Final Fantasy VII Is Not An Easy Remake According To Director Tetsuya Nomura

Speaking with Dengeki Online, director Tetsuya Nomura suggested the remake will be more than just pretty graphics.

“We can’t talk about any further details, but it won’t be a simple remake,” Nomura said. “Even if we were only making the graphics prettier for a next-generation machine, I don’t think it would exceed the original version. If that were the case, the original International version will be available on PlayStation 4, so you could just play that and be done.

This games is going to look beautiful with the power of Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Glad to see this gem coming to multiple platforms. Personally I am getting this on Xbox One. Just like I am getting Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4.

xReDeMpTiOnx1101d ago

Square confirmed on their twitter it's ps4 and pc only. Plus why would the remake appear on xbox when the remaster is ps4 and pc only? Also scea must have publishing rights that date back to ff7 initial release.

PlayableGamez1101d ago

Source that it's not coming to Xbox One? I went to Squares and Final Fantasy official Twitter accounts and found no such announcement.

joab7771101d ago

Pretty sure remake is coming to Xbox at some point. Bit I played it on PS all those yrs ago, why change now?

fei-hung1101d ago

Can anyone post a link to the tweet for this please.

starrman19851101d ago

I was fairly sure it was coming first to Playstation 4!

NoctisPendragon1101d ago

Do you have a link ? SE did never ever talk about a PC version i think .

Eiyuuou1101d ago

If it that were the case I'm pretty sure all the news sites would be talking about it. Not that I care either way. I don't even own an XBox.

It is definitely gonna be great, but very difficult indeed. Just the love and expectations create alot of pressure. Add in the fact that it's old and hasn't aged well...and I don't envy this team at all.

Somnipotent1101d ago

Quit your trolling. Square Enix confirmed timed exclusive release for PS4 and eventually PC, via Twitter. Absolutely no reference to any Xbox release. With something of this nature, I highly doubt they'd keep that under wraps.

curtis921101d ago

Everyone's so excited for this... this is a 2018 game at the EARLIEST.

ashcroft1101d ago

2017 Would be a better estimate as it would be on it's 20th anniversary.

Godmars2901101d ago (Edited 1101d ago )

Because releasing it on a specific time is better than putting it out when its actually finished and working properly?

ashcroft1099d ago (Edited 1099d ago )

@Godmars290

No because that's how the industry works. They've been working on it far longer than you think. They didn't just throw in a trailer at the same time they started working on it.

When a company shows that much, it means they had the time to do it.

Otherwise, it would have been the FF 7 logo followed by remake and that's it. Also...these last two generations have shown, they would rush out a game and patch it later, than take time to iron out all the potential issues.

KakashiHotake1101d ago (Edited 1101d ago )

Honestly people have waited this long so what's a couple more years. Man people have been waiting for over 17 years now so they better take there time and do it right. Just the confirmation that it's in the works is enough for most people.

Timesplitter141101d ago (Edited 1101d ago )

true,

at the Square Enix conference, the guy said development on FF7 has only just started RIGHT NOW, and that CG teaser is the only thing they have made so far.

This is gonna take a looooonnnnnnnnng time

But at least they already have whatever engine FF15 is running on, so there's that

TheOneWhoIsTornApart1101d ago

NO it has been in developement longer than that. Shinji Hashinmoto said at the Square press conference that it was in developement before last years Playstation 20th anneversary event.

ashcroft1099d ago

Actually they started early last year. The character models they're using is from advent children, so that cuts some significant time.

Many are freaking out over the time it's going to take getting released because of FF15 and last guardian.

But FF15 was delayed solely because they didn't have the ressources to do what they wanted so they instead dropped everything and worked on the ps4.

PS4's development time is far easier than on PS3 and will allow you to do more in less time.

September 2017 is enough time on a x86 platform...I'm more worried about how it turns out as opposed to it's release date.

DragonKnight1101d ago

Who wants it to exceed the original version Nomura? We don't want a remake because we want you to change the original. We want a remake to match the original and look as good as if it were made today.

And really, with all the versions of the original that are already out, you should scrap the port to PS4 now that the remake is happening. We don't need it, we didn't want it, and if your reasoning for not making the remake just like the game is because of the port, then all the more reason to get rid of the port.

I mean, why call it a remake if you're already planning on changing things? Why not just make a sequel with updated graphics that won't have any expectations attached to it? You had to know what we wanted when we said we wanted FFVII to be remade, and it wasn't you FFXIII'ing it up.

ashcroft1101d ago

as long as they don't change the ATB system to FF13 style and it's auto-battle crap.

The materia system was one of the best ones, they better keep it as is.

The game could use a bit of refining when it comes to the storyline. Maybe include multiple branches to the game.

Save Aerith, Sephiroth joins you to rid of Genesis, after he finds out about Lucretia.

There are ways this can end up pretty good, but I'm also afraid that Square-enix will do what it has been doing the past decade and screw things up.

Godmars2901101d ago

Would mind if they included Chrono Trigger like combos. Limit break combos.

But I see such happening with turn based combat.

DragonKnight1101d ago

That could be interesting. I don't believe there has been an FF game with combos like that. I'd be ok with that. And it wouldn't necessarily have to be turn based for that either. Dragon's Dogma has a basic combo system where you could have a Warrior pawn launch a Strider or Assassin into the air for combo moves. There's probably some method of implementing it.

Eiyuuou1101d ago

Imagine what they can do with the animations when they use turn based combat? I smell potential!

Godmars2901101d ago

Untapped potential since I doubt they'll ever do it. Especially with this remake.

343_Guilty_Spark1101d ago

Sounds like we have not be seeing this game for quite a while. I'm thinking mid 2017 at the earliest.

xReDeMpTiOnx1101d ago

Also my guess would be that this would be released on their 20th anniversary, I mean when is a better time for it?

Godmars2901101d ago

When its finished. Wont come out in need of patches from day one to six months later.
