We need to talk about Final Fantasy VII

From GamesReviews:
"So there it is. The news that many of us have been waiting for since 1997. 18 long years. Square Enix announced at E3 2015 that we are finally getting a Final Fantasy VII remake. A proper one. Not just updated graphics or shiny new cutscenes, but a full remake with new gameplay and, so we are told, new story elements to boot. Many key members of the original Square Enix (then known as Squaresoft) team are back on the project that sold over 11 million copies worldwide the first time around, and the internet is currently at breaking point from the excitement of it all."

"Gaming has come so far since then it’s difficult to appreciate just how impressive it all was."

Other than graphically, it's come far in the WRONG DIRECTION!

pompombrum1190d ago (Edited 1190d ago )

Ever think as age goes by when we have more generations of gamers, they'll all say the same too? Like in 15years from now, the current teenagers of today will be blasting COD 50 and ranting about how great Black Ops 3 was and how they were the glory days?

WeAreLegion1190d ago

I don't think so. I think they'll be talking about Modern Warfare 1/2 more, since those were good.

Regardless, people always talk about the glory days, ignoring the great things that pop up with the bad things. Nostalgia.

Summons751190d ago

Gameplay has become smoother, stories have been taken more seriously, we have almost a mastery over 3d modeling now, sound is far better, games have become is that the wrong direction?

kalkano1190d ago

How many genres exist in the AAA space? How many mid-tier games are there? Why do gaming publishers treat their customers like "the enemy"?

If this is truly how you feel then quit gaming.

Ah, but see, there's the problem. You and people like you will complain about all these devs being greedy and so on and so forth, yet you're still playing their games.

Personally, i find some of the DLC issues, such as price, to be somewhat justified. But then i remember that the price of games hasn't gone up since the very beginning of last gen....close to 10 years. The devs need to make up that money somewhere as it costs a lot more to make games now then it did 10 years ago. Not to mention the consoles themselves are cheaper than last gen.

So honestly, i don't like all the DLC that has become the industry norm, yet its the price to pay for my favorite hobby.

Personally, i'm happy with where games are these days.

kalkano1190d ago

I'll stop you after your third sentence. No we're not. That's why there's a retro gaming boom.

I've never had more disposable income than I do now. Yet, I've never spent less on gaming than I do now. And, it's not a time problem. I play JRPG after JRPG, but they're all older games.

I don't WANT to play nothing but older games, but I don't have much choice.

Makes you wonder of they will add to the new FF7.

The storylines for before and after FF7 will get some sort of input or if they will change anything major to the plot.

Good time to be a gamer.

SugarSoSweet1190d ago

I hope they don't change anything major I like my FF7 story the way it is!

Kyizen1190d ago

Um Random battles would be so awful to stay in, meanwhile the whole Materia thing was amazing and still would be. I think they understand what should go and stay...I hope.

kalkano1190d ago

Yeah, they can remove the random battles, as long as the core of the battle system remains.

audiocafe1191d ago

pffft, probably 2019 knowing Square.

Brewski0071190d ago

PS5 Launch Title :P

I'm just glad of its announcement so far. We'll have to wait for winter to hear more I guess.

Hold_It1190d ago

Probably 2017. It's the 20th Anniversary of FF7.

Kurisu1190d ago (Edited 1190d ago )

Fingers and toes crossed.

A remake of this scale would require a lot of time and effort. I'm sure SE said at one point that a remake would take about 10 years if they did it. How long ago was that PS3 tech demo? It was at E3 2005. If they've secretly been working on that build since then then 2017 could be a real possibility.

EDIT @ TheOne

Yep, it could take that long! :D

TheOneWhoIsTornApart1190d ago (Edited 1190d ago )

It isn't going to take ten years man lol. The game has been confirmed to have been in developement for that last year and a half. That may be helpful to people who do not yet know that.

[email protected]: Yes I know they said that at one point but that was for last gen consoles and is honestly completely ridiculous to even believe. Yes this game is going to be massive and they said they are going for photo realistic graphics but ten years is an exaggeration and I don't believe Kitase was even serious about that.

NoctisPendragon1190d ago

No they did start a year ago max , the actual FF VII team was working on FF XV before .

"So there it is. The news that many of us have been waiting for since 1997"

Many of use have been waiting for a remake the same year it was originally released?

Spotie1190d ago

Some gamers are a little TOO forward thinking, it seems.

SouljAx3601190d ago

That was the first WTF I noticed in the article. LoL

MWH1190d ago
