Konami is leaving long-time fans baffled and angry with its actions regarding Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid V, and Silent Hills. What exactly is their strategy?
Being a complete douche bags
It's not all of Konami. Only certain people are in a position of power to either allow or not allow certain things to happen. Only like 3-4 people have any say in that company. The problem is when those people become delusional, the only way to right the ship is to mutiny from within. Doing so, would cost gamers not getting to play MGS5 though and Kojima would rather the fans get a game. Konami knows this and is using it as leverage. Kind of a " haha we can F you over and there is nothing you can do about it".... That is the type of thing a child does, but that is usually the mentality of the douche's running a lot of these big companies now a days. Somebody at Konami is really into themselves.
wait... didn't don matrick leave zynga recently??? maybe he went to work for konami and we didn't get the memo.
They are simply digging their own grave within the Gaming Market.
Actually. creating mobile games and apps will probably make them more successful within the gaming industry. Profit wise anyways. Their first priority as with all devs and publishers is not the false notion of loyalty to gamers. its profits to keep the company going.
The true gaming market ;)
the lolz, but the reality is...its true. I'm still not sure where these stupid articles are coming from. Konami has been pretty upfront with not wanting to be in console gaming. What are they doing? Um....leaving console gaming. Its not a mistake, they didn't just mess up, its pretty clear this was deliberately done as they are moving from console to mobile. Though many gamers believe this is dumb...consider from Konami's prospective. They are losing money on lots of those big releases. As a gamer, I clearly want the best content, but if I was in business (which I am lolz) I would be seeking to get a solid return. MGS is great series, but we all know that if it had a yearly release, less money put on actual quality engines but on a outsourced engine, they would not only save money, they would make money year over year. Not saying thats what I want, merely that its clear it would likely make more money then how they've been going currently with the MGS IP. ie MGS4.....6 million sales or so...AC Unity and Rouge did like 10 million units. PURELY based on business. Would you want to do 5 to 6 million EVERY YEAR or 6 million.....every 6 years? I mean...its pretty clear they know they could have been in a better position to make more. They don't want to keep spending on deep developments for small profit. I got to agree with Konami on this one. As a gamer of course I want MGS of the highest quality, but thats the thing..."As a gamer". If I owned them, I wouldn't actually run the company the way they were, I would have put that series yearly a long time ago lol. Snake, then Raiden, Snake, Raiden...SUNNY......then Old Snake, then Raiden, then old Sunny, Solidus Prequel with little Raiden, Old Snake again, then Cyborg Sunny! lol
They already cleared this up... They are moving their focus from AAA releases, to more profitable mobile titles. They are a business. Their objective/mission is to earn revenues. And on the up side, mobile gamers are a lot less likely to complain about annoying stuff like "graphic downgrades" (based on assumptions stemmed from outdated pre-alpha footage), fps variance between platforms, and 10 rows of pixels. TLDR: less effort/costs, more money, and bonus: no whiny/toxic fans to put with.
Reorganization for the next Suikoden game. Will look better than Final Fantasy XV and will play better than Skyrim.
look like a leprechaun to me. ya'll see the leprechaun say heeeeey
Where da gold at??? I want da gold!
Contra HD Remaster, please
im all for the ps2 generation and the past being remastered. last gen games being redone is silly
We already know, they are leaving the gaming industry to work on cell phone apps. No problem with me after all they did as long as they sell off Castlevania, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear....also Zone of the Enders if they own those rights.
They r a Japanese gaming company going mobile. Makes sense considering that the Japanese gaming market is starting to trend toward mobile gaming and away from consoles. Expect more Japanese devs to start down this path
When it comes to including elements in games to appease special interest groups, core gamers generally want the game companies disregard the special interests and "make what they want to make", "follow their own vision", "don't cater to groups that are less profitable". Well, here they are, not listening to us demanding gamers, making what they want to make, following their own vision, going after the market they feel is most profitable.
Though that the issue is that Kojima owns the Fox engine, so that when he got canned the engine went with him? There's also the consideration that as a dev, Kojima was demanding more and more resources, driving up expenses, for less results and Konami just had to put their foot down. Now they have to deal with the fallout.
If they're really retreating from AAA development I wonder if they'll sit on all their ip and disallow it's use indefinitely, or be open to third parties using their brands.. Considering their crappy choices when they've theoretically been in control of their ips, maybe they'd get better. Or much worse.
And what old IPs have they worked on or tried to revive recently? Which Kojima wasn't involved in that is.
Crappy choices when in control of their ips: Lords Of Shadow 2, Silent Hill Book of Memories, arguably Silent hill homecoming & downpour.. (though they were all handled by external devs, Konami have to take responsibility) - there are devs who'd be much more up to the task than the people they let do those entries, clearly.
Hm, doesn't the recent canceled project remove Silent Hill because of its direct Kojima connection? So Lords of Shadow, or Shadow of the Collossus, it is then...
I am pretty sure at this point they want out of console gaming unlike what they claim and that they wanna burn all bridges doing it.
