Sony's PS Now UK Rental Prices are taking us for chumps

Dealspwn: UK Beta users of game streaming service, PS Now, have reported that the new prices that have been added to the service and they're pretty outrageous. How Sony expects to succeed with such high prices for rentals is beyond anyone's imagining, especially seeing as many titles can be bought outright physically for similar prices. There's a lot of work to be done, if PS Now wants to survive beyond launch.

Just a bit! The thing about this beta time is that we can make our voices heard on this - and Sony has time to correct it.

While they've stated that these prices aren't final, the fact they thought it was a good place to start speaks volumes IMO. Let just hope they are far more reasonable when it does actually go live.

£5 for two days playing time?!

You can get some of these titles for £5 in stores!

I could buy games on Steam for 5-10usd when they are on discounts. paying 5GBP for 2 days rental is outrages.

hkgamer1283d ago

blockbsters probably charge that price for 2 day game rental.

Which is why Blockbuster no longer exists.

Blockbuster response! :)

I think they overpriced it on purpose for the time being. Now they can see how much people want to spend that ammount of money and which people don't. They will lower the price eventually, its the same thing as with the ps3. They screw the early adaptors and later it will become cheaper.

If they started at a too low price point, they cant really raise the prices without pissing everyone off, so they start high priced and it will eventually get lower.

It's what they did with the US beta too. I looked at it yesterday and these prices are stupidly high, I would indeed then rather buy a physical copy for my PS3 instead.

I just don't get why they even need to test pricing in the UK after they already did so in the US? Prices in EU are already way higher anyways do they seriously expect us to pay more for rentals too?

Let's hope they learn from this in a big way.

What's with the disagrees? People didn't know they did the same thing in the US during their beta? And that if you're in the UK beta an email announcing the pricing change as of yesterday tells you they did it to get info about it and are expecting feedback.

It's weird that people tend to disagree with facts!

Sure, it's not set in stone that the pricing will be different, but since they are testing the pricing models and did the same thing in the US it tells me enough that it will be like in the US here as well!
