Has CD Projekt Stolen BioWare’s RPG Crown?

CGM Writes: "May is typically a slow month of the year for gamers, but this time around, RPG fans got major, potential game of the year vacation time in “The Continent” and the world of The Witcher III. It’s released to rave reviews across the board, and even I myself said that it sets new standards for the treatment of optional content and side-quests in these big, meaty, open world RPGs. However, for every yin, there is a yang, and in this case, the dark side of all this enthusiastic praise for CD Projekt is the scorn now being heaped upon BioWare."

Just comparing The Witcher 3 and DA: I, I'd say yes. I played a shit ton of both and W3 just hooked me much more than Inquistion. In W3 the characters felt more real, the world is more fun to explore, the combat is a lot more fun and I think the story is just more interesting.

Not saying that DA:I is a bad game, but I think W3 is just one kick ass title.

Well Bioware in my opinion has been lately on a constant low, last RPG game made by them I truly enjoyed was Dragon Age Origins (no, I don't consider ME2 and 3 RPG games, they're more like action-games with nice dialogues).

In terms of RPG games, CDPR has them beaten hands down.

Mass Effect Trilogy are all RPG's opinion or not

Very well said RDR,

Having played both, Witcher 3's story is just better. DAI is a great game in its own right, but W3 just has me coming back to see what's next. One of the best RPG's I have played imo (and I've played a ton over my 43 yrs).

Its like this, No they have nt stolen Bethesda Games studios rpg crown, Fallout3, oblivion, and skyrim.

Lighter91199d ago

They're both fun in their own right. There's an insane amount of dialogue in DA though. I thought Bethesda had the crown though.

Hail Bethesda. I still play Skyrim to this day. Heavily modded of course.

AnotherProGamer1199d ago

their RPGs are very shallow after Morrowind, like Skyrim with forgettable story and characters, bland and unsatisfying combat, linear and repetitive dungeons, and boring quests that were just mostly draugr dungeons

Loved DA:I but Witcher 3 wins hands down in my opinion. DA:I combat I found a little boring, whereas I love it in the Witcher 3. Also I feel more of a need to get into Alchemy/Gear searching in Witcher 3, plus the quests are miles deeper, with the secondary quests being so much better in W3.

Its really like has cd projekt taken bethesda's western rpg crown?

Why does there need to be such thing as a "crown?" Or a single best dev? Variety is the spice of life! Choosing between CD Projekt Red, Bethesda, and BioWare as my favorite RPG dev is too much of a headache to try and figure out, I love them all. Can't they just all get "crowns?" lol

starchild1199d ago

No, that's too reasonable.

Seriously though, it's normal for people to have their favorites, but most of us would agree that it's good to be able to enjoy a variety of different games.

kraenk121199d ago

Seeing as Bioware has pretty much lost it the last 5 years it#s possible they learn a thing or two from their former pupils.

Whatchu talkin' bout, Willis? DAI was great. Vastly improved from DA2, at least. Maybe not quite up there with DAO IMO, but close. I would still consider DAO to this day one of my favorite games of all-time though, so topping that is a lofty task.

I would keep a close on ME4 too. Just because a lot of people were fussy over ME3 doesn't mean ME4 has no potential. Have a little faith. BioWare's track record (beyond their latest couple of releases) speaks for itself!
