Daniel from Press Start Australia got to see a behind closed doors demo of Rise of the Tomb Raider
"This is when I saw the biggest change to Rise of the Tomb Raider’s combat—an increased emphasis on verticality and environment navigation. Lara is now able to climb up trees and scale other objects in her environment in a manner reminiscent of the Assassin’s Creed series, which is to say that doing so is fast and fluid. By quietly making her way up a tree and across several nearby branches, Lara was able to stealthily move into a more advantageous position with better sightlines. Lara fires an arrow away from the group of gunmen, drawing one away from the pack of four. While the others aren’t looking, she fires a single arrow into the lone merc, killing him instantly." This sounds awesome. The whole preview does, actually. I loved the previous Tomb Raider reboot and it seems they are evolving this one in all the right ways. I also thought it looked simply amazing at E3. A few other things that got my attention: "Able to successfully elude the bear the second time around, Lara emerged out onto a clearing in the wilderness. High atop a cliff overlooking a snow-covered valley, I was able to understand just how massive in scope Rise of the Tomb Raider really is— environments are several times larger than any of those seen in 2013’s Tomb Raider, and they’re full of tons of things to do and experience" "All said, I came away very impressed with Rise of the Tomb Raider. From its gorgeous visuals to its new crafting system, and from its intense, high-octane combat to its wide open environments that encourage exploration and investigation, Rise of the Tomb Raider is shaping up nicely."
i'd like to see more actual tomb's and puzzle solving than shooting action and linear gameplay this time.
It sounds as though that's exactly what they're going for.
Can't wait to play this. There is no collector's edition for it?!
Surely there is... The reboot got one (had a 'survival' tin, a Lara action figure, an art book, a soundtrack and some dlc guns/skins), but they're probably planning a special reveal for RotTR's edition. I reckon it'll include something substantial, like a proper chunk of story dlc... something to help pay for the exclusivity deal. Whatever happens, I'm getting it day 1... I was tempted to get Fallout 4 on the same day, but Bethesda's history of buggy launches has convinced me to hold off for a bit.
Nice preview. Day one.
Definitely one of my most anticipated games for the remainder of this year. Probably number one, not counting Arkham Knight since it's about to release.
