Splatoon has sold one million copies, Nintendo has announced. Plus a new Japanese commercial.
Crows are served again. Congrats!! Nintendo!!
Served again? Please elaborate oh and congrats to Nintendo... Edit: Ok but how many times have we heard from you guys claiming you won't support games that are rushed or have missing features but then go on to support Splatoon. Like I said congrats to Nintendo ;)
Really... http://n4g.com/news/1722497... and if you scrolled down we see your comment "Nintendo pretty much ruined the games chances to be successful ever since that whole 'no voice chat' fiasco. ;) Also theres currently a demo out that can only be accessed during certain time periods which is absurd I deleted it right away." Edit: On and the debut sales in Japan. http://n4g.com/news/1736011... No one there to bash the game after being served.
But you said Nintendo ruined this game's chances of being successful because of voice-chat did you not? Just admit you were wrong and STFU for once.
So the wii u went about 7 months without a proper game and the first substantial game available sold well on the console after a significant drought. About 9 million people had nothing new to play for months so this shouldnt be a shock. I already know anything not praising Nintendo is seen as trolling or just being negative so the fanatics will be out in full force to disagree. To each his own. I don't know why anyone would support a failed console when its literally over for wii u. Another console will be out soon to replace the wii u and nes fanatics will run out to buy it expecting a different situation. Realistically there will be bad third party support, game droughts, terrible online, silly things like missing voice chat from certain games and all sorts. this has been happening for several generations and it always turns out the same with little change
@Cindy I agree totally, Nintendos line up this year has been sparse. But a lot of people said this game wouldnt sell because it didnt have Mario or Zelda in the title. Go through the comments in the link i listed below. It is still important that Nintendo released a successful new IP, and it may bode well for their future game development.
The features aren't missing. They're right there on the disc!......you just can't access them yet.
To be fair, this game was a pack-in...it would have been embarrassing if it didn't manage a million. Also... https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Splatoon wasn't a pack-in with every Wii U, only special edition Wii U's exclusive to Best Buy in North America. And the bundle didn't launch in Europe at the time the game launched. Most of the game's sales come from digital and retail, not bundle sales.
"Most of the game's sales come from digital and retail, not bundle sales" Any sources for that? Regardless, being a pack-in is still going to get the game in thousands of more gamers' hands, whether they're interested in the game or not.
A pack in for a console that sells like crap, and only in Europe (where it sells the worst). Whats the point in twisting this? Why cant we praise a new IP for selling, is that so hard. No one had an issue when Bloodborne hit 1m, and it was also bundled.
I don't have any "issue" with it, I'm just pointing it out. No pack-in should do under a million. It should be expected.
So.. On one side of the coin it sold many copies.. ..On the other it sold consoles, What a weak trolling effort, (the video just made it saltier..lol).
The silly little video "made it saltier"? How upset can one be to misinterpret that in such a way? It was a funny video that I came across a few days ago that I wanted to share in an article with fans of said game. The video is not negative in any way, shape, or form.
To be fair, the pack-in sales are not why it sold a million. It would still have reached this level of sales even without the bundles. There is no handicap.
Forgot to say, enjoyed the vid lol.
It was a freaking Best Buy exclusive in North America. That is my source, are you trying to tell me that Splatoon's Best Buy exclusive bundle pushed the game to 1 million units? LOL, are you serious?
if you read the article it will tell you most of the sales came from digital and retail. The pack-in was not everywhere, so your point is wrong. @TheYellowFlash30 I think this guy is crazy to think most of the sales came from best buy since they have the exclusive pack in
@Silent - I highly doubt people were rushing out to buy consoles for this game. I would say that the majority of the sales came from retail and digital stand alone.
Alright, i called it a month ago. About a dozen comments down. Everyone there can eat crow. http://n4g.com/news/1722497...
E3 everyone bashed Nintendo. Good news I hear crickets.
Because people were criticizing Nintendo's E3 for being weak, especially compared to last year's. This is an article about a game that was received well and has sold well. See the difference?
yet you're still downplaying the success by suggesting it only sold a million because it was a pack-in game and it would have been embarrassing if it didn't reach 1 million. good sales for the wii u and a new ip.
That isn't a criticism, let alone "downplaying"; that's just a fact. If someone is going to start the thread with a "OMG eat teh crow" comment over a single million in sales, I'm going to point out that it did have that handicap.
@Silent - like Knack's sales right? ;)
It's a great game and a nice change of pace for multiplayer shooters. I've really been spoiled this summer with this, Witcher 3, and Arkham Knight. Congrats on the sales Nintendo.
I wonder if crow tastes like chicken :S Anyway congrats to Splatoon
Great. Nintendo should take note of this. When you advertise something, that gives it its best chance at selling.
It was obviously going to sell fairly well. My concern though is that the American community already appears to be dying off. When Splatoon first released about 25% of people I would play with were Japanese, now it appears to be about 70%.
I only notice a lot of Japanese players when I play at night, for obvious reasons. Besides that, I usually only see one or two.
Awesome, this game is inkcredibly fun and deserves to sell another million units.
I see what you did there, touché!
It's pretty tentacool and only cost me a few sQuid.
I see what you did there.. ;)
Okay, stop it now. No-one thINKS these are funny any more.
You a fan of My Dyink Bride?
They've got some great songs. I'm a big fan of A Squid to Suffer In
I've not bought my copy of Spat00n yet I'm getting it same day as DevilsThird comes out prob buy Bayonetta2 as well not got that yet either...
I was actually a little incorrect on a previous article, too. I said before that this would sell well in the long term. Turns out the short term was all it needed.XD Grats Splatoon!
Great news. Congrats to all those involved.
That's great to hear.
I remember people saying this game wouldn't sell for various reasons be it because it didn't have voice chat, too colorful or because it didn't have Mario in it. Not bad for a a new I.P. Splatoon and its makers earned it.
Happy to hear this, the game is brilliant and extremely fun. It also shows Nintendo had faith in this game since they heavily promoted it. Well, it paid off, congrats Nintendo!
Congrats Nintendo !!!
Awesome to see a risk pay off for Nintendo. Kudos, game looks fun.
*two thumbs up*
The system could have used game like this at launch.
All of there titles should surpass a million sold considering they don't have 3rd party support
With the success of Splatoon and Sunset Overdrive, perhaps Jet Set Radio Future 2 might be considered.
