VRFocus reports on HTC reportedly suggesting that Valve's Steam Machines will be too slow for virtual reality (VR) hardware right now.
Viveport, the VR retail platform from HTC is now giving developers 90% of their game revenue, instead of a 70/30 spilt like Steam.
It could be free and it wouldn't matter at this point. There isn't really a PCVR Market and I say that as a PCVR user. It is modders and enthusiasts with a few retail products on Steam.
Fan projects Team Fortress: Source 2 and Portal 64 have shut down after Valve intervened in their development.
First they open Steam up to more AI, now they are shutting down fan projects when at one time they used to support or even give the fans jobs.
Wonder what's going on with Valve at the minute.
There's potential that Valve had already planned to bring Source 2 to TF2 officially after Counter Strike 2. It's been getting some renewed attention lately.
You got Nintendo to thank for Portal64 being taken down. As for TF2, most likely it's due to the probability of Valve working on a source 2 port themselves. It's sucks but Nintendo are the biggest pricks in the business and not letting this drag out into a huge court drama is the best decision.
Valve has updated its stance on AI games on the Steam storefront, allowing creators to publish AI-created games.
Hell no. I want games that have been made by creative minds who have a passion for their craft, not a bot with a penchant for plagiarism.
So instead of paying for an engine and assets to create a game they are paying for an engine and assets to create a game.
I remember when people were saying that steam machines would bring the end to traditional consoles and i thought that was funny. Ive been a pc gamer for a while and any educated pc gamer would know that majority of gamers prefer the plug and play ease of use that consoles provides. Tinkering with the hardware of steam machines or pcs arent for most people.i know the steam machines are being made to be plug and play but some tinkering will be involved with either hardware or software for future upgrade to run certain new games.
people dont want to deal with the headaches of software conflicts and a whole lot of mess pcs have sometimes with conflicting software.
I havent been hearing much about the steam machines.
VR too soon anyway. Give it another decade or two then it will be ready.
