You might think that the xbox elite controller is expensive. However, it doesn't seem expensive when compared to other custom controllers like scuf ...
$150 is expensive for a controller. No matter how "pro" it is. These controllers are mad really cheap. A regular controller is made for like $10-$15. So double that for this controller and its $20-$30 cost to make it, best case scenario.
You are right but considering considering the price trend and other alternates its not expensive ... Not comparatively atleast
It is less expensive than custom controllers yes, but it is still expensive.
sorry but its NICHE and EXPENSIVE, no matter how you want to spin it.
How is this even an argument? Scuf controllers are freaking expensive as well. How does comparing them magically make the Microsoft controller NOT expensive?
It's more than expensive, it's a complete rip-off. If only it had the technology to back it's price, it doesn't.
Even if they were priced at $1000 we would still have these articles. People just like to damage control for Microsoft
I've said it before, but I'll say it again, its a kick in the teeth to those that don't have one as Microsoft is saying yeah or standard controller is crap if your a real gamer you'll need to buy this controller.
Title says Xbox pro controller isn't expensive....then proceeds to compare it to other pro controllers that have a higher price tag. By that method a Lamborghini is cheap when compared to Bentleys...smdh...
Even getting paid $15/hr, you still have to work 10 whole hours to afford it. It is an absurdly expensive controller.
Context is always important when you say something is expensive; Is Xbox 1 expensive?, Is ps4 expensive?...I've heard many casuals at work who only play stuff like Angry Birds, yet own every new $600 iPhone that comes out say so...So it depends on who you ask. -Is it expensive YES, but compared to the target market NO. -Why even ask the average gamer is it expensive when on Microsofts own page the first thing they talk about is making a controller for "pro-level players"? http://www.xbox.com/en-US/x... -It's like asking a average golfer or worse someone who golfs occasionally for fun do you think custom golf clubs are expensive?= YES, of course they do, but a pro golfer won't settle for anything less, meaning its expensive but worth every penny. Example: "The Golf Channel, Tiger Woods was asked what he noticed the most about the amateurs he plays with in pro-am events. His response was that he sees very few golfers who are ever custom fit with clubs that could accent the positive things they do in their swings and reduce some of the effects of the chronic mistakes they make." http://wishongolf.com/about... -Pro players will appreciate Microsoft offering a excellent pro controller with a very reasonable price tag. -The X1 Elite controller could only be classified as expensive if it cost more than other products in its targeted market in other words the most expensive or among the most expensive pro level controllers. Is it expensive to most here, including me Yeah but so what, its an irrelevant question because its NOT for most gamers= Don't buy it, I will however because I consider it a gaming luxury item, and I love to own 1 awesome custom controller.
@4Show I don't think anyone could have said it better. Perfection
lol, its not expensive because its comparable to the price of another expensive controller.. But I guess theres a market so what ever.
I have to agree here - for $150 you can buy two regular controllers or a few games.
so it's simply don't buy the fucking thing, regardless they will sell like hotcakes and they are the best controller on the market right now, i have seen controllers sell for way more looking at you scuffs...
It's expensive because of what it adds. That's why it's pro. Just like there are newer/expensive versions of washing machines, lawn mowers, TVs and etc. You could say the same thing about gaming keyboards/mouses as well. This controller is not made cheap. Doubling the manufacturing price doesn't make since when it adds so much more and is made with better material (just like the products I mentioned above). Here is a dev video of the controller from MS themselves about how it's made and what it adds from the original: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
That's the choice you get to make. For me it doesn't make sense but for serious gamers it's another option. The price is justified imo.
I think it is expensive too considering it is almost 1/2 price of the console itself =/
Well... It is the other half of the console no? Can't really play with out it... It is too expensive tho... I would love one but I don't think I would drop 150 for it..
There are other costs involved besides just making the controllers. They have to pay for shipment. They have to pay the people's salary who make them. And those who test them in labs. All that costs money. And they have to make a profit to keep it on the market. You think all they do is throw a controller together and put a price tag on it? Sure it's expensive but the price is fair.
Don't forget R&D. Also it's a niche item, so they'd have to allow for any unsold items
It is not only the manufacturing cost that is factored into these. It is also the investment of design, prototyping and after-support etc that makes these cost a lot. It is for a smaller market so it has to make enough on each to recoup the cost. Once that is done, then the cost will be reduced. If you compare it to scuf or any other competitors, it is very well priced. I want one, but waiting for a sale. I will [email protected] online without it!
Your cost are false, before you made a controller you need to have an engineering team, design it, make Q&A, test different ideas and a lot more things to make it happen and go to store.
Had MS been smart and sold these for $120 under the cost of Scuff controllers. They would have caught more attention and probably sold more to NOT just previous scuff owners. I was a little taken back that they cost more then them.
All controllers are a rip off anyway. 150 is a joke. 60 quid for the standard Ps4/Xb1 is a joke ffs haha
I agree that I think it is expensive as I was expecting it to be in teh $80 to $100 range. To play devil's advocate for a minute though I think you are only looking at the cost of the materials when looking at the price of the product. Sure it may only cost $30 to make but you also have to factor in the R&D costs as well as marketing. They have to make that money back as well.
My scuf was cheaper. Expected it to be 75$ at most.
Yes it is expensive.
For 100, I would have definitely given it more than a thought. 150? Controllers never depreciate in price do they? Eh, when pigs have wings...
http://bulk2.destructoid.co... Speak of the porcavian and he shall appear.
with $150 you can buy GPU more powerful than xone itself
You still wouldn't have an Elite Controller.
