The Last Guardian Would Have Been Fine on PS3, Says Creator

"Many have wondered whether The Last Guardian could have been released on PS3 without technical holdups and shortcomings. The answer was presumed to be no by many, but creator and director Fumito Ueda says differently. He claims that hardware issues for his games pretty much evaporated with the release of the PS3." -PSLS

Huh. I wonder what it would have played like. Just out of curiosity.

Rimeskeem1235d ago

I remember there being an interview with Fumito. He said something along the lines of, 'the game was good on PS3 but wasn't as good as we wanted it to be'. Probably paraphrasing the crap out of it.

"And just in case that comment was misleading in any way, technical limitations probably only existed up to the PS2 generation. From PS3 and PS4, especially considering the delivery of expression, motion, etc. – from those elements, it’s a matter of how the game is designed, but it’s not technical limitations at that point. The PS3 was not restricting me from doing something."

"Ueda: It was pretty much a corporate decision by Sony. And that’s where we’ll leave it. [laughs] Sorry."

This is too good of an article to just gloss over and not read, guys.

breakpad1235d ago

TLG delay was obviously Sony's decision ...the sparse PS4 exclusive library is very obvious now and TLG was a mandatory change to boost PS4 early life

kaizokuspy1235d ago

@breakpad. Sony has 10 games plus multiplats coming out from now until Jan 2016. Xbox one has games too, but not 10 exclusives from now until the end of the year. I don't understand, do you read or are you just biased? Sony fans complain about the xbox one not bc it's a bad console bc you guys are continually blinded by the same old same old and it's just sad. :( I want to get an xbox one, but there's no point when I have too many games I'm backlogged on my ps4 with.

Rookie_Monster1235d ago

If PS3 can achieve games like TLOU and Uncharted 2, then there is no doubt TLG, with countless more development time can also be possible on PS3.

Crimzon1235d ago

What are those 10 exclusives that we have to look forward to? Could you list them?

Rookie_Monster1235d ago (Edited 1235d ago )

At Crimzon,

The 10 games that kaizokuspy had mentioned probably came from this recent gamereactor article interviewing Yoshida:
Sony are bringing ten "very different" games to PS4 this year

"When you just look at the big triple-A blockbuster titles, yes, we don't have many, but we are actually planning about ten games to release this year from now till the end of December," Yoshida-san told Gamereactor when we talked to him at E3.

It is just smaller and niche titles like Tomorrow's Children and Everyone Gone to Rapture and not the AAA type. But hey, games is games regardless so good for some PS4 gamers that like these games.

kaizokuspy1235d ago

Rookie monster is right. I was referring to that article. I like niche games. Rocket league, rogue legacy, fez, minecraft. I spend many hours in those niche games that start out as indie.

ShinMaster1235d ago

They said, they would have had to compromise.

I'd rather they didn't.

PS4 release FTW.

SatanicEyeJesus1235d ago

Sorry xboners trying to dimish what @kaizokuspy said, but Persona 5 itself is way better than any XmasOne exclusive release this year. No, Halo is not as cool as you think it is.

Septic1235d ago (Edited 1235d ago )

Hold up, didnt Shuhei Yoshida say that this wasn't possible on PS3?

Now Ueda is saying the complete opposite?

"The PS3 was not restricting me from doing something."

So tech reasons were NOT the reason for the delay.

"It was pretty much a corporate decision by Sony. And that’s where we’ll leave it. [laughs] Sorry."

Errr....why is everyone ignoring this?

Azzanation1234d ago

It amazes me how people choose to ignore it. There's definitely a big misunderstanding between both parties on this one. I read the article where they mention the PS3 being restrictive.

mikeslemonade1234d ago (Edited 1234d ago )

TLG currently looks better than any PS3 game and looks better than atleast half of the current gen games.

Irishguy951234d ago (Edited 1234d ago )

PS4 has 10 games coming out xD

Selective Ps4 fanboys. If you wanted small indies you should be on PC. There are at least 30 coming out before Xmas. Sorry but Xbone wins this year. Choosing to ignore that is up to yourselves as usual.

CuddlyREDRUM1234d ago

That is weird, he is saying the exact opposite here. Seems to actually be saying it was Sony's call to sell PS4's.

The bigger problem for some Playstation fans like myself was we bought a PS3 in part because of The Last Guardian coming to PS3. Seems like it was delayed by Sony.

ShinMaster1234d ago (Edited 1234d ago )

@ Septic

"why is everyone ignoring this?"

Why do you care so much? It seems to me like some people ARE acknowledging the fact that his statement is opposite that of Sony's ^

Maybe it's not that big of a deal as you want it to be.
Maybe people are just happy that the game is finally coming out.
Or... maybe it's not that big of a deal as you want it to be.

But maybe you're right and we're not being critical enough for you.
Let's see.... PlayStation fans terrible. Microsoft better. Shuhei Yoshida not as cool as we think.

Think Shadow of the Colossus on PS2 vs PS3 remaster.

Sure it was amazing on the PS2 and such but it was much more smooth and crisp on the ps3.

So basicly, TLG would have had much more choppy performance, lesser resolution and possibly some cut content (he said that everything is doable but how much more effort and time would it take? SotC had a ton of cut content)

But I agree, it would have been cool to see the game actually running on the real machine. That demo they promised with the Ico & SotC collection would have been sufficient ;)

medman1235d ago

"Fine" is not what gamers are looking for from The Last Guardian. I for one am very happy it made the move to PS4.

Meltic1234d ago

if it can meaby its time they crank up the physics then

1234d ago
OhMyGandhi1234d ago (Edited 1234d ago )

they have to be careful with this one. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were both masterpieces. But this game, as good as it looks, needs to avoid the tedium and repetition of a similar game like "Papo & Yo" to ensure it's single player co-op remains interesting and innovative.

triple_c1235d ago

And it'll be better on PS4. It was a smart move moving it to PS4 rather than releasing it so late in the PS3's life cycle.

Relientk771235d ago

I'm glad its on PS4 though

calvincrack1235d ago

Legendary gaming story. I think we can all agree on that. What other games have skipped a console generation due to development issues? Duke? Too Human?

SolidGear31235d ago

Those skipped multiple generations though

deadpoolio3161235d ago

You know there is a massive difference between 15 years, and 20+ years(Too Human started as an N64 game) and The Last Guardian which was announced in 2009, so lets not be drama queens and act like they are even comparable

Irishguy951235d ago

FF versus
cough sorry FFXV

weirdo1235d ago

it deserves to be on ps4
