Final Fantasy VII Remake Development Started Before December 2014

With the Final Fantasy VII Remake on PlayStation 4 making “considerable progress” in its development, Game Director Tetsuya Nomura revealed in a roundtable attended by Eurogamer that the remake actually started development before the FF7 PC port was announced in December 2014

I think it started shortly after Nomura left FFXV production.

I just hope he finishes Kingdom Hearts 3 first lol. I dont want to wait for 2020 to play it.

That's just unrealistic. Expect 15 and KH3 to drop first. Remember how long it took them just to remaster FFX? More like 2018 at the earliest.

do they not have seperate teams making those games? kh3 had gameplay so that could be out 2016 and maybe summer 2017 for ff7 then , one can hope haha

Square Enix has domestic subsidiaries all over the globe outside of acquired devs like Eidos, IO, and Crystal Dynamic, but the question lies on how big and how many teams they have working at each studio.

If I'm not mistaken, Square Enix is the only major Japanese game publisher who doesn't publish arcade cabinets, which is the source income for their competitors Capcom, Namco Bandai, and Sega

2017 will be 20th year anniversary for FF7.

I would think that Square will work tooth and nail to get it out during that year.

That is very likely. It is even a Tuesday which is the general release day for games today. Would be a perfect way to kick off that day and honestly I could wait until then.

Yeah I'm also wondering what everyone else here is on. They already said KH3 was pretty early in development and we shouldn't expect that game until 2017 since he just transferred over to it.

between ff15 and KH 3, we're not seeing this game next year. We're not seeing it the year after. 2018 at best. Which is a shame because SE needs to put the pedal to the metal and get this game out.

There are plenty of consoles out, and games are starting to sell better on next gen platforms than anywhere else. The case for japanese devs to hold back their games until "the install base is big enough" is null at this point. We're here, we're ready, and we're impatient. Let us give you our money.

KH3 is making steady progress! Square Enoch Osaka is doing a fantastic job... And square just opened a new studio in Tokyo... I'm pretty sure they are the ones handling this with the guidance of Nomura, Kitase and Nojima and other senior members of the FF team.

This is going to be huge and likely release the same day FF7 graced the first PS, 20 years later
