Sony Explains the Long Wait for The Last Guardian

The Last Guardian has been in development since 2007. The game was revealed in 2009, and took six years before it reemerged at this year’s E3. There is now some insight on what it was that took so long for The Last Guardian to be developed, as well has some of the changes that the team behind the game went through.

OK I'm not worried.

"When The Last Guardian was shown at E3, a new studio called Gen Design was attached to the project. Yoshida revealed that Gen Design is comprised of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus developers. The team is working with Sony‘s own Japan Studio. He explains: “Gen Design’s president used to be the lead programmer on Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Core members of the Shadow of the Colossus, under him, became independent, to do creative stuff. But the main development team is still in Japan Studio.”"

This part made me smile.

"But what made us continue to work was the encouragement from people. Journalists always asked us every year [about it]. We knew lots of people were intrigued by the game and were waiting for it to arrive. Because of that I felt it was my responsibility to get it completed.”"

Sony listened.
:)

Kind of reminds me of Shenmue 3 and FF7.

What is up what,Sony's Jap studios? They tend to take their sweet old time from the Last Guardian to Gran Turismo. They need to speed thing up a bit as it is hurting Sony financially.

Edit at Mastercornholio,

Sony listened.
:)

Ok..where is the DC PSN plus version, local PS3 BC, external HDD support, MP on Uncharted HD Trilogy, first party support for VITA since year one? Those are some of the top requested item on many PS gamers' bucket list. :/

I have to smile when I read comments like his. The PS4 is more important to him than the console he owns. It's undeniable because he spends his time in PS4 articles instead of discussing his own console. He doesn't even have a PS4 and it matters more to him than any other gaming hardware and Sony titles consume his thoughts :)

Yeah and your obviously can't tell that I was talking about the Last Guardian. Your just butthurt that Sony listened to demand and supported the project instead of abandoning it.

Sony listened.

:)

Pretty funny how your desperately trying to downplay this game. But deep down you know you can't do anything to hurt it.

I agree.

Instead of being happy for us since we are getting a game that we have been demanding a long time he chooses to hate on Sony by bringing something irrelevant into the article.

Anyways let him continue his hate and hopefully he will truefan himself.

Unfortunately this game began development during the very early years of the PS3 console life cycle. Meaning that certain aspects and optimizations of the PS3's architecture weren't fleshed out yet during those days.

Basically, Team ICO were developing the game wrong at first -- from a technical standpoint -- and by the time they got comfortable, it didn't make much sense to get this long-awaited game made for the PS3 when the PS4 was coming out.

they released some gameplay when it was first shown running on the ps3 only now it is known that gameplay was sped up back then. they basically lied to us of what was possible on the ps3 and now ps3 owners will never get to play it.

Oh that's why I just presumed axl rose was directing it
