Did Microsoft choose the wrong stage demo for Rise of the Tomb Raider at E3?

Dealspwn: Well, that's more like it Microsoft and Square-Enix! The new extended gameplay demo of Rise of the Tomb Raider is a considerable improvement over the arguably dull E3 2015 appearance. So much so, it's hard to imagine why Microsoft went for the video they did for their on-stage gameplay reveal over the new one released over the weekend.

Oh yes. Yes they did. I'm still amazed that they dropped such a limp stage demo for one of their biggest exclusives.

I agree, you could probably find a section in the reboot thats near identical just without snow. Climb, cliff breaks, fall, climb, fall again, jump on unusually high wooden scaffolding, sliding, new area. Show us something new.

As mundane as it was, it was still better than Halo 5. Notice how no one has mentioned Halo 5's campaign debut. That thing sucked. Any other game would have been slammed for sucking so hard. I think they are bad at choosing what to show. Then again, I think after Doom and Fallout 4, it was really hard for any standard FPS to really stand out. So yes I put Tomb Raider above Halo 5 as far as E3 goes.

@Eonjay
Not only Halo 5...Gears 4 didn't look impressive at all as well. Both didn't even remotely live up to the hype. No one wrote about it.

@kraenk12

You know the saying... "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all"
Especially if it has Halo or gears in the title ;-)

But I agree, the new TR looks way better than both of those other AAA titles.

And sony did the same with UC4 where the best footage was chopped of the end of that demo, where's the story about that?

LifeInNZ820d ago

Yeah, but what they showed was still pretty impressive.

tribaltattsmale820d ago

^^^^^^^^^^^^ I don't know what you're talking about ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The scene getting away in the car was awesome and in the demo of Sony's conference.

Brotard820d ago

Did you not see how alive the environment was in uncharted though? Plus Lara is really the only character with... character in tomb raider games. uncharted is just as much characters as gameplay but this seems to have finally nailed both

Zeref820d ago (Edited 820d ago )

Best trailer was Ghost Recon tbh.

None of the other popular franchises had impressive trailers. But the point is we got to see gameplay.

it's always have to be competition for you huh?
Why don't you make the article yourself then..

I agree, they should have gone with the demo released over the weekend.lets hope they have a more interesting demo at Gamescom.

Gunstar75820d ago

They showed a linear section that looked pretty and was like a movie trailer. It certainly sparked my interest, bit didn't really give much gameplay away.

UC4 did the same. Linear jeep section. Drive a bit, jump, armoured vehicle appears, vear off down a dirt track to avoid it's fire. And repeat. And repeat. And repeat.

UnHoly_One820d ago

I agree.

UC4 looked really good but that driving section went on doing the same thing for WAY too long.

The truck showed up again! There is another fork in the road! Again. And again. And again.

Army_of_Darkness820d ago

At least Uncharted 4 had route options... again. and again ;-)

UnHoly_One820d ago

Was it really an option, when you had two choices, and one of them was to follow the truck and get shot up?

I'm not trying to defend the Tomb Raider demo, by the way. I honestly didn't even watch it that close because I'm not a Tomb Raider fan.

I was just commenting on that one particular part of the UC4 trailer that seemed to go on longer than necessary.

Zeref820d ago

Funny how as soon as you mention how Uncharted 4 trailer looked just as unimpressive you immediately get a barrage of disagrees lol.

Roronoa0411820d ago

because it didn't look unimpressive… it looked amazing. From shooting and hand to hand combat, platforming and jumping off of buildings to driving and choosing your own path. Uncharted had one of the best showings at E3 hands down and most news outlets and gamers agree. I don't see anyone of credibility saying the uncharted trailer was unimpressive.

styferion820d ago

because they disagree, duh, the options are called agree/disagree not false/true for a reason..

Blues Cowboy820d ago

Oh stop it, strawman. Pointing out that a company screwed up doesn't make you a 'hater' and certainly doesn't make your opinion any less valid.
