Gamespot compares the original God of War 3, with the remastered version in this graphics comparison.
0__0 I see no difference between the two
If you look at the shot before you start the video you can see the difference between 1080 and 720 but it's not very significant. I say the biggest difference will be 60 fps. Although the lighting is much better on the PS4 version and also the picture is much sharper. Try pausing it in certain areas, makes it easier to see. Also a lot less blur.
remaster is so sharp yet smooth, I must play this again
Was it no 60fps on ps3 just asking?
@shineon I believe it was 30 fps on PS3
A compressed YouTube video showing footage of both in the same clip can't do the real life difference you see with your own eyes justice. 720p 30fps vs 1080p 60fps, it's a no brainer. Having said that, i think this comparison says alot about how incredible it was from a technical point of view that Santa Monica made this run on PS3 at all.
There is a huge difference! PS4 version looks way better!
@Shineon It stayed mostly in the 30s - mid 40s on PS3. A DF article comparing the retail version, to the demo. http://www.eurogamer.net/ar... I can't wait to see what SSM can do with the PS4, so far they've just been helping smaller studios.
So they upped the resolution from 720p to 1080p, turned on anisotropic filtering, and added a sharpen filter similar to an unsharp mask... and called it a "remastered" game? They're charging $40 as well? I remember the days when a "remastered" game had an all new textures, additional effects, a truly remastered soundtrack, and even things like all new cutscenes. Now they just tell a couple interns to up the res and slap a $40 price tag on it while they laugh all the way to the bank. The game should cost $25 max.
60FPS will make the game so much smoother. This is a game that will definitely benefit from the framerate jump. Also, I guarantee the graphics look much crisper. I can't wait for that Poseidon battle.
Youtube isn't ideal for comparing remasters like this. If only Gamersyde had access to both, we'd see a proper difference. Having said that, it's still a PS3 game at 1080p and 60fps with increased shadow resolution and better texture filtering. It's not a remake so unless you really love 60fps and want to play God of War 3 again, don't expect too much. I still have Witcher content and Batman content to play that will for me personally last until Until Dawn and then MGSV shortly after (and maybe Mad Max but it's a shame they release on the same day).
it could be 4K if the textures are the same size then it's a garbage remaster...
You make it sound that the game was always crap for not being 60FPS last gen to begin with. I for one am not gonna pay $50+ for a game just for a 60FPS boost, a 1080P upgrade and a minor graphical texture differences. For God's sakes "new comers" aren't gonna know WTF is going on when they start the game. They're gonna sit their scratching their heads going.. WTF?!?! Why am I on a climbing mountain woman on my way to Olympus?!?!? Fail SONY.. FAIL! You could've included every game. You know you could've!
it ran at about 40 fps on ps3 most of the time.
Yeah, really look and study it to find the difference. After a while, you will forget about backwards compatibility and the forty bucks it will to cost to possibly look slightly better.
Look at the video thumbnail. There's a difference in lighting, AA, skin shader, resolution and frame-rate.
Pretty sure you can't see frame rate in a thumbnail..
Genuine, that isn't what a typo is.
@CuddlyREDRUM You're absolutely right. I meant to say typing error.
It looks a lot sharper to me. Just look at the time details of his armor. The game looks fantastic though. Looks like its aged well.
Def much sharper.
Should have gone to specsavers.
The only difference I noticed was resolution/framerate, the textures didn't really look any better.
All you have to do is look at the thumbnail
Goto 2:33 and you'll see.
Still not worth $40 for higher resolution. Sony should have included GOW ascension with MP in this set. Oh well, maybe I'll get it when it comes down to like $15 as I still love this game and kept the PS3 disc but no PS3 console anymore. :(
Agreed. The God of War Saga was only $40... And that had GoW 1 and 2 on one disc, GoW 3 on the other, and download codes for the two PSP games. $40 for five titles was a good deal. This is not a comparable value. Not even close. At least it exists though for those who haven't played it. Double so because it's a summer release and won't be demolished during holiday season.
anyone else find it interesting how Sony is competing these remasters with PS Now ? why would someone stream worse quality PS3 games when they could get a better looking game and they get to keep it and play it without lag or disconnections. that investment in Gakai doesn't look good. i'll give it 2 years before PS Now is completely shut down.
@Rookie Monster 1. You don't have a PS4 so you can't get this game 2. Your precious Gears of War Remaster could have also included a hell of a lot more than it does but no one mentions that 3. Doubt you ever owned a PS3, and I believe that was a subtle insult towards PS4 users regarding backwards compatibility. Nice try troll. Edit: lol at Spacedelete. He really is bothered by PSNow isn't he. Here's to hoping it's hugely successful.
$40 would be an awesome price for God of War 4...
