I was really surprised by the 'Thank you' note. It broght back memories of pouring over game manuals back in the day, and looking through the game artwork. Why don't we get that anymore anyway?

FarEastOrient3257d ago

Bonus points for including a OS on disc and the Thank You note.

RocketScienceLvlStuf3257d ago

The thank you note was awesome. First time I have seen something like that

Mariusmssj3257d ago

It's awesome but that said Witcher 2 did have a better standard edition :) https://img217.imageshack.u...

FullmetalRoyale3257d ago

Yeah, that's a classy move. They are showing a lot of respect for their audience. I for one am grateful that I was able to finally give them some money, as they've had my respect for a while.

solid_snake36563257d ago

i love what kojima does with mgs manuals, theirs usually a comic inside.

solid_snake36563257d ago

Now i kinda wish i didnt buy the digital version

Xer0_SiN3257d ago

i agree. the standard edition, the one which i purchased was chocked full of goodies. kinda reminded me when i bought final fantasy for the nes all those years ago lol.

Gwiz3257d ago

Because it's all about maximizing profits in a declining industry, well software wise that is.

SharnOfTheDEAD3257d ago

These days when you buy a AAA game there's just a leaflet telling you to buy the season pass!

ChronoJoe3257d ago

Somewhat unrelated, but something that bugged me with the Witcher, is how the manual does not fit in the box. Why is that? At least for my copy, it came inside the cardboard sleeve, and does not fit with the note and other in-box content.

I hope other publishers will follow this example.

UltraNova3257d ago

Yeah Ubi, EA, Activision and Square Enix are already jealous of CDPR's stance with gamers and have ordered all games going forward to have free season passes.

No not really...

Devs like CDPR are a dying breed, enjoy/support them while they're still around.

NeonEnigma3257d ago (Edited 3257d ago )

I could tell that it was loaded with goodies just by the weight of the case! It was so refreshing to open a game up and have it be filled with content (on disc and off), rather than being asked to purchase more.

showtimefolks3257d ago

But why would developers or publishers do that when they can cut content from main game only to sell it later as dlc expansion packs

Why would they change when we have a lot of gamers defend these bad practices

Why would they change when there are $40 to $50 season passes. Looking at you forza 5 (which launched with less cars, tracks and over content than forza 4)

Until we as gamers change don't expect anything to change

And now so many are excited about next star wars yet EA won't even include all the modes and content that was available on past star wars games. But guess what they expect it to sell 10 million without a single player story and a lot less content, but don't worry it will have a season pass too

CD PROJECT RED ARE INDEPENDENT
THEY OWN THE IP FOR WITCHER
THEY OWN CYBERPUNK 2077

THEY CONTROL THEIR OWN DESTINY

But than we have bungie who also own destiny IP yet they took out content from the main game to late sell as dlc. This is a proven fact by those play testers who have said when they played it earlier it had a much more content

But guess what we will get dlc and millions of gamers will play it and defend it even though it didn't deliver on many aspects that it was advertised to be

What CD project red are doing is a dying breed kind of thing. Don't get use to it. now a days buy the game and pay 40 for season pass before the game comes out without knowing what content we will actually get. But don't worry trust us we will deliver but do give us 100 dollars up front
-----''-------

And I know this won't be a popular thing to say but it's time to raise the price of AAA games to over 70 maybe 75. The development cost has gone way up and developers/publishers are and will try their best to get every cent back

Game prices have stayed the same for a long time. No matter how much you hate this thought but it's time to raise the prices, but only if it means less of content cut from main game to sell as dlc

No matter what you say it's a proven fact that game prices need to go up to cover the costs , now whether it happens or not we will see. But if games remain at 60 than expect 40 to 50 dollars of season pass and a lot of content cut from games to later sell as dlc

ninsigma3257d ago

The price of games are always increasing. Last gen they were 60 euro. this gen they started at 70 and are now even hitting 75. So the prices are increasing and so are season passes. So basically all round getting screwed.

I think the standard package for the witcher 3 was so good because it's the last game. I wouldn't expect them to do that for cyberpunk. they've reached the end of a journey and wanted to give something back to the fans. I highly doubt it will happen again.

Hold_It3257d ago

It's not the last game. It's the last game for Geralt.

lovethenoob3257d ago

This was a huge reason why I bought the game in the first place because truth be told I had no interest to purchase it until I found out all the goodies in it. I hope this game sells well and I hope this helps empower us, the consumer.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave19d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan19d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

MP games need micros to keep the lights on. Path of Exile is a good game with micros. It can be done as long is the game is not the scheme itself.

CrimsonWing6924d ago (Edited 24d ago )

You end up paying more than $70 in micros for a game specifically designed around them and that’s not a “scheme” by design?

I’ve played plenty of great MP games that didn’t have micros. I love how at one point we were like micros bad, GaaS bad, and now we’re like, well GaaS is MP so it’s ok.

anast23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Path is a free game. How else are they supposed to keep the servers on? You don't need up spending more . I've been playing the game since the beginning and I've spent less than $20.

Destiny on the other hand....

An MP game embedded in a SP game shouldn't have them.

I know you understand this. I have to be optimistic here.

CrimsonWing6923d ago

@anast

I’d argue “free to play” are more egregious than just a traditional pay to play game. You end up spending far more on a game than just $70 and I think the “free” games are sneaky by design to make a consumer think “well, it’s free, let me dump money into it.” I mean, they’re specifically designed to make you continuously put money into them. I heard with Path of Exile you hit a point where the grind is obnoxious without buying micros.

lucian22924d ago

Odd, I remember micro transactions for Witcher 3

CrimsonWing6923d ago

What micro-transactions do you remember being in Witcher 3?

FinalFantasyFanatic23d ago

I agree, I never pay for microtransactions, and in the few cases where I have, I've felt dirty afterwards, especially when older games used to give you so much content for free (like cosmetics).
