Welcome to the latest edition of the ‘PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U Japan’ article. This series will be comparing monthly and lifetime sales of the 8th generation of home consoles - the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U.
Japan is keeping the Vita and Wii U alive
Japanese gamers have a good taste in gaming, Japanese games are my favorites.
All the call of duty dudebro's disagreed to your opinion lol.
Scalebound needs to be 10 times better than FF14 Xenoblade X combined to attract Japanese gamers. Good Luck Platinum Games.
Considering the shape of gaming in japan, it might be better to not try and make this a who has the bigger dick east or west. Japan needs to grow it's industry, by selling to the west and the rest of the world. Funny the same people that deride people that enjoy western games as cod dudebros are likely the same kind of people. That call gamers that enjoy Japanese games/anime/culture weeboo's or make comments like svinya's down below. I think the dudebro comment is elitist and annoying, and I haven't played a cod game since world at war came out. But I still enjoy Japanese games, so I guess that makes me a dudebro. How is your snobbery or elitism any better than those cod dudebros Hoffmann?
Anybody got a defibrillator or epinephrine? One of them flat-lined.
Japan kept the GameCube to end only 3 million behind of Xbox.
Damn the Xbox One is dead in Japan. It is literally is a flat line.
It's maintaining it's low profile by flying under the radar. i kid...i kid
They have a very different game culture. Im sure there is no Japanese who interest with Halo , Gears .. They are playing games i didnt even hear their name.
That's like saying all Japanese people like the same thing. I'm sure that's not the case, everyone has opinions and likes / dislikes. Western games don't sell nearly as much in Japan as they do in NA / EU but they do sell.
I'd be interested to see how Gears of War would sell in Japan if released on the PS4. I'm guessing it would do quite well.
Kurisu, of course everyone has opinions but im talking general situation in Japan. Look at the list. Best seller games in Europe/US is Gta 5 and Cod Aw isnt. Look where they are . Im trying to saying that. They have different game culture. http://www.neogaf.com/forum...
at the end of this gen PS4:X1 ratio in Japan will be like 50:1
You're being kind, I take it.
Bubble for funny...and observant. "literally is a flat line"
From my knowledge of the medical field... The doctor would have called it by now after looking at one of these lines. Especially in the monthly sales chart. On topic: Their culture as a whole is what drives the gaming community over there. And I mean that in the best way possible. They have great taste in what they play. They are just no where near as fond of FPS/TPS compared to America and Europe.
Interesting observation: I know that most of us take VG Chartz numbers with a grain of salt... here is another reason to do so... I started noticing that their weekly numbers were running about a month behind and now about 2 months behind (for instance, only up to April 4th as of today). I think that this long lag is giving them the ability to adjust when NPD is released. They used to adjust after the fact, but I think that their numbers were so off, they needed to do something to not lose whatever small shred of legitimacy they had. Anyone agree? Or am I looking at it the wrong way?
Fortunately there is nothing to worry about because Japan has multiple weekly sources. They don't have to guess anything... because everyone has access to it. Its public info via Media Create and Famitsu and Dengeki. VGChartz can get there numbers from them (as we all do) and there is nothing to speculate.
Right... That's why I only called out NPD
You assume they care about legitimacy, or that they had any in the first place. Otherwise, I'd say it's a reasonable assumption. Another reason might be so fan boys have the time to say that it's likely different now(2-3 weeks later) due to --insert reason here--. VGChartz has always been an Xbox fan boy circle jerk, so there is really no reason for them to try and guess when they can just wait on official numbers, since they know their guess work will have much more scrutiny now that they've been proven wrong time and time again.
zomegawd! xbox is sew lame in Japan, bruh.
Regardless, Japan's just not into consoles anymore. It's handhelds that are hot there. More interesting that the Vita is still holding its own there in spite of the 3DS's sales juggernaut.
I wonder if PS4 can reach PS3's 10 million goal in Japan.
I don't see that happening. Not unless Japan starts seriously buying consoles again.
Possible, it's about a quarter of the way there after less than 2 years. There's probably another 4-5 years left in this gen.
Wii U and Vita are such fantastic damn consoles, a shame they didn't sell more. It's also the consumers' faults rather than all Sony/Nintendo's blame. More people should give these a chance, they have so many memorable games. Gravity Rush on Vita still has my honor for my favorite Vita game. I like playing 3D World, Treasure Tracker, even Mario Party 10 offline. It's my tastes and preferences and I am making the best out of what I own.
Japan has changed big time. They used to hate exported things and now everyone rocks an iPhone. They used to be the gaming capital not anymore. They used to be the Asia's computer masters and now south Korea is how times have changed.
25% (roughly) of the wiiu total sales are from japan