Probably, but last I checked a GPU alone didn't play anything.
$150 is expensive, if you have paid more for a controller, you have bought a VERY EXPENSIVE CONTROLLER.
Well that's why its optional and people like u can buy the regular controller. Apple products are expensive too but I still buy them becuase I like them.
Paid for my elite controller yesterday!!
When it is almost half the price of what you pay for the console itself, i'd call that pretty expensive. I want one, but I'm not paying $150 for it
You mean, Pretty Dayumm Expensive, right? lol :D I fully agree with you. I really want one of these, but not for 150. That's horse****.
Agree, does the thing even come with a built in battery or do you need to buy those too?
How did you come this conclusion? A headline? They will sell more Xbox Ones than Elite controllers over the life of the product. MS will be able to recoup R&D costs on the Xbox One much more quickly than the new controller. Also, manufactures will take losses on consoles for market penetration. Well, at least you have an option to get a controller that is priced at the percentage you are willing to pay for in comparison to its attached console.
It is expensive but these type of controllers are, SCUF controllers are the same price.
It's way too expensive! Some people here say that they won't pay over 150$ for Oculous\Morpheous but then say that they can't wait to buy this controller... 150$ it's way too expensive for a controller. Actually I think the normal controllers are overpriced too.
I'll pay +400 for VR when I know the content is worth it, but not this controller. I was excited as hell when I first seen it too. I really want one. Within the next year, me or my brother will be getting an X1 soooo this controller made me want to get one even if my brother got an X1 and much sooner, as well.
That is why it is PRO. A Ferrari is expensive and a Hyundai is cheap...but..but..they both cars. A Lea Paul Guitar is expensive yet a Yamaha guitar is cheap. The ASTRO A50 and A40 cost $300 and $250 respectively but a set of turtle Beach can be had for like $50-$100 but the pros at MLG event all chooses the more expensive ASTRO brand. This controller is for the die hard gamers and not for the average consumer just like why people still buy super edition of games for like 100 plus dollars.
I play competitively and would consider myself an hardcore gamer, but this controller is totally unnecessary. Only see CoD players buying this and talking crap over the mic on how theyre superior in skill cuz they spent $150
That's cool but go to any *professional competitive event and what is evident unless it's specifically not allowed in the rules especially for FPS games like Halo or COD and the vast majority if not all players will be using a custom controller. Now lets assume you were 1 of 100 competing at this event and had a standard controller that's fine, you might even win depending on your skill but that still does not change the FACT that most pro's prefer a custom professional level controller.
Xbox one elite controller Or Xbox one standard controller, Official xbox one headset, Official Xbox One Digital TV Tuner, Official Xbox One Media Remote and game. So yes it is expensive.
Pre ordered two of them plus Halo 5 Tomb raider Gears ultimate Forza 6
Ok dude congrats you can afford it so easily. But its still expensive as hell.
I don't believe a word of it. I honestly don't think you even have an XB1. I have yet to see anything in ANY of your comments that makes me think you follow through with or actually believe anything you say. I don't believe you're going to get two Elite controllers. I don't even believe you have an XB1. When do you ever comment on the actual content of a game? Everything you say is all about just buying something Xbox, or how that thing is or will be the best ever. There are never any facts, never any links. Just propaganda.
I don't even see what makes it so much better than a regular controller to be honest. Why would i buy this when i can pay less for a controller that would do the exact same thing ?
Good article showing what the Elite controller does differently from the standard one. http://www.techradar.com/re...
@SegaGamer Dude, put down the dreamcast controller, read the above link. While I personally will never buy this unless heavily discounted, the benefits this provides for a pro gamer are obvious to see. Unless you're trying to troll? I appreciate Sega too much to assume that of you though.
I read it and i still don't see why i should spend so much money on it. It's not going to give me any advantages over the Xbox One controller we already have.
Yes it is stop talking nonsense
It is pretty pricey, that being said if I do buy this controller I will be the only one touching it, nobody else.
I will be picking one up because it looks great, this is also a nice way for Microsoft to make some money from the pc market especially as we all know pc gamers like buying elite stuff.
As opposed to using kb+m? LOL you're delusional!
Look...shelling out a $150 for any peripheral or game should be considered expensive. This controller is expensive. That said, if you are in a market for a pro level controller like this then this controller would be on the lower end price spectrum.
I'm getting one for my pc and like Starelite said no one will be playing with this controller!!!
Just don't buy it , just that simple. If u feel better buying a regular controller every six months to a year because u think that's cheaper go right ahead. BTW steal will always last longer than plastic, so here take my 150.
You have to replace your Xbox controller every 6 months? Wtf are you doing to those things??
Hu...? What part of the control has steal in it???
Perhaps he meant stealing will outlast (plastic)credit cards? If so I definitely agree /s
I didn't know steal could be a part of a controller. Better keep it away from the good stuff. Might not be there when you wake up.
Pass! By the way, why N4G still have comment adding box on bottom? That make me go down a long...
It IS expensive. That's like saying a $60,000 car isn't expensive because there are $500,000 cars out there. That's like saying a million dollar home isn't expensive because there are 100 million dollar homes. They could also make the regular controller better, they just have no incentive to do so, in fact now that they have the $150 controller, they have even less incentive to do so. Also I'm wary of all those snap on parts. If anything, I think these things eventually will break or even slip off. Those back button/triggers and the removable thumbsticks don't look high quality to me. So that quality people think they are getting, is likely only to apply to SOME of the controller, other parts of the controller look much more breakable then the regular controller.
