Sorry but with all the other games coming this year I don't think Tomb Raider will overcome the rest for GOTY.

I have to agree. I just don't see a drastic upgrade over the last game. It makes me worry when they say they are not being held back by 360 or last gen. Other than the cutscenes and Lara's new face, I just feel like they are just reusing a lot of things straight up from the last game. I don't know how others feel about this. Glad we are getting a sequel, but it seems like I just want to see something new this time around and I like how other studios are making new games like Guerrilla who were known mostly for Killzone or FPS.

Uncharted 1 was the nemesis of originality, its sequels carbon copies with less inspiration and ever more generic, yet they won awards. GOTYs are driven by hyoe and fanboy blindness, not quality. Not that the new TR's are impressive anyway.

@x5exotic

"No Originality" and "carbon copies" yet a game which most developers try to be like with their games.

How many times did you hear something like "our goal is to be cinematic" or "we want to tell a great story like you would see in a film" AFTER Uncharted game out.

Septic883d ago

I'm expecting a conservative upgrade over the reboot so yeah, nothing earth shattering or GOTY worthy unless they REALLY nail the package. The contenders have some amazing titles and the competition is too stiff imo.

Who knows though, maybe it might surprise.

This game has no chance to be goty, the battle is going to be between Metal gear sold 5 Bloodborne Fallout 4 and Battlefront

Docknoss883d ago

I've haven't played uncharted or Tomb Raider but my friends have played both. Think extremely highly of TR compared to UC.

@exotic

well, I get your point, but the difference here is mainly for the fact that Rise is at current gen while TR was a last gen game. Uncharted 1-3 were all from one gen, but I really can't say much as I haven't seen a whole lot of trailer of Uncharted 4 or at least made comparisons. From what I heard, U4 sounds very promising.

kbozz71883d ago

I agree. Even already released games like Bloodborne and Witcher 3 present a huge roadblock for Tomb Raider.

_-EDMIX-_883d ago (Edited 883d ago )

Not even a little close. I'm sure its going to be a great game, but with Witcher III, MGSV, Halo 5 etc, its just a packed year with a lot of titles that may take that crown.

Forgot about Arkham Knight.

..Fallout 4 DAY 1!

Bloodborne, this year is pretty jam packed. I don't see it getting many, but it has nothing to do with it being a bad game, just up against a whole lot of megaton games.

I could see Rise sitting at around an 85 on metacritic, a totally worthwhile play & one of the highlights of the year, but far from something that would define a year in which we see so many brand new experiences & new installments in franchises that rarely see them like MGS. There's simply not enough there to make Rise seem like more than just TR 1.5 imo, unless they are holding back something huge. By previewer's accounts the weapon upgrade & crafting system is fairly light and by the developer's own statements there are only 2 locations in the entire game. Considering Rise is a quick turnaround & all of the original talent is in place, the story will be decent but nothing mindblowing & the new mechanics and ideas that were fresh in the last title will feel a little dated in this one.

NeMo_HeauxZ883d ago

Horizon has my attention of all the games

Bzone24883d ago

And it comes out next year, doesn't it?

Bigpappy883d ago

I must admit to being wholly impressed by your ability to tell which game will be voted GOTY, with out ever playing them. Some don't even have a playable demo yet and you know. Very impressive stuff to be sure...

-Foxtrot883d ago

Oh please don't twist it.

Look at the articles title

"Why Rise Of The Tomb Raider Is An Overlooked Game Of The Year Contender"

He hasn't played it...but you know what we let him have his opinion.

Spotie883d ago

That's a stupid argument, Bigpappy, in light of the fact that the article's existence is based on claiming a game can be GOTY without ever playing it.

TheGreatGamer883d ago (Edited 883d ago )

Whether it's goty or not I'm glad I'll be enjoying this game regardless

christocolus883d ago

Same here. It's Gears UE, Tomb Raider, Rare replay and Halo 5 warzone for me this Holiday.i'll probably get Fallout 4 once i'm done with TR though.

TheGreatGamer883d ago (Edited 883d ago )

I just hate that I won't have the time to enjoy them all

T-Dawg6883d ago

Because it comes out the same day as Fallout 4...

hello12883d ago

I think they should move it to December 2015

iamnsuperman883d ago

And take on Battlefront after the new star wars movies come out? That would be suicide. I honestly think they should go for an early or even late January release. The last Tomb Raider was good but there are way too many bigger and more popular games coming out this fall.

Jedislayer883d ago

This will definitely not get GOTY, but I do want to play it.

If uncharted 4 were to come out with Tomb Raider, it would smoke it for GOTY.

Loktai883d ago

Absolutely though there are actually other games that would stomp ROTTR into the ground for GOTY, there will I am sure be a few mags/sites that will call it their game of the year as usual but its just not that level of game.

ELE_Victim883d ago

Uncharted basically IS tomb raider..

GusBricker883d ago

It's overlooked? Really?

If its release remains on Nov 10th, I'll be playing it first before Fallout 4.
