A look at both the film and some of the online remarks about it
If you're gonna do a film about online remarks, how about you broaden the palette a bit and represent everyone and not one demographic... last I checked it's a gaming COMMUNITY.
* The same people that say those things to women are the same ones that say the same stuff to men. Troll is a troll and will troll anybody. Men just usually move on with their lives because nobody will give us sympathy for it.
I agree that we should also show what happens to men as well. However, it still doesn't diminishes what happens to women. For some reason women are more picked on than men, and I witnessed this myself often.
Considering there are more men gaming, and more in situations to be verbally assaulted, that seems highly unlikely. After all, women often get help in games just for being women; that's something that certainly doesn't happen in the reverse. But that preferential treatment never gets discussed.
Spotie: "After all, women often get help in games just for being women; that's something that certainly doesn't happen in the reverse." I think being nice or nicer to someone is hardly something we should discuss other than promote! I don't see a lot of male players wanting that preferential treatment.... "Considering there are more men gaming, and more in situations to be verbally assaulted, that seems highly unlikely." Women are consistently bashed all the time. In fact, just saying "bitch" is an insult to women directed at a man. If you truly believe men are more verbally assaulted, then I suggest you look harder. Either way, it doesn't make it right to verbally assault anyone male or female. As males we shouldn't be jealous, we should be supporting this, and then also highlight the fact that this doesn't just happen to females, but males as well and that we don't like it even though we are told to toughen up.
Funny enough, reading the part of this article that mentioned "rape talk" reminded me of a couple of days ago in Heroes of the Storm when I wiped, and the dude in my lane messaged that he was going to "rape me into the ground." The funny part is that I was playing as Uther and my name was BillyLiar...
