Update: PlanetSide 2 won't be locked at 30FPS on PS4 after all

GameZone: "Earlier this year, Daybreak Game Company confirmed that PlanetSide 2 would run at 30 frames per second on PlayStation 4. That no longer appears to be the case, as we've received updated word from Daybreak Game Company confirming that PlanetSide 2 could "and probably will" run at a much higher frame rate."

30 FPS is fine. It's more than fine actually.

MOST of our favorite games were at 30 FPS.

xxxsiegezzz1130d ago

30 fps is NOT more than fine. It's okay in most games, but it's not a good thing.

Just give the option to lock. fluctuating frames are more disgusting and frustrating.

Moldiver1133d ago (Edited 1133d ago )

Agreed, but hovering between 58-60FPS is still good. The REAL test is how it fair in the wild when the servers are populated.that might bring it right down to a slide show, but who knows?

That said I wouldnt want to play a 30FPS shooter online.

That's not what he means. Playing at 60fps then all of a sudden you drop to 18fps because the frame rate is unlocked. At the very least the game has to run smooth if you're pushing 60fps.

Moldiver1133d ago

I know what he meant but I dint want to be the one that says it. Was trying to be optimistic for PS gamers sakes. Im primarily an xbox guy btw , so if Said what you said I would be arguing with a long list of people right now! The usual suspects

Destiny is a 30fps shooter and it plays great. I don't think 30fps is the "kiss of death" that so many make it out to be.

If only consoles were somehow able to adopt G-sync like PC. Would make frame-rate issue on them completely irrelevant. Oh well..

They could probably adopt AMDs FreeSync technology but regardless I'm not buying a overpriced monitor for gaming when I like gaming on a big screen instead.

@Frame-rate Lock Option

Every game I have seen with the option to lock the frame-rate did not change the fact that the frame-rate is fluctuating. I still notice lag with locks and without. So unless they aimed to get a perfectly smooth 30fps/60fps experience it's going to have noticeable drops regardless of being unlocked or locked. Only thing is a game being unlocked and fluctuating looks smoother then when you lock this fluctuating frame-rate down to 30fps which makes it look less smooth and the controls feel worse.

Sir_Simba1133d ago (Edited 1133d ago )

Freesync is the amd equivalent but I'm not sure if they need to update the consoles for it to work or if you can just buy a freesync monitor and it works auto.
Most games on consoles are usually locked so this is not needed much.

I hope they made tv with (g-sync-free sync) soon

FinalFantasyFanatic1132d ago (Edited 1132d ago )

Free Sync/G-Sync would be nice but I don't think we'll see it on TVs. If we did it would more likely be Free Sync over HDMI (I'm pretty sure they recently got it working over HDMI), since it's not locked down like G-Sync is. Surely an online update for TV/Consoles could be possible in most cases (it's mostly on the software side of things as far as I'm aware, whereas G-Sync is more defendant on the timer module in the monitor/tv). Alternatively there are plenty of large 4K monitors coming out that are almost as big as TVs and they're starting to get Free Sync/G-Sync intergrated into them.
