Apparently, the developers at id Software don't view DOOM as a horror game. They want it to be a "visceral action" title.
That's a negative I've only played the 3rd game. Idk I haven't even played it yet So im stop judging it
Doom was always a visceral action game. It had horror elements, but overall it was mostly action.
Exactly, it appears DOOM is returning to its roots. I am not mad at this.
Good to know. I've never been a huge fan of horror stuff and skipped Doom 3
Exactly, the original was a bit creepy in places but I dont think it was ever a horror game. Doom 3 put much more focus on it than the originals so I'm looking forward to it I just hope it doesnt go overkill on the casual side and end up like Bulletstorm or something.
I hope that it resembles more the second than the third.
Third one was great graphically, but the rest was just okay.
I love all the DOOM games. From what I've seen so far of the new DOOM I'm going to love that one too. I have to say though I'm not too sure about the finishers, I like them but I think I'd prefer it if the enemies didn't light up with a white highlight, I hope there's an option to disable that as I think it gives the game too much of an arcadey look. Just give enemies a distinct animation or sound to let us know they are ready for a finisher.
They say this like Doom, Doom 2, and Final Doom weren't all straight action games. Doom 3 tried to go the horror route, and it was good for what it was, but it didn't feel like Doom. This game looks awesome.
Bring it. Old school Doom rocks.
Indeed! That map editor looked awesome, too.
yes, reminds me of timesplitters 2 map maker
I really liked what I saw of Doom. Looked like good, oldschool mindless killing. Theres nothing wrong with that if its done right, in fact in this day and age, its refreshing. Like turning a pair of underpants insideout, what old, is new again.
Yep, the game looked cool like the other side of the pillow.
Just look at what going this route did for Wolfenstein! Thats still one of my favorite games so far this gen.
Hmmm, I didnt really get into that, but I didnt have so much playtime or fond memories of the original as I do with Doom. Anyway, I know it was a great game and widely praised. Heres hoping this can do that too, without people knocking it because its an old action dinosaur. Thats fine cos its not trying to be something its not. It only matters if it succeeds at being what its trying to be.
can't it be both
Exactly. But I admit I'm biased towards Doom 3. That one had the perfect balance between suspense and action, IMHO.
if you try appealing to everyone, you end you appeasing no one
Let's sing the doom song?
too gory for my tastes
After seeing Killing Floor 2, I don't know if Doom 4 needs to step it up a bit. Without a doubt both look ace, but with Doom 4's budget I kinda expect everything to be bigger, badder and better!
Good. Doom 3 was okay, but it dragged on too long. The expansion was awesome though.
Feels like after seeing the demo, i've experienced the entire game.
And that's how it supposed to be. ACTION.
