Companies Hiking Prices To Artificially Incentivize Steam Summer Sale

GG3 writes: "On the cusp of the big Steam summer sale, a lot of company activity has seen sudden price hikes for products. Several games have gone up in price, in order to make their discounts seem artificially higher, in essence misleading their customers."

Update:

More data provided in ongoing thread, including the blow-back from GTA V's bundled deal.

The story is too old to be commented.

This is saddening. Though unsurprising. It's something I've noticed stores do all the time, especially when they do "Storewide sales."

Just never thought Steam would join in on this. Going to have to pay extra attention to each game I'm interested in from now on.

There has been couple of years with almost the same games rolling in the main page and with the same prices. My first or second steam sale was somewhat exciting, now it pretty much just isn't and no wonder prices stay the same when they do this.

Steam is doing this for some time ,they hike the sale price of many games during sales to be able to trick people into thinking that the discount is huge.Steam sales were good 7 years ago now they are not and there are o5her sellers having better deals.

This kind of thing happens everywhere, there a big investigation into UK supermarkets for doing this exact thing and other tricks on 2 for 1 offers and all that.

It had to happen sooner or later, happens in most other businesses/industries in life, doesn't make anyone less annoyed about it though.
