Batman: Arkham Knight is now available for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While the PS4 version has already been confirmed to be running at a native resolution of 1080p, specifics regarding the Xbox One version have been vague.
I thought DX12 is suppose to make xbox one games surpass ps4 versions of games. I heard a lot about DX12 for months and how itll nullify ps4s hardware power advantage over xbox ones so im surprised that games are still running at 900p on the Xbox
i bet someone is going to respond to that, that games that use dx12 are only coming near the end of the year
Nonetheless, we already know the benefit of DX12 on X1. According to Project Cars dev, X1 will see a gain of 5-7%. http://www.videogamer.com/x... This value is in line with what Phil Spencer said for over a year (and X1 fans constantly ignore it), namely that "DX12 will not bring massive changes".
you can't make a game and then just add dx12 it doesn't work like that. It takes time to implement it so a lot of 3rd party titles won't use it till back end of next year maybe longer but first party games have obviously been useing it halo 5 and forza 6 both 1080p 60fps
Except from Fable, Motorspot and Halo all of them good looking but none of them looked impresive. Halo had bad textures even Killzone still looks better and its a 2013 title.
@mark_parch Really, after so many years discussing about DX12 without any hard numbers, after Phil's statement, after various dev statements, you still defend it. All of you should start wake to reality and stop put your fate in a mirage. I have a question to you, why nothing was said about DX12 on X1 at E3? It would have been the best moment to prove what DX12 could bring to X1. However, the answer is very simple, they did not show DX12 on X1 because they don't have anything to show. It was mentioned repeatedly by X1 directors, namely no important benefits will be brought by DX12 on X1. As regards Halo 5, do you know that it will have a dynamic resolution ranging between 832x810 and 1920x810 http://m.neogaf.com/showthr... Forza 6 looks like Forza 5 with weather effects, nothing more nothing less. Please, just start accepting FACTS and stop listening to all the internet frauds (like MisterXmedia)
Well if we all know that then why are we still bringing this dx12 up.
If I had a choice between which consoles to get if for I'd get the ps4 version. But I don't have a ps4 so I'm enjoying the game on X1. Go buy the game guys, it's great.
Arkham knight isn't using dx12. There's supposed to be a dx12 patch for it and the witcher 3 later this year. Windows 10 is required for dx12 and its not on Xbox one yet.
Firstly does it really matter what the resolution is ? It's the same experience across all platforms give or take a few pixels. DX12 is just talk until something is shown... plus third party who represent the majority of all games on consoles we don't even know will adopt DX12 straight away. @Letthewookiewin Your telling me resolution actually matters ? Really ? does it determine how good a game is or how great the experience is ? cause you would be dead wrong in that respect. One of the best experiences I've ever had in a game was in standard definition and that wouldn't have been heightened or lowered by its resolution. A good game is a good game regardless of it's resolution. "It mattered then it matters now. People just say it doesn't to save face." No it didn't matter then, only mattered to the people who care about the disparity between X1 and PS4, and it still doesn't matter now. The hardware is what it is, improvements will come in time like they have in every generation. DX12 is just part of that. PS4 will improve too. @Fox Hope your not replying because of difference in opinion earlier. On topic that high quality standard your referring to is the story and character, the gameplay, the performance, the content. That's what is put into a game that makes it good not the lines on the screen that make up the image. So all that being said is pretty much the same on every platform. PC is the best version, if thats what matters to you go get a Gaming PC.
It does matter. Remember DX12 was going to unlock 35% of secret fairy dust in the X1, and everyone was beside themselves about it because X1 was going to surpass PS4.... Then the PCars dev said "just kidding it's only 7% on X1, I was talking about PC..." It mattered then and it matters now. People just say it doesn't to save face. Batman those articles were littered with people boasting about the increase swearing it was the end of Sony. I agree a good game is good. I swear I have an X1, I and many others around here live in reality though, it's just frustrating when people are so quick to turn the tables then when it doesn't work out, "It doesn't matter"
Course it matters, people are paying a lot of money for a console, they want the games they get for it to be the same high standard quality as the ones on other consoles.
@Letthewookiewin This game is not using DX12, get over it.
@because Stop clutching at straws saying does resolution matter. Yeah it does! Don't all the articles about it suggest that people don't like getting the sub full-HD experience. Here's an example. When have amazing graphics made the gameplay suffer? Never. Good gameplay doesn't come at the expense of graphics, we're talking the same game, looking worse on Xbone due to it being a Kinect-based TV tuner when it was designed! Is the witcher 3 going to be a bad game on Xbone? No. Is it going to be better with better graphics? Of course!
If you got a bluray movie, would you rather have it at 1080p or 900p?
