I have a backwards compatible ps3 and I think I used that feature about twice to play Twisted Metal 2 . . . thats it, one game.

Now I just keep my PS3 and PS4 hooked up cause I have a huge backlog that spans generations now.

Summons751226d ago

Ms said the same thing and ps3 games have no problem playing on ps4. It's crap and you know it.

TheLoCoRaven1226d ago (Edited 1226d ago )

PS3 games play on PS4? The PS3 games are being streamed to the PS4 . . . because the ps4 architecture cannot play cell processor games. Its x86. Whats crap is your understanding of hardware. And realizing streaming isn't the same thing as processing locally.

Sony's servers are doing the processing.

JasonKCK1226d ago (Edited 1226d ago )

"PS3's architecture" is just the go to excuse. Funny how everyone else gets it to work accept Sony, and only on the PS3. They can emulate from every console gen but somehow the PS3 is just too darn tough. There are modders emulating PS3 games on a PC for free. Every time fans use that excuse it just makes Sony look incompetent. Fans will say anything to deflect from the fact that Sony's plan is to charge for it.

I have said it before, if I ever get an X1, BC will be the reason why. I love to replay the games I own, I don't like re-buying them. Great thing about PC is it's always BC.

TheLoCoRaven1226d ago

Have fun with that. I buy new systems for new games and collect all my old systems.

Believe what you want, but PS Now isn't meant for people that already own the games. Who would own the games and sell the system?

343_Guilty_Spark1226d ago

The Cell isn't impossible to emulate. You just need highly skilled and adept coders. Cell could probably be emulated entirely on a multi core CPI. The PS3 GPU was super weak.

I don't care about backwards compatibility. Old games are old.
