GR8 DB8: Is Steam Too Powerful?

It’s high time we consumers of electronic timewasters take a step back, remove our nostalgia blinders, and face the truth: the Valve Software we knew and loved died long ago. The innovation, ambition and technological know-how that was once used to create masterpieces like Half-Life and Portal are now used to maximize profits from microtransactions and nefariously gamify the simple act of spending money. Nowhere is this bastardization more visible than Steam, once the cutting-edge of online game retailers, now a glorified swap meet. Steam will sell you unplayable, half-finished abandonware at the smallest possible profit margin for the developer, then sell you pretend cards for said abandonware that can be redeemed for piss jar emoticons and coupons for Pixel Piracy.
