WhatIfGaming's Overall Best Of E3 Awards 2008

WhatIfGaming writes:

"

Another year and another awards season. E3 was packed with exciting memories you have all seen (some still to be posted), and rooms filled with the hottest and most anticipated titles to date. It was certainly a great time, and now that time is over. It's time to look forward, ahead to newer and better releases, and to honor a few titles in this year's WhatIfGaming's Best Of E3 Awards 2008.

Criteria: The Best of E3 Awards, a subcategory for the WhatIfGaming Prizes, are given solely to those video games that demonstrate a pure excellence in the field for which they are not only nominated but also chosen. These awards only apply to playable games at E3 given a few exceptional categories.

Nomination & Selection Process: Compared with other site awards, the WhatIfGaming Prize nomination and selection process is long and extremely rigorous. This is the sole reason why WhatIfGaming Prizes have grown in importance over the years to become the most important prizes in their field. Forms, which amount to a personal and exclusive invitation, are sent to about over 1,000 selected individuals to invite them to submit nominations months in advance from the latest builds per video game. Self-nominations are disqualified. For WhatIfGaming Prizes, inquiries are sent to such people as developers, industry experts, analysts, freelance journalists among others. After our deadline passes, the nominations are chosen by permanent committee of 5 selected individuals and only the final stage of nominees remain per category. From all of these, a winner is chosen.

The names of the nominees are not publicly announced, and neither are they told that they have been considered for the WhatIfGaming Prize. Some are announced publicly by practice. Nomination records are revealed approximately 2 years after each respective award year.

I think they just took the cake for best awards ever

I was surprised to find myself not very much angered at all while reading this list. Although I did find it curious that Gears of War 2 wasn't mentioned a single time (not even for the specific category of Best Third-Person Shooter?) ... I'm glad to see them giving tons of props to Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet, though. Both of those games are at the very top of my radar. I'm also shocked they didn't mention InFAMOUS at all. And now I can't wait to hear more about Heavy Rain!

Fallout 3 nominated for best action game!? WTF is is a RPG doing there?

Tinman13566d ago

It's a RPG, but it def has Action elements to it.

RandalCG3566d ago

Yeah. Fallout 3 is definitely action in some respects. Action and RPG, how can we say it isn't. I mean it's post apocalyptic, it has sudden bouts of spurt moments, it's definitely action. And was nominated as such

MK_Red3566d ago

I see but the even me, the huge Fallout fanboy didn't like the action's quality. It wasn't really there IMO. Still glad to see it win RPG and be the runner up for GOTS.

I think they should have added MotorStorm 2 as a graphics nom.

Tinman13566d ago

1,000 people initial, then a committee of 5. Def imo. but if it was months in advance why is it E3? Then again I just read they did it with latest builds and I can understand the time restrictions required months in advance analysis.

Will def be checking these out again over the years. Sucks their 2003 awards database was slated clean on server change. I loved those best before relaunch

The list is crap. And these awards hold nothing to my Grammy.

This is from whatifgaming, and I summarized most of their 12+ pages of stuff for you. Go make a new CD phil:

"I can feel jealousy, coming in the air tonight"....lol

The game had to be PLAYABLE at E3 to be nominated for this list.

And within a day, the xbot army is in damage control mode.

Hahaha, I love it. They got owned.

LBP is a PS3 exclusive pushing gaming 2.0
Where else but on PS3. Where else. Another Triple A exclusive.

Glad to see u love Fallout too. I'm a major fanboy myself. I actually been following WiG for years and I believe as they wrote not all Nominees are usually disclosed. Some are.

So for the ones that say None, I'm sure there's no disclosure. Guess we have to wait 2 years and see m8 :)!

Cheers

Hey, glad to see another Fallout fan. I'm a huge fanboy in Fallout business and was among those that hated Fallout 3 when it was first announced seeing that it lost the isometric view and most of turn based combat but with Black Isle gone, a true Fallout 3 like original 2 can never exist so I looked at Fallout 3 as a spin-off more than a true sequel and the great E3 showing made me fall in love with the game even more.

I hadn't checked WiG much but overall, their choices and awards are pretty good. I think Mirror's Edge deserved more though.

Cheers.