'When has amazing graphics made the gameplay suffer?' ...um... a lot. Many games have been too ambitious in graphics and suffered heavily in content e.g forza, driveclub, ryse, the order. Ring any bells?
@Foxtrot It's amazing how everything is worthless if isn't native. Yet for some "unknown reason", the idea of temporal reprojection for Morpheus faking an additional 60 frames per second is somehow smart and worthwhile. Morpheus is DESIGNED for 120hz refresh. That is NATIVE for Morpheus. Yet, everyone is apparently fine with 60hz reprojected to 120hz. But upscaling with software and even hardware scalers themselves, makes 900p a somewhat unplayable build. Funny how the word NATIVE is not even used in Morpheus articles. Something to think about when plunking down hundreds of dollars for a device that's supposedly the be-all-end-all device for consoles.
The Ps4 api have already had DirectX12 features, so when devs start to use DirectX12 they will also use these features. So there is no advantages Xbox one over Ps4 there.
@BecauseImBatman "It's the same experience across all platforms give or take a few pixels." No sir. It seems like the pc version suffers the most. So much for "same experience"
@-Foxtrot Sorry, but anyone who bases their console choice on pixels is an absolute retard. If anyone wanted a lecture on consumerism, they surely wouldn't visit N4G for facts. The fact is, if I presented you with two still images, one at 900p and one at 1080p, YOU couldn't tell me the differene.. and that's a fact. I would also be happy to put this theory to test. I will GLADLY take 900p with less frame drops. Enjoy that choppy gameplay. It must absolutely suck owning only 1 current gen console.
Nobody said it would make it surpass Ps4. Just hopefully help close the gap. 900p isn't noticeable most of the time anyway, and it certainly doesn't make games less fun.
I'm not gonna argue how much it matters. Thats up to each individual person when buying their console. But don't say it's not noticeable. It definitely is to me. And while we can argue dx12, we have to wait for it and see. The real issue isn't resolution, but the ability, and the ability of devs in 1 to 2 yrs to be able to keep pushing these machines.
Agreed with joab777, while resolution does not determine how fun a game is, it IS noticeable. I have MGSV:GZ on both ps4 and xbox one and while they play identically, I can tell a difference in clarity.
@curtis92 Resolution on MGS:GZ is 1080p (PS4) vs 720p (XBO) that's why the difference is so big. The visual difference between 1080p and 900p is small. 900p looks slightly blurry when compared to 1080p. @kainslayer Are you really using youtube videos to make comparisons? The compression on youtube videos is horrible.
i noticed it from a you tube video are you kidding me just look 4 juggies and you will understand ps4>pc>xbone thats for arkham knight so defeated!!!!
Remeber guys, I said MOST of the time. It is noticeable here and there, but is not a deal breaker, especially while a game is running. It is not worth all the fuss and attention people give it. You play batman, I play batman. You play 1080p, I play 900p. You may beat the game, I will get MOST of the achievements. Different strokes for different folks. If you need to be validates by your console then fine, some of us are just happy to be enjoying new games on our favorite console. The wars are pointless. Play what you want. Have fun. Be a gamer. The rest is just preference. Some switch consoles based on performance, others stay loyal to their favorite no matter how big or small the gap in performance is. Game on. Stop hating. Have fun first and foremost.
Lol nice try
http://cdn.meme.am/instance... DX12 did not release on Xbox one yet what you are talking about ?
I'm not talking about DX12 directly in my statement above, I know it's not out Im referring to the fact a lot of people care about resolution and the power of their chosen system. It's a fair statement. The guy above me said it didn't matter. So I replied.
Lol they are a arrogant bunch aren't bunch.
DX12 isn't out yet for PC or xbox
Cinderella, Please stop making fairytale. DX12 is not release yet and isn't on the XB1 version of Arkham Knight . The very first game that have its engine built grounds up with DX12 is Forza 6...1080p, 60fps with 24 cars on track and loads of improvement over Forza 5.
hey just a heads up FORZA 6 is not a dx12 game, I was told that from Dan Greenwalt himself at E3. But he did say when forza does go dx12 expect something absolutely amazing and stunning....mind-blown
Not using DX12.
most of the tech DX12 uses is already in use on the xone and ps4 anyway with the AMD API, there will be minor gains, some gains will show it more clearly than others. The API that is in use on ps4 will improve over time too.
Another clueless person who doesn't know how APIs work. Arkham Knight is not a DX12 game and Windows 10 is required for DX12. XO doesn't have W10 yet.
When is the power of the cloud supposed to be coming? That will change things.
Dx12 isnt out.
If you actually read the articles. Games have to be built from the ground up for DX12 to benefit from. And wtf are you talking about DX12 isnt released yet. Until Windows 10 is out I wouldn't be downplaying it yet. Batmans lead platform is the PS4 not X1.