Really? The difference is extremely noticeable. Its just not worth 40 quid in the slightest. Maybe 15-20 quid.
Def a difference... dont know if Ill buy at 40 though.
I'm not paying $50 for a game that released on March 16, 2010 with minor tweaks thats for sure. IMO this should be a game "FOR THE PLAYERS"
The game already looked awesome on PS3. Other than the extra framerate I'm not sure what else could have been done to improve it.
Guys this isnt aimed at us, it's for those who missed it if they didn't have a ps3 and had Xbox 360 instead. I still plan on buying it but not at $40. Maybe when it's 15 to 20 Now if they had included a demo for next god of war than surly worth it. I mean it's most likely coming in 2016, Santa Monica hasn't done a lot since last god of war.
Ok either you're lying/trolling or you're clearly blind, come on its like night and day.
worst remaster ever... Geras of War UE thats a true remaster...
You mean when the remaster looks worse than the original in some areas?!
lol i dont think it looks worst, its just the same with better resolution and fps... looks like free money for sony...
@holin4 Not to bright are you dinkles? He meant Gears of War. He meant that looks worst in some areas than the original and I agree, the original Gears looked way better for it time than the remake does.
Sorry, I guess there should be a message down the bottom reminding stupid people to open their eyes before watching.
Really goes to show you that those comparing differences between GoW3 and GoW3 RM look similar are the same who think there are massive differences between 900p and 1080p. These games look very similar and yes the PS4 is better but you wouldn't really tell unless you look at the frame rate which in many games is the most noticeable when playing Remasters. Resolution gets old but Frame rate doesn't. Sony can get away with it because they don't offer BC, if BC was implemented then no one would bother buying this Remaster. (In before gamers bring up Gears Ultimate) Gears of War is an aged game and actually could use a Remaster, GoW3 doesn't, it still looks good on PS3. This is why all consoles should offer BC so companies don't need to waste time and resources on Remastering games that just don't simply need it.
If you played on the PS3 version for 1 hour, then switched to the PS4 version. You would notice a huge difference in it. First thing that would jump out would be how much sharper it looks and not quite a blurry. Then you would notice the increase of texture resolution then at which point you would notice how much smoother it was running. This is a remaster not a remake. Don't get the 2 confused.
the difference isnt substantial enough to warrant a remaster. lets cut to the chase- its just a way to milk fans
Way to milk fans you say? You're not obligated to buy it. It's a way for some of the people that didn't own a ps3 last gen that owns a PS4 now to enjoy this awesome game.
Get your eyes checked then.
@Sonyslave3 I can tell a difference in the preview thumbnails of the video, without even watching it. Maybe you should go have your eyes checked.
yes of course you can, if put on my sonyponyfanboy glasses i can see that too xD
that music playing over video is so friggin annoying. in terms of game i think it just shows how good it looked on ps3,yet there is a difference its amazing how good it does look for the age of it.
Maybe you need to open your eyes...
Looks great and amazing game whatever console u own it on. It push the ps4 gfx since Start
Damn God of War III holds up hell it looks better than a lot of modern games
Well God Of War 1 back in 2005 held well against even what would be PS3 and 360 games. Sony Santa Monica do an unbelievable job with the hardware given.
Your joking right? God of War 1 aged horribly and even looks pretty bad/dated in the HD collection...The HD Psp games looked better than GOW 1
Wow they look almost identical.
do yourself and everyone else a favor. go see an optometrist.
i agree. but at least it doesn't look worse like Gears of War Ultimate
Some devs are really good at cheating the eyes and that's why that PS3 version looks similar. The PS3 version in action still looks amazing, but that PS4 one is soo preeeetty, so crisp, even if it's a remaster, new games should take notes at what the level of details should be the norm.
To make GoW3 looks even better is quite an accomplishment when the original already looked that good. It must feel nice with 60 fps too!
No new content, just native 1080p/60fps? Looks doesn't worth.
It's not just about the looks. Once again this is catering to new adopters of the Playstation platform and, at the same time, providing an options for those who just have to have the prettiest, shiniest version of the game.
wouldn't it make sense to remaster the whole trilogy for new players ? GOW3 starts straight after 2's cliff-hanger ending. very lazy and pointless remaster. i'll wait until it hits PS Plus before playing again.
Then don't buy it?
Sound like a lazy port. They should've outsource it to Bluepoint or something.
New content? We're you expecting multiplayer or something?
New weapons or new playable characters or new challenge maps ? You're paying 40$ for a remaster and you don't want more stuffs out of it ?
@neiT720 You have the option of not purchasing it, if you feel it's not worth the purchase. Besides that if you start adding stuff to it, it no longer is a remaster it would be a remake.
You're forgetting that the Ps4 is simply just a Ps3 for people who never had one.
