Microsoft made the right choice announcing new Xbox One model & price info today

All of this means Microsoft shouldn't waste any time on an announcement they can make today, so good job for doing so, Microsoft. Revealing a price drop isn't the type of announcement that lives on in E3 infamy, it's the new game announcements and demos.

Exactly. Now that they've got this out the way, they can focus on the more important stuff...GAMES.

Rimeskeem1202d ago (Edited 1202d ago )

There seems to be details of everything non-gaming specific coming from a lot of sides before E3. Can't wait to see. Sad that QB won't be there.

GenuineGamer1201d ago

@Rimeskeem

I think QB will be at gamescom. MS have stated they are saving some games for that show, plus its coming out early next year so i would be very surprised if it wasn't at gamescom tbh

700p1202d ago

Microsoft already making some smart moves before e3. I love it.

RocketScienceLvlStuf1202d ago (Edited 1202d ago )

They have only announced it early because they know the PS4 has a 1TB model coming. They are hoping they will get some sales before it is announced.

When the PS4 1TB model comes, rest assured it will vastly outsell any xbone equivalent and Microsoft know this.

MasterCornholio1201d ago (Edited 1201d ago )

In my opinion I believe that any PS4 model will vastly outsell any XB1 model.

But that's just my opinion.

Anyways isn't your comment a bit off topic here?

blackout1201d ago

This has been the buzz for a while now. Sony's news just came out. Now you will here Sony talk about there's at e3, eating up 10 to 15min of none gaming talk. Microsoft did the right thing. So ready for E3.

marlinfan101201d ago

They announced the kinectless xbox less than a month before e3 last year also. I think it's more logical they don't want to waste time with it during their conference.

RomanPSX1201d ago

Now if the ps4 release the 1tb at same $400 price will affect xbox, but I dought it cause there many 500gb still on stores. On topic its great that ms unveiled the console now instead of waisting time on e3.

nitus101201d ago (Edited 1201d ago )

Well in OEM quantities the difference between 500GB and 1TB 2.5" disk drives is not that much more, so even if the 1TB PS4 is say $10 to $50 more I think that would be the more preferred. Of course a 7200rpm drive which is only a few extra dollars would be more preferable since you would get almost a 20% improvement in HDD performance.

Still IMHO a 2.5" 7200rpm HDD PS4 would be an awesome buy especially if the price is comparable to the original PS54 with it's 2.5" 5400 rpm 500GB HDD.

BTW. Before someone pipes up and says that a 1TB Solid State Dick drive is better. In answer. "Yes is is but the price is actually more than a PS4".

TheXgamerLive1201d ago

Hahaha OK prime example of the insecured scared envious SONY fan. But but but they only did this. BC of Sony but but but. DUDE! Move along little mind.

Um I doubt it would have took them a long time to announce this at a press event.

But that's just my opinion.

I was really expecting a slim xb1...that would have made me buy one.

The only thing that can make me buy an xb1 now is a new Banjo or Lost Oddesy 3

NobleTeam3601201d ago

So a slim Xbox one won't make you want to buy one anymore?

TKCMuzzer1201d ago

Actually, they could have put this towards the end of their show, they could have said something like 'and to make sure all the newcomers have enough storage for all these great games, were releasing a 1TB Xbox One', it would not have been ground breaking but it would have been a nice link to push the new SKU.

It lacks the 4K chip for 4K Netflix. And it should have the new Ultra HD Blu-ray drive.

Point being. A new XBO is coming besides this sooner then later.

yarbie10001202d ago (Edited 1202d ago )

XBO doesn't need a new chip for 4K. MS has already said 4K is coming http://www.polygon.com/2013...

There is a reason the box came with a 4K ready cable...

As far as the article, I agree its best to announce the price drop now. That means they have a show packed full of content for people who already own a XBO. Games & features is what I wanna hear about. Not a price drop.

_LarZen_1202d ago (Edited 1202d ago )

Quoted from Forbes.

"First and foremost a chip for decoding the HEVC 4K UHD streaming format employed by both Netflix and Amazon. Also likely needed, as pointed out after my initial publication of this article by some readers, would be a chipset capable of handling the HDCP 2.2 copy protection protocols required for playback of many 4K video sources.

It would further be sensible for both consoles to upgrade their HDMI ports from 1.4 versions (which can only carry 4K at 30fps) to 2.0 versions which can take 4K at 60fps."

So no...your XBO will not be able to deliver 4K from Netflix. Or any other big streaming provider. Or via Blu-ray as you will need the new Ultra HD Blu-ray drive.

Here is one source of many.. http://www.forbes.com/sites...

But don't sweat. You are not alone in thinking this...I'm just glad to enlighten some of you.

EDIT: It don't matter with dual layer Blu-ray for 4K. The new standard have been decided just weeks ago and it's called Ultra HD Blu-ray. You will need a new optical drive. Please..do some research before disagreeing or commenting :)

EDIT: Facts are presented and even then people are clicking disagree. It wont change fact people...

EDIT: For more sources besides Forbes. Google it...plenty of articles.

EDIT: whitesoxfalife1976, you my friend have allot of reading to do.

BVFTW1202d ago

Oh, come on LarZen! Do you really think neither Microsoft or Sony can't write a software solution for those codecs on that chip, is just video streaming and security measures, those decoding chips are needed for setup boxes and sticks but the consoles have more than enough power for the task, but just on 30 fps thanks to HDMI 1.4.

n4rc1201d ago

Umm wasn't hevc support just added to the preview program?

TheCommentator1201d ago (Edited 1201d ago )

Thank you, narc, for pointing that out. People like Larzen using dated material just don't get it. 4k on Bluray needs a new drive but everything else will be available in 4k on XB1 with HEVC. Matter of fact, the HDMI 2.0 standard uses the same cable/connection to the hardware as 1.4 does. The XB1 has more than enough bandwidth in its video decoders to do 4k/60 with a firmware update to 2.0.

dreadz741202d ago (Edited 1202d ago )

also XB1 already can read dual layer 50 gp blurays so it can play 4k blurays actually so can PS4 they just need fw upgrade to push the software. E3 we will hear more . XB1 is essentially a PC every PC can play 4k videos with a dedicated video card. Man people are so uneducated when it comes to tech even publications forbe is no tech site BTW they go with what they are told..

LexHazard791202d ago

well do any of the other console have this Ultra HD drive? Ok then

SpaceRanger1202d ago (Edited 1202d ago )

They were already planning on focusing on games. How does this mean that they did it purposely to "focus more" on games? This announcement is just one less announcement that was leaked early. They're not just going to come up with a new game or CGI trailer to show in place of that announcement.

The spin on this is just ridiculous. Is it that hard for people to admit that it was reactionary to the rumor the same way the controller announcement was reactionary. The Fallout devs did the same thing when the rumor started gaining traction.

There really is no ulterior motive to why MS did this. Just a bunch of speculation that people are actually taking as fact and will be saying as fact for the week to come (the first few comments above are a good example ^^^).

FallenAngel19841202d ago

Nintendo has a lot of nerve not announcing a new model and price for Wii U when its been out longer

KwietStorm1201d ago

Nerve? Do you think they are obligated to do so?

FallenAngel19841201d ago

They should if they want their console to be more competitive and relative

Satyre281202d ago

Really seems like MS has a ton of stuff to show by this and even judging by what Phil Spencer has tweeted about having as much new content as Gamescom as well. Sounds like X1 owners are gonna be in for an amazing treat.