Even Forza Motorsport 6 is not a DX12 game! This is confirmed, it uses DX11.
@Cindy-rella How about DX12 isn't out yet? No game is utilizing DX12 right now that is available.
The game is not using DX12
Didn't they confirm this before?
No, this is definitely the first time we hear this for Batman, you're probably just used to hearing it for other games, thus the familiarity.
Game looks amazing across all platforms, good job Rocksteady!
We are still running these articles...sheesh
Ill take 900P and that rock solid FPS. Heard the PS4 is having FPS drops.
Actually the PS4 version is quite solid. If your expecting a perfectly locked FPS then you won't get that on either system. http://www.eurogamer.net/ar... This wasn't done with final code but the PS4 versions seems rock solid to me. From the article. "As for frame-rate, aside from one streaming stutter as we're given control, the rest of play is locked at a consistent, smooth 30fps. We get seamless transitions between gameplay and cut-scenes too, which really brings this consistency to light over the breadth of a play session. The only hitch is in fast Batmobile pursuits, where the frame-rate dips to 26fps in one segment. Everything else - from effects-heavy tank combat to swoops across the city with a grappling hook - just cruises along at a clean 30fps. No stuttering, no frame-pacing issues, just a continuous line - as it should be." Happy to have helped. :)
@satyre28 well the game also suffers from frame drops on XBO when driving the bat-mobile. http://www.gamersyde.com/ne...
so far the pc version has the worst performance drops, could be a driver issue but right now it is completely unacceptable.
This never gonna end
Heard pc has it the worst, bad port apparently.
I heard it was that dumb DRM system messing things up. And gameworks affecting AMD cards in very strange ways.
Only 29% positive reviews on Steam. I can confirm this. Even Mortal Kombat X(which had 15GB patch that erased your progress totally) has 63% positive reviews. Warner Bros and PC does not go well together. They need to get their act together, even if most of the profit is on console, does not mean that you can shit out a turd and sell it on PC-
OH MY GOD THIS IS THE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED IN THE HISTORY OF EVER! HOW WILL I EVER ENJOY THIS GAME NOW?!?! God forbid a game be judged based on how well it runs or, you know, how entertaining it is. Nope. It's all about how it looks. Which totally isn't shallow and superficial at all.
aww.. now no one s going to get the Xbox version :( /s
Of course it does. Why break the habit of a lifetime?
To the surprise of no one. PC players have it the worst though from what Im reading.
The only good thing about marketing deals is that we dont get parity. Therefore the best console version of the game. keep going with marketing deals.
Its a great game on consoles...stop counting pixels and play it.
It seems the people who most have an issue with it only being 900p on the X1 are those who wont actually be playing it on the X1....likely because they dont even own an X1. For me, having both consoles, I dont know which version I will get. My PS4 is set up on my second TV which is only native 720p anyway. When I game on my PS4 I have no less fun just because its in 720p. However, what I find completely unacceptable this gen is we still have frame rate drops, jaggies and screen tearing on both consoles!
Not surprising, a lot of games recently have been 900p for xbox. Witcher 3 900p Battlefield Hardline: 720p Mortal Kombat: 900p
close to 50% pixel difference ps4 is the definite console version by a country mile
Damnit!! Not this again!! Here I am enjoying this game just like I was Mortal Kombat X a month or so ago and now this BOMB!!!. Suddenly the game just isn't worth playing anymore. I know I can't see the 180 missing progressive lines but I just know they are not there now. How will I ever play this game again????? AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!....or not.
At least both console versions run properly.
The sad silly truth is that if the roles were reversed all the xbox fanboys would talk about how much the ps4 sucks, and there is nothing they can do to deny that. This is the sad state of gamers today, we should be united as gamers for the benefit of every one of us, not picking which corporation we enjoy getting screwed more from and defending them and every move they make. grow up people come on.
The roles were reversed ~ last gen with all the EuroGamer/Lens of Truth (lies that is) Face-Offs & VS articles that came out (more than 30 that I remember on just EG alone) but the difference there was that Xbox "supporters" made the biggest deal about a truly negligible resolution difference in pixels. Things like 640p vs 636p or 600p vs 540p that amounted to single to low double digit percentage differences, whereas this gen it's switched but with a MUCH larger difference (to the tune of 50-100% or higher pixel density #'s) that is truly noticeable with the naked eye compared to a few hundred pixels counting on a still frame. And now the ones who screamed at the top of their lungs last gen are crying "resolution doesn't matter" this time around. It's something of a "take your medicine" kind of thing where the old saying applies ~ "What goes around comes around" albeit with A WHOLE LOT more clarity that can't be so easily refuted/argued. (Edit ~ Oh forgot to add I marked agree with you)
