Japan PSP sales leap on new colour release

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has seen sales of the PlayStation Portable jump in the territory following the release of a new colour version, and a 1 Seg tuner pack.

The Metallic blue edition of the handheld spurred sales to over 74,000 units across the week ending July 20, up around 20,000 units on previous weeks, according to Media Create.

Nintendo's DS Lite came in at second selling over 54,000 while the Wii saw sales of almost 41,000 units.

The PlayStation 3 numbers fell back slightly, with just 11,000 in sales, while the PlayStation 2 sold 9500 and the Xbox 360 shifted 4200 units.

Its weird, how can a color make sales go up? these japan dudes are excentric as hell...

It's probably because people held out in order to buy the new color once it came out.

In fact, it happened many times when the DS released new colors: Any more sales you see now would've been registered earlier had the colors not been announced. There's maybe 5% of the extra sales from people who like the new color and got it exclusively for that reason.
