A look at the history behind Konami's move towards a mobile-centric future.
Just like how I lost respect for Akiba once the barrel was taken off him. Oh Konami how you decided to abandon your fans and concentrate on mobile gaming. Oh wait a second they were never fans of you in the first place. They were Kojimas fans and you had to axe him. How dare you. :I
"Oh wait a second they were never fans of you in the first place. They were Kojimas fans and you had to axe him." Pretty much. Kojima was single handily floating that company's console business with his games. Yeah they had some other games besides Kojima's Metal Gear (DDR, Beatmania, Silent Hill, etc.), but Kojima's games, while expensive productions, were all commercial successes (even more so over a long run with additional sales and remasters). Consider this, the last major games released by Konami were MGSV:GZ, PES'15, and Castlevania. This coming from a company that released dozens of games a year not more than 1-2 console generations back.
As you say it goes both ways, Konami was paying the bills if they weren't, we simply wouldn't have those games. It's hard to see who will in the future..
Haha I laugh at ppl saying konami is dead to them now silly ppl they've been dead to me since they killed suikoden!!!!!! /salty
Konami may be dead to us but in reality they will probably make a lot of money working on their mobile and casino games. With $70 AAA games coming with day-one DLC and $40 season passes almost by default, it's becoming clearer and clearer that AAA games are heading for a crash. They just aren't profitable enough compared to mobile games
I just wanted a Contra HD collection...Contra 1, Super C, Contra 3, Hard Corps, and Shattered Soldier would have been great as XBLA downloads or a collection on a disc. Instead we got some ancient arcade ports and a nice Uprising game but the load times in that game made me not bother. It takes nearly a minute to load the first level! Oh well, guess that's what emulators are for...but I would have paid good money for the original contra with some SNES/Genesis graphic updates.
"Perhaps we'll see a new Suikoden or Vandal Hearts, Both Of Which Could work as mobile titles." As a huge fan of both series': not interested.
all I know is that MGS on mobiles sounds like the worst idea ever
ok ok we get it konami is poof, no need to make countless of pointless articles stating the oversaid, your beating a dead horse for hits, let it go, its over, shhhh.
Kojima was Konami, without Kojima pumping out amazingly directed video games, Konami are royally screwed. I wish Kojima could leave Konami and take his beloved franchise with him and continue to make the games that he wants. It wont be hard for Kojima to find a new home with a new studio that wants him.
No one would be talking about this if the ruse master wasn't fired.
Konami was one of my favorite gaming companies not so long ago. Sad to see even the great giants fall down on their luck. Hopefully they'll right this ship someday. Best of luck to them.
Konami is one of the most influential companies in the gaming industry and many of us grew up with beautiful memories on some of their biggest titles of all time. naturally a true gamer would feel sad to see this happen no matter what.
I always had a feeling Konami wasn't doing great. I rarely saw a ton of games from them these past few years and I just figured they were on the decline. Now it's clear they're done in the console market. Sad!
Decline of a giant? I mean seriously, they have been declining for the last decade. Are people seriously realizing this now?
Its no different than the morons that don't get that Kojima was NOT Konami, they had tons of great IPs before MGS ever existed... And Konami isnt going anywhere, they are tired of losing money in the console gaming market so elementary level business common sense would tell you to focus on things that make the company profits...They will continue to be just fine with Mobile, casinos and hotels... The entire purpose of business is to make profits not win hearts, minds and fans
I agree. It's a shame to see them not focus on consoles but at the same time they weren't really doing that to begin with.
After MGS5 there´s only regret... Konami will eventually crumble the greed for money is far too strong.
