Batman: Arkham Knight dev says Batmobile wouldn't be possible without data streaming

MMGN writes: In promoting its highly anticipated new game Batman: Arkham Knight, developer Rocksteady hasn't held back with the buzz talk: "This wouldn't have been possible on last gen," they say.

Well, cool, but what the hell does that even mean? Why wouldn't it be possible? Can you show us, please?

It could be done, the city and post process effects would just have to be toned down.

Bimkoblerutso928d ago

So that means...it could not have been done last gen, doesn't it?

GreetingsfromCanada928d ago

It could, It just wouldn't look that great.

mkis007927d ago

Exactly..the vision could not have been achieved.

Data streaming is how opoen world loads constantly without loading screens. Every open world game had that. The problem was how efficiently and quickly it's done. Data streaming is nothing new.

Ghost_of_Tsushima928d ago (Edited 928d ago )

They talk about Microsoft cloud and how data streaming make driving the Batmobile very fast through the highly detailed city possible.

So what are they saying? They're using the cloud? How that working on PS4?

madmonkey01928d ago

cloud is just a buzzword for remote servers, play station can do that too

jetlian928d ago

They may not need the cloud on ps4. Anyway streaming was in a lot of 360/ps3 games, im not bying it

ThanatosDMC928d ago

Confusing. So if your internet is down the game wont load properly or are they just speaking out of their asses or are they talking about loading the gameworld piece by piece like in all open world games?

Volkama928d ago (Edited 928d ago )

No, he's talking about streaming from the hard drive. That wasn't possible on last gen because there was a 360 SKU that didn't have a hard drive at all, and many 360s and PS3s with less than 20GB available so games had to be designed to be played off a disc.

The article is shamefully stupid, unfortunately.

Ghost_of_Tsushima928d ago (Edited 928d ago )

So they're talking about streaming from the hard drive? Why did they even mention Microsoft cloud in the article then?

This is a horribly written article.

Volkama928d ago (Edited 928d ago )

Honestly with the state of gaming journalism today, it is always worth reading into what is actually directly quoted and interpreting it yourself. Don't rely on or trust the commentary that goes with it.

This article is obviously quite an extreme example of why that is necessary, but the same nonsense applies elsewhere. Many gaming sites take it upon themselves to misinterpret or sensationalise the intent of what a developer says on a regular basis.

johndoe11211928d ago (Edited 928d ago )

WTH??????? How could the dev be talking about one thing and the author write something completely different and misleading???? Are you sure he was talking about the harddrive? I'm not calling you a liar but if you are right that site will be added to my browser block list. That would be the ultimate in shoddy and lazy journalism. Can you say where you got your info from?

dragonaught007928d ago (Edited 928d ago )

Its funny tho sony been using more cloud then Microsoft with ps now especially going to be using it more now that they bought onlive dont get me wrong im on board with this idea but if not everyone has the constant internet then I can see how they will struggle

looking forward to this game.

Priestwithgun928d ago

So do you require internet to play this game? Article is so vague

Volkama928d ago

Article is not vague, it's dumb. The dev was talking about streaming data off a hard drive.

Arkham Knight will work on submarines.

_-EDMIX-_928d ago

...this article needs to be taken down as its misrepresenting what the team is saying. Never do they say a word about "cloud" or "internet" or "server" in fact....they are not talking about "Streaming" from one source to another. They are talking about the streaming of data from disk to now off the drive.

http://mmgn.com/ps4/article...

....I see nothing regarding cloud, internet etc. The streaming of data being referred to is based off of the data playing off of the drive vs off of the disk.

bixxel927d ago (Edited 927d ago )

Why is everyone treating data streaming as if it's something new? Associating it with cloud, internet and other irrelevant stuffs?

_-EDMIX-_926d ago

lol, because they hear "stream" and think 1 thing! Its just a garbage article that is trying to grasp at straws and assume, even filling in junk the developer never states.

Caters to the lowest.
